Ashwin did a good job as a captain - KL Rahul

Kings XI Punjab had an odd-even season of Indian premier league. They started the season with a bang and won 5 out of first 7 matches. But the later half of the season didn't go in their way as they could manage to win only 1 out of next 7 matches. And resulted in they failed to make it to the playoffs.

Lack of consistency and too much dependency on KL Rahul and Chris Gayle also hurt KXIP. Apart from this, many questions were raised on Ashwin's captaincy that he did allow too many changes in playing XI which was not required at that point. However, KL Rahul think completely opposite this.

"Obviously, it was a bit up and down because of the results but, we had a good time together. The first half was obviously a great way to start the tournament. And unfortunate for us and the captain that the second half did not go our way. But, yeah it was a great learning and I am sure it was a great experience for him (Ashwin) as a captain," Rahul told kxip.in.

"Handling a young team is never easy, but, I think he did a great job. He's given a lot of feedback to the players, what he thinks about where they can improve so these boys will definitely come back stronger, and his leadership would have helped a lot of players, a lot of bowlers, especially," the dashing opener said.

KL Rahul was among the top run-getters in this IPL. With 659 runs in 14 matches in an impressive average of 54.91, was also the top scorer for the KXIP. He scored fastest fifty of this season (14-balls) against Delhi Daredevils and rated it his favourite moment of this IPL.

"I think it's the first game when I got a 14-ball 50. It was absolutely unbelievable! I completely outdid myself there.

"I still am amazed that I got the fastest fifty in the IPL ever and it kind of set the tone for the reason of the season as well. I am grateful for a lot of things this season. I have made great friends along the way, great memories, there has been a lot of learning," he said.

It was a shame that KXIP couldn't qualify for the playoffs despite they were on the top of the points table in first half. Also, it was the first instance when the purple cap holder team (Andrew Tye- 24 wickets) couldn't make it to the playoffs.

Sunil Gavaskar Slams Team India Management For Having 'Different Rules For Different Players'

Former captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the Indian team management for having "different rules for different players" citing the example of newcomer T Natarajan and skipper Virat Kohli.## This comes after skipper Virat Kohli returns to India after the first test as he was granted paternity leave by BCCI. However, rules became different for T Natarajan who went to Australia straight from the IPL 2020 in the UAE as a replacement for the injured Varun Chakravarthy.## Natarajan missed the birth of his first child last month as he was playing his part for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament, held in the UAE, and was then asked to board the flight to Australia for the T20Is. He was asked to remain in Australia as a net bowler for the Test team which means he will get to return home and see his daughter for the first time only after the four-match series ends on January 19.## Now, Gavaskar raised this point in his latest column for Sportstar.## "T Natarajan had become a father for the first time even as the IPL playoffs were going on. He was asked to stay on for the (Australia) Test series but not as a part of the team but as a net bowler. Imagine that. A match-winner, albeit in another format, being asked to be a net bowler. He will thus return home only after the series ends in the third week of January and get to see his daughter for the first time then. And there is the captain (Virat Kohli) going back after the first Test for the birth of his first child", Gavaskar wrote.## Also Read - 10 Teams IPL Gets Green Signal From BCCI In Annual General Meeting ## Gavaskar also wrote about ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin that the off-spinner has suffered within the Indian team because of his forthrightness and biased treatment by the team management.## "For far too long Ashwin has suffered not for his bowling ability of which only the churlish will have doubts but for his forthrightness and speaking his mind at meetings where most others just nod even if they don't agree", Gavaskar wrote. ## "Any other country would welcome a bowler who has more than 350 Test wickets and not to forget four-Test match centuries, too. However, if Ashwin doesn't take heaps of wickets in one game he is invariably sidelined for the next one. That does not happen to established batsmen though. Even if they fail in one game they get another chance and another and another but for Ashwin, the rules seem to be different," he added.## India suffered a massive defeat after the team unprecedentedly collapsed on just 36 runs in the second innings of the first test before Australia chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in the remaining three Tests in Kohli's absence. The second Test is scheduled in Melbourne from December 26 followed by matches in Sydney and Brisbane. ## Stay tuned...

"I Am Making It Official And Don't Blame Me Later On", Ravichandran Ashwin

During the second innings of Royal Challengers Bangalore against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020, on Monday (October 5), Ravichandran Ashwin left the entire cricketing fraternity bamboozled as this time he let go RCB's batsman Aaron Finch when the non-striker strayed outside the crease before the offie had released the ball. ## The incident turned out to be a quite strange one as Ashwin, playing for Kings XI Punjab, had Mankad Jos Buttler in the last year's IPL when Rajasthan Royals' star batman strayed outside the no-striker crease. Ashwin had later on clarified that he was within the rules and won't be afraid of doing it again.## The incident of letting go finch with a warning soon becomes a huge talking point on social media as fans started to discuss how Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting might have convinced Ashwin against Mankading the non-striker this season.## Taking to Twitter, Ashwin posted a matured tweet regarding the incident while also expressing how friendly are the terms between him, DC coach Ponting as well as RCB batsman Finch. "Let’s make it clear !! First and final warning for 2020. I am making it official and don’t blame me later on. @RickyPonting #runout #nonstriker @AaronFinch5 and I are good buddies btw. #IPL2020", he tweeted.## Let’s make it clear !! I had a madness of being ahead of Muralitharan one day: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the finest off-spinners India has ever produced. His willingness to learn different things and look ahead of the game makes him a stand out performer. However, things were not the same at the beginning of his career. He had to work hard in the first-class cricket before he was picked by MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League in 2008 that changed his life forever. ## However, before becoming MS Dhoni's go-to man, the captain cool had a little idea about the then Ravichandran Ashwin who was looking to make his impact on the big stars like Matthew Hayden or Michael Hussey and the captain MS Dhoni himself. ## Talking to Harsha Bhogle in the episode of Cricbuzz in Conversation, Ashwin said, "The first thought that entered my head was that I will show these people who I am."## "I don't know if it's bullish or if its arrogance. People can talk and relate it to so many things but that's just the way I was. If I bowled to Hayden in the nets, I wanted him to play me and go back and think, how am I going to play this guy in the nets the next day. That's the impact I wanted to leave. Nobody was giving me a chance in hell to say ok Ashwin will play alongside Muralitharan or ahead of Muralitharan," he added. ## At the time when the great Muthiah Muralitharan was at his peak and was the first choice spinner of CSK, Ashwin used to thought that he could go ahead of Murli, such madness he had back then. ## "Murali is one of the greatest bowlers to have walked this planet. I thought I'll get there ahead of him one day, it was a madness of my head. Surely it was also a madness of the process I'd put myself through."## It might have seemed madness at that time, but Ravichandran Ashwin has somehow proved himself by becoming one of the leading wicket-takers in the world today, also equalling Muralitharan's feat of becoming the joint-fastest to take 350 wickets in just 66 Tests. ## Stay tuned...

Virat Kohli credits MS Dhoni for becoming the captain of team India

Team India captain Virat Kohli has credited Mahendra Singh Dhoni in becoming the captain of the team by playing an important role. During a live chat session on Instagram with his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, Kohli said that MS Dhoni had a lot of confidence in him that he can do it after him. ## Kohli took over as the full-time Test captain when Dhoni retired from the longest format midway through India's tour of Australia in 2014-15 and later became captain across formats when Dhoni quit his limited-overs post in early 2017.## "I was always inclined towards taking responsibility. After that it was all about just wanting to play, wanting to be in the XI regularly. I didn't play all the games, but I wanted to be discussed, that 'whether this guy is good enough to play or not.' That is a transition that slowly happens," Kohli said.## The Indian captain also revealed that because of his interest in the game, he used to discuss a lot of things with MS Dhoni when he was not captain. Because Dhoni had observed him closely, it helped him become the captain of the side. ## "Then with your interest in the game, you start talking to the captain regularly. I was always in MS's ear, standing next to him, saying, 'We can do this, we can do that.' He would deny a lot of things but he would discuss a lot of things as well. I think he got a lot of confidence that I can do this after him".## "A large portion of me becoming captain was also to do with him observing me for a long period of time. It can't just happen that he goes and the selectors say, 'Okay you become captain.' Obviously the guy who is there takes responsibility and says, 'Okay I think this is the next guy. I will tell you how it is going.' And then slowly that transition is formed. He played a big role in that, and that trust you have to build over six-seven years. It doesn't happen overnight, it's a process," Kohli added.## A lot of credit of team India's success in recent times goes to Virat Kohli who has transformed the team. One of the biggest wins of team India under Kohli when India created history by winning the test series against Australia in Australia for the first time which came 4 years later of him becoming the test captain. ## Stay tuned...

What Is MCC's Law 41.16?

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the arbiter of the laws of the game, have released a statement regarding Ashwin's 'Mankad' run out of Jos Buttler in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab. The statement states that the spirit of the game wasn't violated during the incident.## Ravichandran Ashwin, the captain of Kings XI Punjab, dismissed Jos Buttler by removing the bails at the non-striker's end even before releasing the ball. Buttler who was batting on 69, adjudged out because of the MCC's law 41.16 that deals with the issue of a non-striker leaving his/her ground early.## The law states, if the non-striker is out of his/her ground from the moment the ball comes into play to the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the bowler is permitted to attempt to run him/her out. Whether the attempt is successful or not, the ball shall not count as one in the over.## If the bowler fails in an attempt to run out the non-striker, the umpire shall call and signal Dead ball as soon as possible.## MCC found Kings XI Punjab's skipper within the law and said that the spirit of the game wasn't violated. Ashwin too said after yesterday's match in the press conference that he didn't plan to do 'Mankad' Buttler.## "Look, it was very instinctive. On my part, it was very instinctive. It was not planned or anything like that. It's there within the rules of the game. I don't understand where the spirit of the game comes, naturally, if it's there in the rules it's there".## After yesterday's incident, Ashwin got criticized by some of the former players who found the incident against the 'spirit of the game'.## Follow for more...
