Laal Singh Chaddha Producers Refute Rumours About Compensation For Losses

Mumbai, August 16 - Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan-fronted Laal Singh Chaddha has been underwhelming so far at the box office, and reports have claimed that the producers will bear heavy losses for the same. Meanwhile, Viacom 18 Studios has denied reports about distributors demanding compensation for the dismal performance of the film.

The producers have claimed that "Laal Singh Chaddha" has no external distributors as the studio itself is distributing the film. "There are no external distributors. It's being distributed by Viacom18 Studios, and no money is lost in the first place. The film is still running in theaters both in India & internationally. This is baseless speculation", said Ajit Andhare, CEO of Viacom 18 Studios.

It is to be noted that Aamir Khan doesn't charge an upfront fee and normally relies on backend revenue. The budget of the film is not as much as reported in the media and according to the TOI, Laal Singh Chaddha will probably break even, once ancillary revenue is taken into account.

An exhibitor from North India said, "Most studios don't sell their territories, it is always distributed directly. Even if we try asking for the rights, it is too expensive for us. And the reports of distributors asking for money in the case of Laal Singh Chaddha is baseless as the producers are only distributors of the film".

"Laal Singh Chaddha" is the official remake of Hollywood's hit Forrest Gump. Despite performing underwhelmingly so far, LSC has scored approx. 100 crores at the worldwide box office in 5 days. Paramount Pictures has distributed the movie in international markets where it has grossed approx. 45 crores so far.

Mumbai, October 13 - Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has taken a sarcastic dig at director AR Murugadoss, who made wild excuses for the failure of Sikandar. The action drama, which marked Salman's first collaboration with ARM, was released earlier this year and bombed at the box office. During the recent interview, ARM said that it was difficult for him to work on the film as he seemingly accused the superstar of reporting late to the sets. Though ARM also said that Salman used to come at 8 PM due to the security threat, his remarks didn't go well with the actor. Aashiqui has been a cult franchise, but due to creative differences between producer Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt before they parted ways, the makers can't use the same title as the film. But the makers feel that Tu Meri Zindagi Hai fits perfectly while avoiding legal complications. "It's a classic love story with Basu's signature treatment of the genre. With the release more than six months away, it gives the team time to weave in some additional tracks. The latest schedule is underway in Mumbai, and the film will be shot till 2025-end, with patchwork spilling on to early 2026", the report added. Jolly LLB 3, which had already crossed 100 crores net during the second week, started its third weekend with 1.15 crores net, getting the advantage of Dusshera and Gandhi Jayanti holiday. It scored over 50% on Saturday for around 1.75 crores net, followed by another decent jump on Sunday to mint 2.15 crores. The Subhash Kapoor directorial minted approximately 5 crores net in its third weekend, pushing total net collection to 108 crores in 17 days. The third weekend trend, though, is on the lower level overall, indicating that the movie has some gas still left, which should help it reach 115 crores lifetime net collection. Jolly LLB 2 is currently the biggest grosser of the franchise with 117 crores net collections. It needs to be seen if the third instalment can cross that figure and become the biggest net grosser of the franchise.
