India has 28 states and 8 Union territories as of April 2021 in this country. Maharashtra is the third largest state by area and the second largest state by population in Indian Country.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra is the chief executive of the Indian state of Maharashtra which a state's governor appoints. The chief minister is the leader of the state Legislative assembly. They would be the chief adviser to the nominal head of their respected state. All new principal announcements of policy are made by him on the floor of the house. The Chief Minister supervises and coÂordinates the policies of the several Ministers involved in the formulation and implementation of a policy and department. The governor is dependent on the chief minister for the removal of ministers because the governor can"™t remove/dismiss ministers at his will. The Chief Minister has a free hand in preparing the list of his colleagues and also he may ask anyone of his colleagues to resign.

Maharashtra has a bicameral legislature that consists of two houses. The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has 288 seats, headed by a speaker. Maharashtra state sends 48 members to the Lok Sabha and 19 members to the Rajya Sabha. The Chief Minister heads the executive, which is made up of the party or coalition elected with a majority in the legislature. Chief ministers guide and control the activity of other ministers. The maximum term served of the chief minister is for five years and is subject to no term limits. The formation of the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra was on 1 May 1960.
