Ranveer Singh's '83' Debuts In Netflix's Top 5 Movies Worldwide

Mumbai, March 31 - Ranveer Singh-fronted sports biopic, "83" has had an impressive debut on Netflix after completing its theatrical run. The Kabir Khan-directed lent in the top 5 most-watched non-English movies on Netflix worldwide.



"83" movie was released in theaters worldwide on December 24 last year and was recently made available on OTT platforms - Disney Plus Hotstar and Netflix on March 21. In its opening week (March 21 - March 27) on Netflix, the movie got 10.5 million viewing hours and was the 4th most-watched movie on the streamer.
Based on India's maiden cricket world cup triumph in 1983, "83" has been trending in the top 10 films in 20 countries. Among the Asian countries, the movie is the number 1 on Netflix in India, apart from Bahrain, Bangladesh, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates. It is also the number 1 movie in Africa's Mauritius.
Meanwhile, the Swedish action thriller film, "Black Crab", which was released on March 18 directly on Netflix, garnered a massive 40.5 million viewing hours and remained the number 1 non-English movie on Netflix during the same week. "In Good Hands" and "Without Saying Goodbye" were number 2 and 3 with 28.93M and 13.85M viewing hours, respectively.



Moving on to "83", the movie has had a decent outing at the box office. During its theatrical run, it grossed approx. 193 crores worldwide, however, due to the high stake involved in it, the movie was declared a box office flop. It was still the second highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office after "Sooryavanshi".





The movie is produced by Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films, Vibri Media, KA Productions, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, and Kabir Khan Films. It also stars Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, and R. Badree.

Mumbai, December 27 - Filmmaker Anand L Rai's romantic-drama "Atrangi Re" starring Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan, along with Akshay Kumar in the extended cameo, is having a good run on the OTT space. The movie was directly released on Disney+Hotstar on December 24, and as announced by the streamer, the film became the most-viewed Hotstar title on a premier day. ## While Hotstar announced that "Atrangi Re" is its most-viewed film on the first day, the question remains about the views it got. The OTT platforms have always been on the receiving side for manipulating viewership data and for their lack of transparency.## Ormax Media, a media consulting firm that tracks viewership figures of top releases across major platforms, is one of the trustable sources when it comes to viewership numbers. According to the company, "Atrangi Re" easily topped the last week by a long margin. The movie gained over 8.8 million views in the first 3 days, almost double than Sushmita Sen's "Aarya" Season 2's 4.7 million views from Dec. 20 to 26th. ## "Atrangi Re" was released in Hindi and Tamil (dubbed). The Tamil version was released due to the presence of Kollywood superstar Dhanush. Written by Himanshu Sharma, the movie got mixed responses from critics and viewers alike, who praised the unconventional plot, performances of the lead actors, however, called the screenplay incoherent and messed up with poor execution of the overall storyline. ## Produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape of Good Films, "Atrangi Re" marks Akshay's second direct OTT release. IANS Review: 'Atrangi Re': Intriguing narrative keeps you hooked (IANS Rating: ***)

Film: 'Atrangi Re' (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar); Duration: 138 minutes. ## Director: Aanand L. Rai. Cast: Akshay Kumar, Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan, Seema Biswas, Ashish Verma and Dimple Hayathi. ## Rating: *** ## Treated like a light-hearted romance-comedy, 'Atrangi Re' promises a love story with a difference, and it is a familiar but not a different tale to an extent. ## To enjoy the film, you need to empathise with Rinku (Sara Ali Khan), an orphan from Bihar who is forced to marry the kidnapped Dr. S. Vishwanath Iyer (Dhanush), a Tamilian from Chennai visiting her hometown. ## Competing in this love story is Vishu's girlfriend Mandakini, aka Mandy (Dimple Hayathi), who is the daughter of his dean, who is supposed to get engaged to Vishu in the next few days. And the other member in this love-quadrangle is the magician Sajjad Ali Khan (Akshay Kumar), with whom Rinku is head-over-heels. ## The narrative leads you through an intriguing path. It allows you to fantasize about myriad possibilities ahead. That is what keeps you hooked. But by the end, you realise that while the concept is interesting, the narrative is frothily shallow and a bit disappointing. ## The film begins on a dramatic note with Rinku frenetically running away from home, and ever thence you notice especially during the first half, every frame seems to be designed in a frenzy. Someone or the other is running across the screen. These long continuous shots are skilfully captured, and they only add drama to the scenes. ## Sara Ali Khan, as the rustic and boisterous Rinku, delivers a relatable performance, but when, in a scene with Sajjad, she breaks into English, you apprehend that her character has not been chiselled, to perfection. ## Similarly, Dhanush is charming all the way, there are times where your heart goes out for him, but once again, his character seems to be short-changed by the script, for there are moments when his emotional arch is cut short. ## Dimple Hayathi is a competent actress but with limited screen time, her histrionics is not brought to the fore. ## After a long time, Akshay Kumar looks fresh and young on-screen, and he delivers a fairly buoyant performance not overshadowing either Sara or Dhanush. ## Seema Biswas as Rinku's feisty and autocratic grandmother Dhulhayen, Ashish Verma as Vishu's friend and colleague Madhu, and the rest of the supporting cast leave their mark on the screen. ## Technically the film is astutely mounted with great production qualities. Also, the songs and the background score are loud and upbeat, and they mesh with the narrative seamlessly. ## Overall, Atrangi Re speaks about the language of the heart, but with no Hindi or English subtitles to the Tamil dialogues spoken by Vishu and his ilk, the finer nuances of the words spoken are lost in guesstimation. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

The movie was supposed to release in theaters but due to the second covid-19 wave and overcrowded theatrical releases, the makers thought of releasing the film on OTT will be a good result for the film. ## The title of the film, "Atrangi Re" has been attracting viewers, and now, director Anand L Rai reveals that he was lucky to get the title. In a recent conversation with ETimes, Rai revealed that the "Atrangi Re" title was already registered with Salman Khan Productions but he gave it to him on one condition. ## "Salman Bhai had the title registered to his production house but he gave it to me on one condition. He told his associates to give the title rights only if I direct the film, otherwise, they wouldn't have let it go". ## Rai also recalled, "There's an interesting story about the time when I went to the film association to get both the titles. However, among the slate of films, Akshay Kumar's "Atrangi Re" has yet to get a release date. ## While many are wondering why the makers haven't announced the theatrical release date of "Atrangi Re", which is ready for a long time now, it has now been revealed that the makers of the film might be opting for a direct-to-digital release via Netflix. It is produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape of Good Films.## Akshay Kumar too had hinted about the direct OTT release of "Atrangi Re" in a chat with Hindustan Times. "To be honest, I haven't yet included Atrangi Re in the list because we are still mulling over whether it should be a theatrical film or an OTT release. After waiting for more than one and a half years, the rapid countrywide vaccination and theater reopening announcement in Maharashtra lures Bollywood filmmakers to announce the release dates of their pending movies. ## On Sunday (September 26), there were as many as 16 release dates announcements of Hindi movies, and six of them are to release this year and the rest are set to hit big screens in 2022. Apart from today's five release date announcements, Akshay Kumar starrer "Sooryavanshi" will also be hitting theaters on Diwali this year, which was confirmed by director Rohit Shetty yesterday. ## Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar will once again be in action throughout the year 2022. He is arguably the busiest actor in India and going with that reputation, he might have at least six movies releasing next year, including four confirmed releases. ## The first film of Padman actor to release next year is Yash Raj Films' historical action-drama "Prithviraj". The Chandraprakash Dwivedi directed will be hitting theaters worldwide on January 21. It also stars Manushi Chhillar in her Bollywood debut along with Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana, Sakshi Tanwar, Manav Vij, and Lalit Tiwari in other important characters. ## Sajid Nadiadwala's "Bachchan Pandey", which was originally announced for January 26, 2022, has been pushed to March 4 in theaters worldwide. Nowadays, he has become a guaranteed hit machine, in fact, in the last couple of years, he has been on a different level of producing some of the biggest money-spinners. ## While he gave 4 of the biggest blockbuster movies with Kesari, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4, and Good Newwz in 2019, an even bigger and exciting line-up of as many as 7 movies of him is waiting for all of us. Had not COVID-19 pandemic, he might have finished some of them by now. Now, the makers are planning to slowly start working, the actor has his plan laid out. ## According to a report in news daily, Akshay Kumar will first work on the spy-thriller, Bell Bottom that will be directed by Ranjit M Tewari. Akshay and the team will shoot the film in Scotland for a month. They will also shoot a few scenes in India. According to the report, Akshay chose this film first as it doesn"™t require scenes that need a lot of crowd or high-end action sequences. ## Later, he will resume work on Prithviraj Chauhan with YRF, which shoot was halted by the coronavirus pandemic. According to reports in the daily, the makers are in no hurry to finish it as it is a historical movie and requires a certain scale. So, Akshay plans to shoot it by October end. ## After Prithviraj Chauhan, the actor has Anand L Rai's Atrangi Re, co-starring Sara Ali Khan, and Dhanush. For this film, Akshay Kumar is required to shoot for two weeks. He will allot the dates once the shooting kickstarts.## After Atrangi Re, the 52-year old finally, will start work on Sajid Nadiadwala's Bachchan Pandey by December-January. "He has a team in place to ensure that all SOPs are strictly followed by everyone. Safety will be the priority on the set," said a source to the daily. ## Next year, Akshay Kumar to work with Ekta Kapoor for an action-comedy film which is a remake of a Telugu film. Later, he will collaborate with Maneesh Sharma for an untitled project.## As of now, his cop drama movie with the director Rohit Shetty is ready to hit the theaters on Diwali while his Laxmmi Bomb will directly release on Disney Plus Hotstar soon. ## Along with above all the projects, there are some strong rumors that Akshay Kumar might see in Yash Raj Film's (YRF) Dhoom 4 in which he will play the lead antagonist.
