Unni Mukundan's 'Marco 2' Shelved
Kochi, June 15 - Actor Unni Mukundan's action thriller Marco proved to be one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Malayalam cinema with the worldwide collection of over 100 crores. However, despite the big box office success, the movie also brought criticism for the actor.
Marco attracted huge controversy and negativity for its violent nature, which many believe was below the belt and also put CBFC under scrutiny for passing the film. Despite all the noise surrounding the movie, it emerged as a huge box office success, leading the makers to announce Marco, with a promise that they would be extra careful in depicting the violence.



There was a huge anticipation for the sequel among its targeted audience; however, in a surprising turn of events, Marco 2 has officially been dropped. Confirming the same, Unni Mukundan responded to a fan's comment on Instagram that the film has been shelved as there was too much negativity around it.



"Apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I'll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers", the actor said.



Marco was directed by Haneef Adeni and produced by Cubes Entertainments. The plot follows Marco Jr (Unni), a ruthless gangster and the adopted son of the Adattu crime family, who goes on a bloody rampage after the brutal death of his blind foster brother Victor.

Chennai, August 20 - Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj's much-hyped collaboration Coolie ignited hope of emerging biggest Tamil grosser of all-time, after the record numbers during the extended Independence Day weekend. The film set social media abuzz and drew massive crowds, cementing Rajinikanth's dominance at the box office yet again. ## But as they say, all that glitters is not gold, and that's what's happening with Coolie. Despite the spectacular start, the film is now showing signs of slowing down. With big drops during weekdays, it makes it almost impossible for the film to challenge the all-time Tamil box office record grosser, which is Rajinikanth's own hit 2 Point 0, which itself underperformed. ## The gangster action drama, after the record weekend of 385 crores worldwide, has dropped heavily on the first two working days with a combined total of around 33-35 crores worldwide. After 6 days, the film's total collection stands at around 418-420 crores worldwide, which could have easily been around 450 crores with a positive reception, which it did not have. ## Industry trackers, who were predicting Coolie to become the biggest Tamil grosser before release, suggest that it may wrap up its global run under 550 crore. It might stretch its total a little higher, but for that, the film has to show solid legs, which don't seem to be happening with the current trend. The awards, presented by India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, honoured films certified in the calendar year 2023. ## Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan scored his maiden national award win as he won this highest national honour for his exceptional performance in director Atlee's action drama Jawan. He shared this honour with Vikrant Massey, who won the award for 12th Fail.
