War 2 Box Office Woes: Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's Actioner Set To Finish As The Lowest YRF Spy Universe Grosser Domestically

Mumbai, September 2 - When War (2019) exploded at the box office with nearly 475 crore worldwide, it set the bar sky-high for its sequel. Expectations grew even bigger when Yash Raj Films announced the addition of Telugu superstar Jr. NTR alongside Hrithik Roshan, making War 2 one of the most anticipated films of Spy Universe. Everything was going well as the industry was in the joyce mood three weeks before in the anticipation of the film's box office juggernaut. And then came D-Day, and despite the hype, the film gave a little shock to the trade with the lower-than-expected opening. This little shock soon turned into an utter disappointment as the film could never recover from its underwhelming opening. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film is in its third week of box office run, and it can be said that it has fallen short of expectations, and fallen short by miles, as it is now set to finish as the lowest-grossing film in the franchise at the domestic box office in its original Hindi version. War 2's Box office Struggle After the underwhelming but still respectable opening weekend of 191+ crores gross, including 153 crores in Hindi, War 2 lost momentum completely at the domestic box office as it fell like a deck of cards without putting up any fight. After 19 days, the film has grossed only 280 crores, including 212 crores (176+ crores net) in Hindi in India. Domestically, War 2 will end below the lifetime collection of Salman Khan-fronted Ek Tha Tiger, which was the first film in the YRF Spy Universe. ETT was released more than a decade ago in 2012, and despite the much lower ticket prices and no franchise advantage, the movie grossed over 263 crores (198+ crores net) domestically in Hindi. With War 2 nearing its end, it will end up as the weakest domestic performer in the Spy Universe, a sharp contrast to the roaring success of its predecessor. Even in all versions (including Telugu and Tamil), War 2 has barely managed to cross Ek Tha Tiger domestically, while at the worldwide box office, it will end up as the second lowest grosser in the Spy Universe, only ahead of ETT, which grossed 320 crores worldwide. The Bigger Picture The YRF Spy Universe has been home to some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters, from Ek Tha Tiger to Pathaan. War 2 was expected to build on that momentum, but its struggle highlights the risks of relying too heavily on franchise value and star power without equally strong storytelling. War 2 is far from the box office monster fans hoped for. As it ends up as the lowest domestic grosser in the Spy Universe, the pressure now shifts to upcoming instalments like Alpha, Pathaan 2, to restore the franchise's dominance. Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Beats Director Siddharth Anand's Fighter, But Is This Really Worth Celebrating?

Mumbai, August 28 - It has been a tough theatrical journey for Yash Raj Films' highly anticipated War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani. The spy action thriller was expected to rewrite box office history, but things didn't go as planned, and as a result, it has bombed with an underwhelming collection. Released ahead of the big Independence Day holiday, the Ayan Mukerji's directorial took an underwhelming opening in India and overseas, and despite the big growth on day 2, it couldn't fly due to poor reviews and mixed word of mouth. It is now heading towards finishing below 400 crores worldwide as the second-lowest film in the YRF's Spy Universe. Amid the gloomy box office run, War 2 (350 crores) will manage to beat Hrithik Roshan's Fighter (359 crores), directed by Siddharth Anand, in a day or two, and will finish as either the second or third biggest grosser of the Bollywood star. Meanwhile, in terms of the number of tickets sold, War 2 has already beaten Fighter. During its theatrical run, Fighter had sold 3.68 million tickets on the online ticketing platform Book My Show, and now, War 2 has crossed this figure in 13 days. In terms of overall tickets, Fighter had sold around 1.16 crores tickets, while War 2 has so far sold 1.12 crores and will cross Fighter's number in a day or two. However, these mini milestones don't have much importance as War 2 is way ahead of Fighter in terms of scale, budget and star power. In terms of the Hindi box office, the YRF's biggie will finish behind Fighter, which can be termed as shocking. The film's success could've done wonders for the Spy Universe, but now, it is heading towards the days of uncertainty, with future projects getting pushed indefinitely. Stay tuned...

War 2's Box Office Result Alters YRF's Ambitious Spy Universe Plans For Jr. NTR

Mumbai, August 26 - Yash Raj Films' ambitious Spy Universe is heading into the days of uncertainty after the underwhelming results of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted War 2, along with Salman Khan's Tiger 3 at the box office. Particularly, the War 2's box office performance seems to have put the curtains on what could have been the future of Spy Universe. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 was easily the most ambitious and the biggest film in the Spy Universe. It marked the first major collaboration between North and South with the inclusion of Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut. The film was expected to write new chapters in box office history, but what happened with it has shocked everyone, as it is set to finish below 400 crores worldwide. Reportedly, YRF had planned a standalone War 2 spin-off film with Jr. NTR's character Vikram in the Spy Universe. According to the latest report by Bollywood Hungama, the studio has decided to drop plans of making a standalone film with Jr. NTR following the disappointing box office run of War 2. The studio was already reportedly developing a standalone film for Agent Vikram, but the failure of War 2 has halted the entire process. It is said that producer Aditya Chopra has decided not to move forward with the project. As reported earlier, the filmmaker is now redesigning the Spy Universe to give it a fresh touch. Currently, only Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh's Alpha is scheduled in the Spy Universe, on December 25 this year. Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan 2, which is supposed to be the next film after Alpha, is also said to be postponed indefinitely, while other films, including Tiger vs Pathaan, are not moving forward at the moment. War 2 is the sixth film in the Spy Universe, and it also stars Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor in the key roles. It is the costliest Spy Universe film yet, with a budget of over 400 crores, but has disappointed with its box office performance so far, grossing just around 344 crores worldwide in 12 days. Rajinikanth's Coolie Vs Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Opening Week Domestic and Worldwide Box Office Comparison

Mumbai, August 22 - The highly-anticipated box office clash between superstar Rajinikanth's gangster action drama Coolie and Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's spy action thriller War 2 has turned into a dull affair where both films failed to live up to the pre-release hype. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie had everything to run riot at the box office, be it star power, a blockbuster director, a music sensation, and a reputed production house, but all went in vain as the story couldn't connect with the audience, which didn't turn up as expected post the weekend. Coolie had a record-breaking start, followed by a record opening weekend for Tamil cinema. However, once the weekend was over, the poor critics' reviews and mixed audience reception came to spoil the party as the film couldn't hold on to the expected lines during the weekdays. Just like Coolie, the Bollywood tentpole also had everything to make a splash at the box office, but couldn't start well and later, the mixed reception didn't allow it to gather speed despite a big jump on Independence Day. Both Coolie and War 2 were projected to score over 2000 crores at the worldwide box office, but now, they are heading for a combined total of under 1000 crores, which is hugely disappointing. The failure of both movies will force the filmmakers to rethink how they need to approach pan pan-India market without taking much risk. Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan-Jr. NTR's War 2 Bags Big Non-Theatrical Deals Worth 225 Crore

Mumbai, August 22 - Yash Raj Films' much-hyped spy action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has been underwhelming at the box office so far, with a disappointing first-week collection of around 315 crores worldwide. Ideally, the movie should have done this business or probably more in the opening weekend itself, but poor reviews and mixed word of mouth proved fatal. With no sign of rebound, Ayan Mukerji's directorial is heading towards emerging as a loss venture for YRF. As per trade estimates, the film will end up with around 50 crores in losses for the studio. Given the huge production costs and how the film has performed at the box office, the losses could have been higher, but the makers recovered most of it from the non-theatrical rights. According to reports, War 2's digital rights have been sold for 150 crores, while satellite rights brought 50 crores, and music rights brought 25 crores in revenue for YRF. The total non-theatrical revenue of around 225 crores has helped the studio to bring down the losses. The movie was reportedly made on a budget of over 400 crores, as the costliest film in the YRF Spy Universe. This includes the salaries of Jr. NTR (60 crores), Hrithik Roshan (35 crores), Ayan Mukerji (25 crores), and Kiara Advani (10 crores). Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is the 6th film in the Spy Universe, and the sequel to 2019's blockbuster War. It stars Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut, alongside Hrithik Roshan, who reprises his role from the first film, Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor. ## Stay tuned...

War 2 and Coolie's North-South Collaborations: Unlimited Expectations, Limited Outcomes

Mumbai, August 20 - The much-hyped Independence Day weekend releases War 2 and Coolie were supposed to become the biggest box office clash of the decade of Indian cinema, but it turned out to be a wonderless show, where there was nothing magical as was anticipated. Both films were star-studded with top stars across industries coming on board. Both War 2 and Coolie were designed as grand North-South collaborations, promising to redefine the meaning of pan-India cinema. Rajinikanth-fronted Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, roped in Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for a cameo to boost its chances in the Hindi market. Similarly, War 2 paired Bollywood's action icon Hrithik Roshan with Telugu superstar Jr. NTR, in what was marketed as one of the most ambitious crossovers ever attempted in Indian cinema. However, both films have fallen short of expectations as a whole, especially in those markets where the makers tried to steal gold. In the case of Coolie, Aamir Khan's surprise cameo was promoted as a masterstroke to expand the film's reach in the North, and there was a lot of noise on social media regarding the same. But despite initial curiosity, the cameo added little value to the film's performance in the Hindi-speaking markets, which remained lukewarm after the opening weekend. Reviews noted that Aamir's limited presence felt underutilised, and the cameo failed to translate into sustained box office gains outside Tamil Nadu. In Hindi, the movie is headed for mid-thirty crores net, which is not the result the makers would have hoped for. The final can also be attributed to Rajinikanth and Lokesh, who have some appeal in Hindi. While Aamir's presence didn't bring much to Coolie, it was disastrous for Yash Raj Films, which teamed with the Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in a full-fledged parallel lead in War 2, introducing him to a larger Hindi audience while giving the film strong traction in the South. Unfortunately, the result was far from what the makers envisioned, or it can be said that the box office numbers were disastrous. While the Hrithik-NTR combination had the potential to ignite fireworks, mixed word-of-mouth and an uninspiring narrative led to a steep decline after its initial surge. Even taking mixed reception out of the equation, War 2's performance in South Indian states is nothing short of shocking. In the South, where Jr. NTR is a megastar with a massive fan following, War 2 failed miserably, with the final collection will be less than a hundred crores gross outside the Hindi belt in India. The blame can be put on negative reviews and mixed audience reception, but this is not the first time that the films of these stars opened with such a reception. Jr. NTR's last film, Devara, didn't get favourable reviews, but still went on to become a box office hit with over 400 crores worldwide. Likewise, Aamir Khan's poorly received films used to do decent business. But this time, both stars failed to bring the audience to the strong markets, which will make the filmmakers think about cross-industry collaboration. Coolie's performance in the Hindi market is still understandable; Tamil cinema doesn't have much pull here, and cameos don't matter much as far as box office results are concerned. But War 2's results in Southern markets, especially in Telugu, despite Jr. NTR's full-fledged role, will make the filmmakers rethink their strategy regarding cross-industry collaboration. Ultimately, War 2 and Coolie highlight the limitations of North-South collaborations when they are driven more by marketing optics than by creative synergy. Both films generated massive anticipation on social media with their cross-industry appeal, but delivered little to shocking in terms of box office results. Their underwhelming performance proves that the future of pan-India cinema won't be defined by cameos or debuts, but by universal storytelling that truly connects audiences across linguistic and cultural divides. Box Office: No All-Time Grossing Tamil Record For Rajinikanth's Coolie

Chennai, August 20 - Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj's much-hyped collaboration Coolie ignited hope of emerging biggest Tamil grosser of all-time, after the record numbers during the extended Independence Day weekend. The film set social media abuzz and drew massive crowds, cementing Rajinikanth's dominance at the box office yet again. ## But as they say, all that glitters is not gold, and that's what's happening with Coolie. Despite the spectacular start, the film is now showing signs of slowing down. With big drops during weekdays, it makes it almost impossible for the film to challenge the all-time Tamil box office record grosser, which is Rajinikanth's own hit 2 Point 0, which itself underperformed. ## The gangster action drama, after the record weekend of 385 crores worldwide, has dropped heavily on the first two working days with a combined total of around 33-35 crores worldwide. After 6 days, the film's total collection stands at around 418-420 crores worldwide, which could have easily been around 450 crores with a positive reception, which it did not have. ## Industry trackers, who were predicting Coolie to become the biggest Tamil grosser before release, suggest that it may wrap up its global run under 550 crore. It might stretch its total a little higher, but for that, the film has to show solid legs, which don't seem to be happening with the current trend. While 500 crores worldwide is still a big milestone, Coolie will fall short of the expectations, which is disappointing. ## Trade analysts note that after its historic opening, collections in certain overseas territories and the Hindi belt have not been as strong as expected, which has capped its long-term potential. In North America, where the movie had a huge weekend, the weekdays' collection dropped drastically, even below Hrithik Roshan Jr. NTR's War, which had an underwhelming run there so far. ## That said, Coolie has already achieved several milestones. It became the fastest Tamil film to cross the 100 crores, 200 crores, and 300 crores mark worldwide, apart from becoming the biggest Tamil opener and weekend grosser of all time. The movie also reinforced Rajinikanth's unmatched star power, as he continues to deliver films that not only perform in India but also create a stir in international markets. ## In conclusion, Coolie, despite the early promises, will not create the history, everyone thought it would. While it will still be among the top 5 biggest Tamil grossers of all time, the movie will end up as a flop or an average affair at the box office. The onus is now on Rajinikanth's next, which is the highly-awaited Jailer 2, to do the unfinished job. ## Stay tuned...

Top 10 Biggest Indian Overseas Grossers of 2025: Rajinikanth's Coolie Rules the Charts

Mumbai, August 31 - 2025 has turned into a good year so far for Indian films in the overseas market, with movies from the Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam industries making a splash at the global box office. From grand romantic sagas to star-powered action blockbusters, audiences across the world have embraced Indian cinema like never before. Sun Pictures' gangster action drama, Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, was released on August 14, and within no time, it has stormed to the top spot among the biggest Indian grossers at the overseas box office. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is yet to complete its first weekend, already grossing over 150 crores overseas in 5 days. Yash Raj Films' romantic drama, Saiyaara, starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, became a global sensation. This has been the biggest success story of Indian cinema this year. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara blended soulful music, passionate storytelling, and stunning visuals, making it a cross-cultural hit. The film's theme connected not only with Indian audiences but across the world, making it the biggest Indian blockbuster in the international market. The Malayalam megahit, Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was hit by controversy in India, but that didn't stop it from making a big hit at the box office, not just in India but also internationally. It continued the Lucifer saga with high-octane political intrigue and action. The film’s international fan base, built from the first part, turned Empuraan into a global blockbuster. Thudarum, one of the biggest Malayalam blockbusters in recent times, stunned the trade and went on to score big at the box office. The action thriller, starring Mohanlal, did wonders globally and became one of only three Malayalam titles to cross 200 crores worldwide, including close to 100 crores gross from overseas markets. The historical epic, Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, impressed both domestic and global audiences and is currently the biggest Indian grosser worldwide with over 800 crores in collection. This Laxman Utekar's directorial's grand battle sequences, rich production design, and a patriotic storyline drove its stellar overseas run with close to 100 crores gross. Housefull 5, Bollywood's favourite comedy franchise, returned bigger and zanier. Despite the disappointment of not living up to expectations, this Akshay Kumar-led film did decently at the box office and is so far among the top overseas grossers. The film's mixed slapstick humour, exotic locations, and star power captured the attention of family audiences abroad, especially in the Gulf and the UK. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly marked a major comeback for superstar Ajith Kumar, after the big failure of Vidaamuyarchi. Ajith's vintage avatar in the movie was celebrated by the fans worldwide. It became the first film of the actor to hit 200 crores worldwide gross, including a good performance in overseas markets. War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has underperformed at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. In the first 5 days, the film grossed approximately 63 crores internationally. The movie is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films. After the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan returned to winning ways with Sitaare Zameen Par, a heartfelt comedy-drama that follows a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament. Just like Ajith Kumar, SZP proved to be a comeback movie for Aamir Khan by emerging as a box office hit in India and overseas. Sikandar, one of the major letdowns of the year, this Salman Khan-led action drama failed to perform to expectations despite featuring among the top 10 biggest overseas grossers. Directed by a seasoned director like AR Murugadoss, Sikandar finished below 200 crores worldwide, while its overseas performance was also not good. What Sikandar proved for Bollywood, Thug Life met the same fate for Kollywood. Kamal Haasan's much-awaited action-thriller, directed by Mani Ratnam, blended artful filmmaking with mass entertainment. The film's international premieres were major events, boosting its overseas revenue. However, it turned into a big disaster, failing to capitalise on the huge buzz. Before scoring his biggest grosser with Good Bad Ugly, Ajith Kumar had a big setback with the action-drama Vidamuyarchi. It was among the biggest failures. With heavyweights like War 2 and Coolie yet to arrive, the overseas box office race of 2025 is far from over. But for now, Saiyaara sits at the top, proving that heartfelt romance can still rule the world stage in the age of action spectacles. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, August 18 - Yash Raj Films' much-awaited War 2 has officially crossed the 100 crore net mark in Hindi during its 4-day opening weekend, but the performance is being viewed as underwhelming compared to the sky-high expectations. Ideally, the movie should have done at least 200 crores net collections in the Hindi version, but the poor reviews and mixed word of mouth affected it badly. ## The film, featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani in the leading roles, was touted as one of the biggest box office events of 2024, riding on the legacy of the successful War (2019) and the Spy Universe. Despite the massive hype, War 2 disappointed and is now at risk of finishing as one of the lowest films in the YRF Spy Universe. ## 134th Hindi Film in the 100 Crore Club ## With its entry, War 2 becomes the 134th Hindi film to achieve the 100 crore net milestone. This number itself shows how the club, once considered elite, has become relatively common over the past decade. Still, crossing 100 crore within the first weekend remains an important benchmark for any big Bollywood release, but much more was expected from War 2. ## Hrithik Roshan's 8th 100 Crore Film ## For Hrithik Roshan, this is yet another addition to his enviable track record, something trade and fans feel could have been much brighter. War 2 marks his 8th film to cross the 100 crore net mark in Hindi, cementing his position as one of Bollywood's most bankable action stars. With films like Bang Bang!, Krrish 3, Super 30, War, and Fighter, Hrithik has consistently delivered big openers and strong box office runs. ## Jr. NTR’s 2nd Entry into the Club ## Originally hailing from Telugu cinema, superstar Jr. NTR is slowly making his presence felt in the Hindi market, even though it is still a long way to go. War 2 marks his first major Hindi outing, now has his 2nd film in the 100 crore Hindi net club after RRR. His presence in War 2 has boosted the film's pan-India appeal, especially among Telugu audiences, but again, the potential was cut short by unfavourable reception. ## Kiara Advani's 5th 100 Crore Film ## For Kiara Advani, who marks he debut in the Spy Universe, War 2 marks her 5th film to enter the 100 crore club, proving her consistency as one of Bollywood's top leading ladies. After hits like Kabir Singh, Good Newwz, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Jugjugg Jeeyo, she continues to grab headlines with big-ticket entertainers. ## Underwhelming But Crucial Week Ahead ## While the 100 crore milestone has been crossed, War 2 has largely underperformed in its opening weekend, given the hype, scale of release and the Independence Day holiday boost. The weekdays ahead will now be decisive. If the film shows strong hold, it could go on to achieve decent success, but a steep drop may limit its long-term box office prospects. ## Meanwhile, the film has grossed approximately 265 crores worldwide in its 4-day opening weekend in all languages, including 210 crores gross in India and 55 crores overseas. The movie will need to put up strong holds in the coming days to reach a respectable lifetime total. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie and Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Feature In The Top 10 Movies of The Weekend (August 15-17) Worldwide

Chennai, August 18 - It was nearly the Indian domination at the global box office this past weekend as superstar Rajinikanth's much-hyped gangster action drama Coolie has stormed to the second spot at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. ## Over the extended Independence Day weekend (August 14–17), the Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial grossed a staggering $44+ million (385+ Cr) worldwide, making it the second biggest grosser of the weekend across all films globally. In the process, Coolie missed out on the top spot to Hollywood actioner Weapons, which collected nearly $50 million worldwide over the same frame. ## It needs to be noted that it was the second weekend for Weapons, which grossed $43.4 million during 15-17 August. During the same frame, Coolie managed $26.55+ million (232+ crores) at the worldwide box office, and was the 4th biggest grosser behind Demon Slayer ($32.3 million) and Nobody ($32 million). ## Despite mixed word of mouth and largely poor critics' reviews, Coolie's performance underscores Rajinikanth's unmatched star power and marks another milestone for Tamil cinema on the international stage. Its four-day extended weekend tally also makes it the biggest-ever Tamil opener worldwide, surpassing even 2.0 and Leo. ## The Top Ten Films Worldwide for 15-17 August 2025 WeekendRankFilm TitleWeekend WW GBOC (In USD)Weekend WW GBOC (In INR)1.Weapons$43.40 million₹380.00 Cr2.Nobody$32.00 million₹280.00 Cr3.Demon Slayer$31.30 million₹274.00 Cr4.Coolie$25.55+ million₹232.00 Cr5.Freakier Friday$23.80 million₹208.00 Cr6.Dead To Rights$23.40 million₹205.00 Cr7.The Bad Guys 2$21.20 million₹186.00 Cr8.War 2$20.70 million₹181.00 Cr9.The Shadow's Edge$20.30 million₹178.00 Cr10.Fantastic Four: The First Steps$18.10 million₹158.50 Cr## Note: International movies' data according to Comscore ## The film opened strongly in both domestic and overseas markets, with India contributing the lion's share of collections, while North America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia delivered robust numbers. Despite the robust weekend, the trade feels that Coolie somehow underperformed, considering the sky-high buzz and expectations. ## Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's spy action thriller War 2 was also among the top 10 movies of the weekend (August 15-17) at the worldwide box office with $20.70+ million. Released by Yash Raj Films itself, it took the 8th spot among the top weekend grossers. Overall, the film grossed approximately 265 crores worldwide in its 4-day weekend (August 14-17). ## As said, just like Coolie, War 2 also underperformed against huge expectations. However, in comparison, Coolie faired much better and, to some extent, it managed to overcome the negative reviews and mixed word of mouth, something War 2 failed to do, especially in the Telugu version. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Day 3 Collection: Downward Trend Continues As YRF Film Sees Alarming Drop

Mumbai, August 17 - The much-hyped Independence Day box office clash between Tamil tentpole Coolie and Bollywood blockbuster War 2 is turning out to be a no-real clash as Rajinikanth-starrer is running away with a big lead, even though both films have underperformed compared to sky-high expectations. ## There were massive expectations from both films, as the trade circles had predicted a combined domestic gross of 600–700 crores during the extended four-day holiday weekend. However, the cumulative figure for Coolie and War 2 is now tracking under ₹450 crores gross, making the clash a dampener in terms of overall box office numbers. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened with historic numbers, delivering the biggest-ever opening for a Tamil film. The gangster action drama, despite receiving mixed to negative reviews, has managed to stay afloat with strong festival holiday support; however, the trend has been on the downward side.## After three days, Coolie has grossed over 185 crores in India and 320+ crores worldwide, becoming the fastest Tamil film to achieve the milestone of 300 crores. Day 3 saw a noticeable drop of around 30%, with collections of ₹45+ crores gross domestically, but the overall momentum still positions the film for an extended weekend in the 375–400 crores worldwide range. The key test lies ahead, as sustaining beyond the holiday period could be challenging with muted word of mouth. ## On the other side, Ayan Mukerji's directorial War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has struggled to hold after its underwhelming opening. The spy actioner saw an alarming 40% drop on Saturday, despite the Krishna Janmashtami holiday. The Telugu version collapsed, dipping below 10 crores gross, signalling weak traction in South markets. ## In Hindi, the film managed 26–27 crores net (32 crores gross) on Day 3, taking its three-day total to around 100 crores net (120 crores gross). The extended weekend is projected to close around 125 crores net (150 crores gross) in Hindi. However, the Telugu version is a letdown, with a 3-day haul of just 50 crores gross (42+ crores net). ## Overall, War 2 has clocked approximately 170 crores gross domestically (142+ crores net) and around 215 crores worldwide after three days. With poor reviews and mixed audience feedback, sustaining momentum during weekdays could prove difficult, mirroring Coolie's concerns. ## Stay tuned...
