Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Tops 100 Crore At The Overseas Box Office

Mumbai, October 14 - The Kannada film industry has achieved another global milestone as Rishab Shetty's period folk action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 has stormed past the 100 crore mark at the overseas box office on its 13th day. This makes it only the second Kannada movie ever to achieve this feat, following Yash"™s KGF: Chapter 2. Produced by Hombale Films, the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara grossed approximately 98 crores internationally through its second Monday (12 days), before crossing the coveted mark on its 13th day. With this, Kantara Chapter 1 becomes the fifth Indian film of 2025 to surpass 100 crores in overseas collections. Written, directed, and headlined by Shetty, the film has already earned more than twice the overseas total of the first instalment, which grossed around 44 crores in 2022. It now joins an elite list of Indian movies to breach the 100 crore overseas mark this year and stands as the second Kannada film after KGF 2 (214 crores in 2022) to do so. The blockbuster prequel is currently the fifth biggest Indian overseas grosser of 2025, behind Rajinikanth's Coolie (180 crores), Saiyaara (171.50 crores), Empuraan (142.25 crores), and Lokah Chapter 1 (₹119.60 crores). However, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to soon surpass Lokah to claim the fourth spot. Kantara Chapter 1 is likely to finish above Lokah as the 4th biggest Indian overseas blockbuster of the year. Interestingly, both the biggest Kannada blockbusters, Kantara 2 and KGF 2, have been backed by Hombale Films, along with Kantara, which is currently the third-highest-grossing Kannada film ever. Meanwhile, Kantara 2 is inching closer to the 650 crore worldwide milestone. After 12 days, it has grossed around 638 crores globally, including about 540 crores from India. The movie is already the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, behind Chhaava, and with its current momentum, it could even challenge for the top spot of the year. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, October 11 - Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 continues its excellent run at the box office, grossing over 500 crores worldwide at the start of the second weekend, after the big first week in India and worldwide. The first week of Kantara 2's box office run saw it competing with the biggest Indian blockbusters, as far as ticket sales are concerned. On the online ticketing platform BookMyShow, the period folk action thriller sold the third highest tickets after the first week. The film, which has emerged as a nationwide phenomenon, sold approximately 8.20 million tickets in its 8-day opening week on the platform, edging past Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan's impressive 7.65 million and Rajinikanth's Jailer (6.60 million) tickets. In the all-time BookMyShow first-week chart (since trending feature), Kantara Chapter 1 now ranks third, behind Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 and Prabhas"“starrer Kalki 2898 AD, which sold 12.53 million and 8.47 million tickets, respectively. The numbers underscore the pan-India pull of Kantara Chapter 1, which has captivated audiences beyond language and region. Bengaluru, October 11 - Rishab Shetty's period folk action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 has officially crossed the 500 crore milestone worldwide, marking yet another historic moment for Kannada cinema. The film, which continues to enjoy a phenomenal run across India and overseas, has reached this figure within just nine days of its release. The film's strong word-of-mouth, repeat viewership, and spiritual intensity have made it a nationwide phenomenon, reminiscent of the first film's extraordinary run back in 2022. With this milestone, Kantara 2 has become the fourth Indian film of 2025 to enter the 500 crore club after Coolie, Saiyaara, and Chhaava. It is also only the second Kannada film ever to reach the half-a-thousand-crore mark, behind only Yash's KGF Chapter 2, which was also backed by Hombale Films. Against All Odds: How Kantara Transcended Borders, Beliefs, and Box Office Giants Like Coolie

In a year defined by cinematic contrasts, two films have dominated India"™s box office conversation "” Kantara: Chapter 1 and Coolie. One is a rooted, spiritual saga born from Karnataka"™s folklore; the other, a high-voltage pan-India action entertainer led by a superstar ensemble. Yet both, in their own ways, have redefined what success looks like in 2025. While Coolie stormed into theatres with massive pre-release hype and record-breaking advances, Kantara took a different route "” slow, steady, and fuelled by pure audience passion. Together, they reflect the power of both spectacle and soul in Indian cinema"™s ever-evolving landscape. Coolie opened to thunderous numbers, earning around ₹77 crore[India Gross] on its first day and soaring past ₹272 crore in its opening week across all versions. With Rajinikanth leading the charge and Lokesh Kanagaraj at the helm, the film was always destined for a grand start. The advance bookings alone "” crossing ₹46.36 crore[With Block Seats] in India "” signaled a festival at the box office. From Singapore to Chennai, fan celebrations, themed screenings, and paid holidays turned Coolie into more than a film "” it became a cultural event. In contrast, Kantara: Chapter 1 carried forward the legacy of Rishab Shetty"™s 2022 phenomenon with a quieter but deeply resonant entry. Opening to strong word-of-mouth and organic audience buzz, the film saw consistent growth throughout its extended eight-day opening week. The film touched an impressive ₹403.25 crore [India Gross] within that period, driven largely by its Kannada and Telugu versions, with its dubbed releases expanding its reach nationwide. Overseas too, Kantara stunned trade observers by outperforming early estimates, achieving milestone numbers in North America, the UAE, and parts of Europe. Its Hindi version alone entered the ₹100 crore club "” a rare feat for a non-Hindi, folklore-based film. The success of Kantara lies not in marketing muscle but in its emotional pull. The film"™s exploration of divine justice, land, and faith resonated deeply across demographics. Audiences didn"™t just watch it "” they experienced it. This strong connection translated into repeat viewings and minimal weekday drops, with the eighth day itself adding over ₹21.15 crore [India Net] "” proof of its staying power. On the other hand, Coolie exemplified the might of stardom and scale "” a reminder that high-octane storytelling and mass appeal still dominate the multiplex game. Both films thrived, but for very different reasons. Coolie leveraged superstardom, scale, and spectacle, while Kantara harnessed storytelling, authenticity, and emotion. In an industry where marketing often dictates momentum, Kantara"™s rise through sheer audience word-of-mouth shows the timeless power of rooted storytelling. Meanwhile, Coolie"™s performance reaffirms that grand cinema, when executed with precision, can still unify audiences across languages and borders. Together, they form two sides of India"™s cinematic coin "” one shining with grandeur, the other glowing with grace "” and both proving that 2025 truly belongs to every kind of story.

Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude (2025) Set to Rule the Diwali Box Office? Kollywood

Pradeep Ranganathan"™s Dude (2025) Set to Rule the Diwali Box Office?

Pradeep Ranganathan is set to light up the silver screen once again this Diwali with his much-awaited film Dude (2025), directed by Keerthiswaran and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Scheduled to release on October 17, the film has already cleared censor formalities with a U/A certificate and a runtime of 139 minutes. The movie stars Pradeep alongside Mamitha Baiju, with R. Sarathkumar and Rohini in key supporting roles, while the music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar. Dude arrives at a crucial moment in Pradeep"™s career "” after the phenomenal success of Love Today and Dragon, two films that turned him from a young creative voice into a reliable box-office draw. Pradeep"™s rise has been remarkable. His directorial-acting debut Love Today (2022) was a modestly budgeted romantic comedy that became one of the most profitable Tamil films of the year, grossing well beyond expectations through strong word-of-mouth and youth appeal. His follow-up, Dragon (2025), expanded his market reach with a larger budget and a pan-regional release, crossing the ₹100-crore mark worldwide and cementing his position as a star with consistent audience pull. Given this track record, expectations for Dude are naturally sky-high, with fans keen to see if he can complete a hat-trick of hits this Diwali. Dude is said to blend youthful romance with emotional family drama, carrying a multigenerational theme that revolves around the sacred thaali and the relationships it symbolizes. Early reports hint at a storyline that reimagines a young Rajinikanth-like personality through Pradeep"™s character, a creative hook that has already generated interest among Tamil audiences. The film"™s pre-release business has also been impressive "” Netflix has reportedly acquired the digital streaming rights for around ₹25 crore, a deal substantial enough to recover most of the production cost even before its theatrical debut. This ensures the producers are already on safe ground, and the theatrical earnings will primarily benefit distributors and exhibitors. Comparing Dude with Pradeep"™s earlier ventures gives some context. Love Today relied heavily on emotional relatability and word-of-mouth, whereas Dragon thrived on scale, music, and spectacle. Dude seems positioned between the two "” big enough to feel festive but still grounded in sentiment and humor. The songs released so far, including "œOorum Blood" and "œSingari," have already gained traction online, and Sai Abhyankkar"™s energetic score adds freshness to Pradeep"™s onscreen persona. The film"™s Diwali timing will also test its endurance against competing releases like Bison and other regional titles. With Mythri Movie Makers"™ strong distribution network and Pradeep"™s growing pan-Indian recognition, Dude could easily dominate multiplex chains in its opening weekend if early reviews are positive. The holiday period offers an added advantage "” sustained footfalls through Monday and Tuesday could push its first-week totals far ahead of regular-season openers. Overall, Dude represents a fascinating moment for Tamil cinema "” a film that merges the commercial instincts of a star on the rise with the storytelling curiosity of a debutant director. With its pre-sale success, carefully timed release, and built-in goodwill from Pradeep"™s previous hits, the movie enters Diwali week as a strong contender for the festival"™s biggest box-office performer. Whether it can turn that promise into another record-breaking run will depend on audience response in the first few days. For now, Dude looks well-positioned to extend Pradeep Ranganathan"™s box-office streak and possibly crown him as the new Diwali favorite of Tamil cinema. Take a look at the India Gross collection of his previous movies Love Today(2022):₹ 78.55 Cr Dragon(2025): ₹ 117.52 Cr

Top 10 Biggest South Indian Opening Day Grossers At The Hindi Box Office: Pushpa 2 Rules As Kantara Chapter 1 Takes 8th Spot

Mumbai, October 3 - South Indian cinema continues to make a mark at the Hindi box office, and the latest to enter the race is Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, which has taken a good start in the dubbed version, scoring 18.50 crore opening day. Among the top 10 biggest South Indian openers at the Hindi box office, Kantara 2 has secured the 8th spot. At the very top of the list is Allu Arjun's Pan India phenomenon, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which rewrote box office history with a mammoth 70 crore opening day in Hindi, which is a record. This number is far ahead of every other South release and firmly establishes Pushpa 2 as a true pan-India monster. Kannada superstar Yash's KGF Chapter 2 follows next with 54 crore net opening, a record that held strong until Pushpa 2 arrived. SS Rajamouli's epic blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion sits at number 3 with 41 crores net. It is worth noting that it was the Baahubali franchise, which originally opened the floodgates for South dominance in Hindi belts. Prabhas, easily the biggest South Indian star in the Hindi market, makes multiple entries in the top 10, with Saaho making it to the top 5, followed by his Kalki 2898 AD. Rajamouli's RRR, along with superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi extravaganza 2.0, also entered the list with solid openings. Breaking into this power-packed list at No. 8, Kantara Chapter 1, which is the second Kannada movie in this coveted list. Unlike mass-heavy commercial entertainers like KGF or Pushpa, Kantara thrives on its unique storytelling, cultural rootedness, and mysticism, yet still managed to draw audiences in large numbers on day one. Prabhas' Salaar Part 1 - Ceasefire, followed by Ram Charan's Game Changer, and Jr. NTR's Devara Part 1, take the remaining spots in the list. The last two are the only films with less than 10 crores net openings in the list in the Hindi version. Rajinikanth's Coolie Final Worldwide Box Office Collection, Records, and Verdict

Chennai, September 29 "“ Superstar Rajinikanth's mass entertainer Coolie has wrapped up its theatrical run at the global box office with mixed results. Despite a record opening and strong initial buzz, the film couldn't sustain the same momentum in the following weeks, leading to an average overall performance. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened to earth earth-shattering start of over 150 crores worldwide, before opening weekend collection of around 385 crores, both record numbers for Tamil cinema. However, poor critics' reviews and mixed word of mouth proved to be a roadblock in its promising theatrical run, which ended before its desired result. The gangster action drama was eyed as the potential 1000 crores grosser, but it could only manage a little over 500 crores worldwide. The final collection, however, is not a small total by any means, but the movie needed to score much more to be termed as a box office hit. The trade estimated that Coolie needed to score around 600 crores worldwide to break even. Here Is The Final Worldwide Box Office Breakdown of Coolie (Est.) India Net Box Office Collection₹ 285.00 Cr India Gross Box Office Collection₹ 338.00 Cr Overseas Box Office Collection₹ 180.50 Cr Worldwide Box Office Collection₹ 518.50 Cr India Footfalls/Admits1.80 Cr approx. In terms of audience reach, Coolie recorded approximately 1.80 crore (estimated) footfalls in India, a decent turnout but considerably lower compared to Rajinikanth"™s biggest blockbuster, Jailer. The film opened huge, even scoring one of the biggest debuts of the year, but it lost the plot in the coming weeks, which curtailed its long-run potential. Given the huge pre-release business and expectations riding on it, the film's outcome has been tagged as a below-average to average verdict at the box office. While not a disaster, Coolie couldn't replicate the superstar's past blockbuster highs and will be remembered as a film that started big but settled for a modest finish in the end. Stay tuned...

Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG Beats Rajinikanth's Coolie To Score Biggest Box Office Opening of 2025 In India

Mumbai, September 26 - Power star Pawan Kalyan has unleashed a box office storm with his gangster action drama They Call Him OG. The film has opened to record-breaking numbers domestically, registering the biggest opening of 2025, surpassing superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie, which belongs to a similar action-packed genre. Directed by Sujeeth, They Call Him OG scored an estimated 100 crore gross on its opening day at the Indian box office, including around 25 crore from premiere shows alone. This stellar start has eclipsed Coolie, which debuted with approximately 77 crore gross just last month. In terms of records, OG now holds the seventh-biggest opening ever for a Telugu film and the eighth-biggest for an Indian movie in the domestic market. In the Telugu states, the film has registered the third-highest opening day, trailing only behind RRR, starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, and Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule. Meanwhile, at the worldwide box office, OG has grossed around 140 crores, which is in the same range as Jr. NTR's Devara (142 crores) and Thalapathy Vijay's Leo (142.90 crores), featuring among the top 10 biggest Indian openers globally. It has beaten Prabhas' Saaho (130 crores). With this phenomenal start, OG is set to become Pawan Kalyan's highest-grossing film ever as early as its second day, surpassing Bheemla Nayak (158.50 crore lifetime). Needless to say, the film also marks the actor's biggest-ever opening, comfortably beating his earlier release Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Stay tuned...

Hyderabad, September 25 - Scoring 100 crore worldwide on the very first day is one of the toughest milestones in Indian cinema. Though the milestone is now not out of reach, only a handful of films have achieved that, and only 4 directors have managed to achieve this back-to-back. Both films crossed 150+ crore globally on day one, making him one of the few to achieve this consistency. 3. Lokesh Kanagaraj "“ Leo (2023), Coolie (2025) Lokesh has become the face of Tamil cinema's new-age mass entertainers. From Dangal To Lokah: The Highest-Grossing Films Across Six Major Indian Film Industries

Mumbai, September 20 - The Indian cinema is the most diverse in the world with its vast landscape of languages and cultures, each with its own set of superstars, styles, and record-breaking blockbusters. Over the years, the country has delivered rich results at the box office, not just with the mainstream Hindi cinema, but also with regional cinema, where films across different genres unlocked new potential. As the Indian cinema continues to evolve and come closer than ever, there have been certain films which have not only ruled their regional box office but also established themselves as benchmarks for their respective industries. Here's a look at the current all-time biggest hits from six major Indian film industries, which have set benchmarks for their other films to achieve. Hindi Cinema "“ Dangal (2016) Aamir Khan's sports drama Dangal (2016) remains the undisputed king of not just Bollywood, but of Indian cinema. With a staggering 2070 crore worldwide gross, the wrestling drama became a global sensation, largely due to its phenomenal run in China, which contributed over 60% to its total collection. Years later, no Indian film has managed to surpass its worldwide record. Telugu Cinema "“ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) While Dangal remains the biggest Indian blockbuster, it was director S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) that changed the game for Indian cinema. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty, the epic fantasy collected 1788 crore worldwide and showcased the true potential of Telugu films and also broke the language barrier to emerge as a pan-India spectacle, with a large contribution from the Hindi language. Kannada Cinema "“ KGF Chapter 2 (2022) Kannada cinema was largely limited to its home state before the Yash-fronted KGF franchise changed the game for it. And it was KGF Chapter 2 (2022) that proved that Kannada cinema could dominate globally. With its raw action, style, and storytelling, the film amassed an extraordinary 1230 crore worldwide, cementing itself as the industry's biggest blockbuster to date. Tamil Cinema "“ 2.0 (2018) The Tamil film industry has failed to match its fellow Southern industries in terms of potential, but it has seen a continuous rise over the last few years.
