Ayushmann Khurrana's vampire comedy Thamma, which is part of Maddock's expanding horror-comedy universe, faced unexpected competition from Harshvardhan Rane's romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Despite belonging to entirely different genres, both films managed to draw audiences post-Diwali, resulting in a collective box office gross of around 40 crore. While Thamma attracted family crowds and youth with its quirky premise and humour, Deewaniyat found love among urban audiences for its music and emotional storytelling. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, carried good pre-sales and opened on the expected lines.
