Warner Bros. Sets Release Dates For 'Dune' Director Denis Villeneuve's Next and 'Godzilla and Kong 3'
Los Angeles, June 29 - Warner Bros. Pictures has set a holiday release for the Dune director, Denis Villeneuve's next feature, described as an "event film". The studio announced that it will hit screens on December 18, 2026, and be produced by Legendary Pictures.## Villeneuve last directed, Dune: Part 2 which was a mega hit. The details about the filmmaker's next have not been revealed yet but it was recently reported that that he was working on a nuclear war and that Dune 3 would not be his immediate next. ## Even though the filmmaker stated that he would not touch Dune anytime soon, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Villeneuve may have had a change of heart and could be turning his attention back to finishing this sci-fi adventure franchise, before taking up the nuclear war movie. ## Dune 2, released in March this year, was a mega box office hit with $711 million worldwide against a budget of $190 million. It is currently the second highest-grossing movie of 2024 worldwide, behind Inside Out 2. The first Dune movie was released during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 and grossed $407 million globally while simultaneously having a day and date release on streaming. ## Warner Bros. Pictures has also announced the release date of the Legendary's next MonsterVerse film. Touted as the sequel to another mega hit of this year Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the movie will hit theatres on March 26, 2027. Adam Wingard, however, may not return to direct the next film in the franchise. ## Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), was released in March end this year and grossed $570 million worldwide against a budget of $135 million, and became the highest-grossing film in the MonsterVerse franchise, and currently the third highest-grosser of 2024. ## Stay tuned...
