James Cameron Sets His Next Directorial Other Than 'Avatar' Franchise

Mumbai, September 17 - James Cameron has been busy with the epic sci-fi Avatar franchise since 1997 and is currently directing the third instalment of this blockbuster franchise which is scheduled to hit the big screen on December 20, 2025. ## While there are, at least, two more Avatar films after Avatar 3, Cameron has set his next directorial project other than Avatar. According to Variety, the maverick filmmaker has purchased the rights to Charles Pellegrino's book "Ghosts of Hiroshima", which will be published by Blackstone Publishing in August 2025.## Cameron will combine and adapt Ghosts and Pellegrino's 2015 book Last Train From Hiroshima into a single film, which he will shoot when Avatar production allows. ## The filmmaker's new film will be titled, Last Train from Hiroshima which will tell the true story of a Japanese man during World War II who survived two atomic bombings: after living through the explosion in Hiroshima, he took a train to Nagasaki, enduring another blast there. ## It will be Cameron's first non-Avatar movie in more than 2 and a half decades as a director since he directed Titanic in 1997. Before Titanic, which is the 4th highest-grossing film of all time, Cameron directed six movies after making his directorial debut in 1982 with Piranha II: The Spawning. ## Cameron has been a box office monster as his last three directed films went on to gross over $2 billion each globally and are currently among the 4 highest-grossing movies of all time with Avatar being the biggest grosser ($2.92 billion). Los Angeles, January 30 - Blockbuster filmmaker James Cameron has another film of his in the prestigious and rare $2 billion club in the form of "Avatar: The Way of Water". The sci-fi epic has crossed $2.10 billion in 45 days and becomes the 4th highest-grossing film of all time. ## Meanwhile, "Avatar: The Way of Water" has been the number one film in the domestic (North American) market for the 7th consecutive week and is the only film to achieve this feat since Cameron's first "Avatar" movie in 2010.## "Avatar" (2009), which is currently the highest-grossing film of all time, spent seven straight weekends at the number 1 spot in North America. Now, "Avatar 2" has matched this feat as no other film in between spent more than 6 weekends at the number one spot. However, "Avatar" movies aren't the only ones to spend at number 1 for a such long period of time as there are 11 other films that secured the top spot for more than 7 weeks.## As far as the box office collection is concerned, "Avatar" had grossed $31.30 million in its 7th weekend for a total of $595.7 million after 45 days. Box Office: 'Avatar' Re-Release Beats Combined Re-Release Opening of 'No Way Home' And 'Star Wars' Films

Los Angeles, September 26 - Amid the anticipation of Avatar: The Way of Water, Disney re-released its predecessor Avatar in theaters and getting rich rewards at the box office. ## It has been 13 years since AVATAR was originally released in 2009, but the striking world of Pandora is forcing people to visit theaters to watch the 4K remastered version. The film generated $10 million in North America and $20.5 million internationally for $30.5 million worldwide over the opening weekend of its re-release. ## "We're talking about a film that's 13 years old, which people can watch at home. The big draw is the Imax presentation. 'Avatar' is serving as a reminder of how cool the imagery of Pandora looks on the big screen", says Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst with Comscore. ## The response to the Avatar re-release has been such huge that it beat the new releases as well as the re-release of some of the biggest blockbusters of all time. The movie came above Florence Pugh's "Don't Worry Darling" which grossed $30 million worldwide, though it was the number one movie in North America. ## In terms of recent re-releases, ticket sales for "Avatar", which played in 1,980 theaters, came in 85% ahead of the re-release for "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which grossed $5.4 million from nearly 3900 theaters earlier this month. Domestically, "Avatar" also came above the combined gross collection of the rerelease of "No Way Home" and "Star Wars: Rogue One".## As per Variety, the remastered version of "Avatar" took the No. 1 spot in smaller markets like France ($2.9 million), Italy ($1.5 million), Singapore, and Thailand. Other top territories were Germany ($1.3 million), the United Kingdom ($1.3 million), and Korea ($1.3 million). In India, it grossed approx. $700K over the weekend.## The encouraging box office response to "Avatar" has almost confirmed the massive opening of "Avatar: The Way of Water" which opens in December this year. "Had the re-release underperformed that would be the first indicator that — uh oh — there may be a problem [for the sequel]. The makers haven't made the official announcement regarding reducing ticket prices of the film but it seems, the decision came after Brahmastra Part One: Shiva makers confirmed that the film can be watched in just Rs. 100+GST from Monday to Thursday. ## Reducing ticket prices could largely benefit "Chup", "Avatar", and "Brahmastra" as these films have found acceptance among the audience.
