Mumbai, August 31: Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is back with the final film in his Files trilogy, The Bengal Files, which is carrying the uncanny buzz in the trade and audiences alike. Following the historic success of The Kashmir Files (2022), which emerged as one of the biggest post-pandemic blockbusters in India, expectations are sky-high for Agnihotri's latest venture. The political reality drama is scheduled to release on September 5, and the advance ticket sales for the same have begun on August 31 in key circuits. Exhibitors believe the film could build momentum over the coming days, especially with strong word-of-mouth likely to play a pivotal role — a trend similar to what fueled The Kashmir Files into a nationwide phenomenon. The industry has largely been silent on Agnihotri's last few films, and the same is the case with The Bengal Files; even the trade, as a whole, is not throwing its hat in on what could be the outcome of this movie, which is very much similar to TKF on many levels. The Kashmir Files benefitted from raw audience emotions and word-of-mouth growth, and that might be the advantage for The Bengal Files, which is, as said, similar in genre and ignites the same emotions. The film has already generated conversations online, with discussions about its sensitive subject matter and Vivek Agnihotri's storytelling approach. Can It Match The Kashmir Files? The Kashmir Files stunned the trade by grossing over 340 crores worldwide on a modest budget, becoming one of the most profitable films in Indian cinema history. The big question is whether The Bengal Files can replicate that trajectory. Well, that is a question which will be answered once the film hits the screens. However, as said, there are similarities between the two films, including the dark history, which can be a game-changer for the film. Stay tuned...
Kochi, August 31 - The Malayalam cinema's Marvel-sque blockbuster Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, fronted by Kalyani Priyadarshan, is proving to be a force at the global box office. The film started as an underdog, but turned into a phenomenon with excellent growth over the weekend. After the better-than-expected opening (Thursday), followed by big growth on Friday, the film witnessed another excellent jump of over 65% on Saturday (Day 3), taking its worldwide collection to impressive new heights. On its third day, Lokah grossed around 20 crores worldwide, marking its biggest single-day total so far. The growth came both from the domestic market and overseas territories, showcasing its wide appeal. In India, the superhero saga grossed around 8.50 crores, while overseas collection was 11-12 crores. With Saturday's extraordinary performance, Lokah has reached a 3-day worldwide total of around 39–40+ crores gross. The upward trend has not only solidified the film's position at the box office but also opened the gates for an even bigger Sunday haul. The film has been riding high on positive reviews and strong word of mouth, especially for Kalyani Priyadarshan’s refreshing take on a homegrown superhero. With momentum on its side, Lokah is expected to soar further on Sunday and finish its first weekend with a massive total of 60+ crores gross. If the trend continues, the film could be on course to hit the ₹100 crore worldwide club in the opening week itself, making it one of the strongest openers in Malayalam cinema. Stay tuned...
Mumbai, August 30 - Maddock Films’ romantic comedy Param Sundari has kicked off its box office journey on a promising note, emerging as one of the strongest openers of the year in its genre. The film, directed by Tushar Jalota, had decent pre-sales, which led to its expected opening. Headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, Param Sundari collected around 7.25 crore net on the opening day. This marks Sidharth's fifth biggest opening to date and his strongest since Thank God (2022). In terms of solo outings, it is his biggest opener since Marjaavaan (2019). Director Mohit Suri's Ek Villain (2014) continues to remain Sidharth's career-best opening day grosser with 16.70 crores net, followed by 2015's Brothers (15.21 crores), which also starred Akshay Kumar. Thank God, co-starring Ajay Devgn, takes the 3rd spot at 8.10 crores, while the actor's debut movie, Student Of The Year (2014), is the 4th biggest opener with 7.48 crores net. Param Sundari's good start comes as a welcome relief for Malhotra, who has struggled at the box office in the post-pandemic era. Backed by positive critics' reviews and encouraging word of mouth, the rom-com is poised to enjoy a solid opening weekend, which is expected to be around 30 crores net. Stay tuned...
Mumbai, August 30 - The much-awaited trailer of the Tiger Shroff-fronted A-rated action thriller Baaghi 4 has been released on August 30. The film is directed by Kannada director A Harsha and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Also starring Sanjay Dutt, Sonam Bajwa, and Harnaaz Sandhu, the Baaghi 4 trailer is filled with non-stop, blood-soaked action and clearly shows why it received an A-rating. Some of the scenes might draw criticism for the gore visuals; otherwise, the trailer is intense. It is the 4th instalment of Sajid Nadiadwala's blockbuster Baaghi franchise, which features Tiger as he returns to reprise his role as Ronnie. The rest of the cast is new to the franchise, adding another layer to the series' growing stature. The film is scheduled to release on September 5. Stay tuned...
Mumbai, August 29 - Director Anurag Basu's Metro... In Dino had a decent outing at the box office, amid the low buzz and anticipation. Released in July first week, the big ensemble urban romantic drama has wrapped up its theatrical journey and moved to digital after 8 weeks of theatrical run. Featuring a star-studded cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sensharma, Anupam Kher, and Neena Gupta, Metro In Dino was reportedly made on a budget of around 50 crores, and grossed approximately 70 crores worldwide, including around 64 crores in India. After completing its box office journey, the spiritual sequel to Basu's acclaimed 2007 anthology film Life in a... Metro has started streaming on Netflix on August 29. As per unofficial reports, the film was sold to Netflix for 40 crores, as a result of the box office outcome. The film is expected to score good viewership on Netflix as it received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its ensemble performances, thematic depth, and Pritam's music. The movie, however, has its limitations due to its urban theme, which doesn't resonate with the masses. Metro... In Dino may not have shattered box office records, but it emerged as a critically appreciated and commercially decent venture. With its 70 crore worldwide gross and now a Netflix release, the film is expected to find new viewers beyond cinemas, much like Basu's earlier works that grew stronger with time. Stay tuned...
Kochi, August 28 - The Malayalam film industry has its moment, once again, as two of its most-anticipated films - Hridayapoorvam and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra - open big at the box office during the Onam holiday period, despite clashing against each other on the same day and date. The Mollywood industry normally doesn't indulge in the box office clashes, but to get the advantage of the Onam holidays, superstar Mohanlal's family comedy drama Hridayapoorvam was pitched against Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero film Lokah, and the gamble seems to have worked as both films open with positive reception and solid openings at the box office. The opening day battle is won by the Mohanlal-starrer, which has scored 3.80 crores gross collection in India and 8.35 crores worldwide. However, the movie got tough competition from Lokah, which looks like going to be a major box office winner. Despite clashing with the Malayalam titan, the first instalment in the filmmaker Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Cinematic Universe has taken a very good start of around 3.15 crores gross in India and over 6.50 crores worldwide. The critics' reviews and audience reception for Lokah are super positive, and seeing the opening day box office trajectory, it is going to rule the opening extended Onam weekend domestically, especially in Kerala. If early signs are anything to go by, the Kalyani Priyadarshan-fronted superhero saga could emerge as a big blockbuster in the long run. Trade experts note that while Hridayapoorvam has secured a bigger opening day tally, the sustainability of Lokah Chapter 1 could shift the momentum as the weekend progresses, as the superhero genre can explode if audience reception is on the positive side. Chandra has the potential to grow stronger in the coming days, much like earlier cult successes in regional cinema. Stay tuned...
Kochi, August 28 - The Malayalam cinema is ready to strike again, and this time, in the most unfamiliar territory, superhero, with Kalyani Priyadarshan-fronted Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. Indian superhero space has always been a tricky one, unlike Hollywood, which churns out global blockbusters. Here, we have only seen a handful of attempts in the genre, and when it comes to Malayalam, the examples are minimal. Before Lokah, the Mollywood industry had a chance to shine at the box office with Tovino Thomas' Minnal Murali (2021) in the superhero genre, but the makers' reluctance and lack of patience amid the growing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic didn't let that chance become a reality. Director Basil Joseph's film stood tall as a genuine masterpiece — a film that blended local flavour with superhero spectacle. Yet, despite the critical acclaim and the public approval, Minnal Murali never had the chance to prove itself at the box office, owing to its direct-to-digital release on Netflix during the pandemic. Well, the Mollywood, widely regarded as the content factory, has another opportunity to strike gold at the box office with a superhero, and this is where Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra steps in. Headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan, the film is already drawing attention as one of the most ambitious superhero outings in Mollywood. The initial word of mouth of the film is highly positive, with early audiences praising its ambitious universe that blends entertainment with heroism beautifully. It is the first instalment in the planned Wayfarer Cinematic Universe, from filmmaker Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films. Lokah managed to score decent advances of around 1 crore for the opening day, and seeing the early reception, the superhero film is in for a blockbuster ride at the box office. The movie is already seeing a surge in advance sales for the evening and night shows, putting itslef on course to take a very good opening domestically. For Kalyani Priyadarshan, Lokah could be a career-defining moment. While she has impressed in various roles across Malayalam and Tamil cinema, stepping into the shoes of a superhero puts her in a rare league, especially as one of the few female leads spearheading a superhero saga in Indian cinema. Chennai, August 16 - In the opening day box office battle, superstar Rajinikanth has officially entered the all-time top 10 list with his latest blockbuster Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Released on August 14, the gangster action drama stormed the global box office with a record-breaking opening for a Tamil film, cementing Thalaivar's dominance even in the era of pan-India cinema. The race for the biggest Indian opener has grown fierce over the years. It all began with SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which not only redefined Indian box office history but also became the first Indian film to cross 100 crore and 200 crore worldwide on day one. The director later broke his own record with RRR (2022), which took global openings to another level. In 2024, Indian cinema scaled unprecedented heights when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 – The Rule shook the industry with a 275 crore worldwide opening, almost touching the (still) unthinkable 300 crore mark. While Coolie didn't break into the top five, it still paved its path to history, delivering the biggest-ever Tamil cinema opening and ranking among the Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers of All Time. The Tamil cinema too is making long strides with 2 films in the list, while Hindi and Kannada cinema have 1 film each among the top openers. Looking ahead, the list may undergo a major shakeup with several upcoming juggernauts in the making. From Prabhas' Spirit, Fauji, The Raja Saab, Salaar 2, and Kalki 2 to Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana, Animal Park, and Dhoom 4, Shah Rukh Khan's King, Allu Arjun's AA22, SS Rajamouli's Gen63 (with Mahesh Babu), Yash's Toxic, Jr. NTR's Dragon, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, and Vijay's Jana Nayagan, all these films carry the potential to rewrite box office history yet again. Mumbai, September 4 - Bollywood action star Tiger Shroff is looking to make a strong comeback at the box office with his upcoming action thriller Baaghi 4 after a series of flops in the post-pandemic world. The early signs of the smashing comeback are looking promising, considering the pre-sales. Directed by A Harsha, Baaghi 4 is surprisingly having a better-than-expected response in the opening day pre-sales and has already raked in around 2.75 crores gross (without block seats) and when including blocked seats, the number shoots past 5 crores, with still a day left for the release. The current trend indicates that the film will have the best advance booking for a Tiger Shroff-starrer in recent times, even better than Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which also had Akshay Kumar. Opening Day Advance Booking Comparison with Other Tiger Shroff Films - - Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024) – It had low bookings considering the star power at 4.81 crores (without block seats), over 7 crores (with block seats) for the first day. - Ganapath (2023) – Registered poor advance bookings, failing to cross even the 3 crore (with block seats) mark for the opening day. - Heropanti 2 (2022) – Also suffered from weak pre-sales, but ended up better than Ganapath with around 5 crores (with block seats) for day 1. With these numbers, Baaghi 4 is on track to surpass Tiger’s recent outings and could emerge as his best opener since the pandemic if spot bookings also trend strongly. The Baaghi franchise has been known for delivering high-octane action and has a strong brand recall among audiences, which is clearly reflected in its advance sales. If momentum continues, Tiger Shroff might finally score the much-needed box office comeback with Baaghi 4, after a string of underperforming releases. The movie, also starring Sanjay Dutt, Sonam Bajwa, Harnaaz Sandhu, and Shreyas Talpade, is scheduled to release on September 5. Stay tuned...
Chennai, September 4 - A titan of Tamil cinema with a legacy spanning over three decades, Vijay has consistently delivered blockbuster films that not only shattered box office records but also created lasting cultural moments. His influence runs deep in the industry, making him a truly irreplaceable figure—a sentiment echoed even by Sivakarthikeyan, who stated, "No one can replace the legacy of Vijay." Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan, whose upcoming film Madharaasi is set to release on September 5, 2025, stands at the threshold of superstardom. With a string of successful and diverse films like Doctor, Don, Maaveeran, and Amaran, he has carved out a unique identity for himself among the new generation of Tamil actors. The buzz around a potential "passing of the baton" gained traction when Vijay, in GOAT, was seen handing a gun to Sivakarthikeyan in a scene that many interpreted symbolically—as if the future of Tamil cinema was being entrusted to him. However, Sivakarthikeyan was quick to clarify that he viewed the moment as a gesture of affection and support, not succession. He added, "I cannot replicate Vijay sir's journey; I have to create my own," and emphasised that, "There can only be one Thalapathy... nobody can replace them." Industry sentiment also seems to reflect this transitional phase. Director AR Murugadoss, who is helming Madharaasi, praised Sivakarthikeyan's openness to work with emerging directors—likening it to the early encouragement once given by stars like Vijay and Ajith. With Vijay gradually shifting focus towards politics, many analysts suggest that Tamil cinema may be entering a new era—one where content-driven narratives and new-age stars could take centre stage. Sivakarthikeyan's recent blockbuster Amaran (2024) stands as a testament to his growing mass appeal—it was one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. The upcoming Pongal 2026 is already setting the stage for a high-stakes box office clash, with Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi slated to go head-to-head against Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. The matchup is generating intense excitement, symbolic of the ongoing narrative in the industry. Fan discussions across social media and forums reflect a divided yet hopeful tone. Some argue that "Sivakarthikeyan has the potential among everyone else to be the next superstar," while others suggest that the era of actors alone pulling crowds is fading: "Hereafter, there will not be a massive pull to theatres just due to superstar image... content matters." These perspectives suggest that while Sivakarthikeyan has undeniable momentum, achieving the rare air of legacy-level superstardom will require continued evolution and impact. In conclusion, the narrative isn't about replacement but progression. Vijay remains an irreplaceable icon—his career defined by decades of discipline, devotion, and triumph. Sivakarthikeyan, rather than stepping into his shoes, is building his own bridge—connecting respect for the past with a clear, forward-looking vision. The excitement around him is real, and whether or not he becomes “the next Vijay,†he’s already proving to be a leading voice in shaping Tamil cinema’s future.
AR Murugadoss, one of Tamil cinema’s most commercially successful directors, has delivered multiple blockbusters over the years, including Thuppakki (2012), Kaththi (2014), and Sarkar (2018)—all starring Vijay—and now returns with Madharaasi (2025), this time teaming up with Sivakarthikeyan. Each film showcases a unique combination of star power and technical finesse. Thuppakki, with Harris Jayaraj’s music and Santosh Sivan’s cinematography, was the first Tamil film to gross over ₹100 crore, eventually earning  ₹129.70 crore worldwide. The movie, which marked the third collaboration of AR Murugadoss and Vijay, has grossed nearly Rs 30.5 crore in Tamil Nadu on day one, thereby setting a huge benchmark in the state where it released in almost 650 screens.According to sources in the trade, the film has now emerged as the highest grossing south Indian film of 2018 earning over Rs 220 crore at the ticket window, surpassing the lifetime gross of Rs 218 crore earned by Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam. Sreekar Prasad, cinematographer Sudeep Elamon, and action director Kevin Kumar. Interestingly, the protagonist’s role was originally pitched to Shah Rukh Khan nearly a decade ago, reflecting Murugadoss’s long-standing pan-Indian vision. The film also reunites Vidyut Jammwal with Murugadoss after Thuppakki and includes a director cameo, following his tradition in earlier films. Behind-the-scenes footage has already teased Sivakarthikeyan’s intense action preparation, and the buzz around this project suggests it may represent the next evolution of Murugadoss’s cinematic legacy. While its box office performance is yet to be seen, Madharaasi is clearly positioned to be a high-stakes, technically ambitious venture that aims to bridge the blockbuster formula of his Vijay-led hits with a new-age, content-driven storytelling approach suited to today’s audiences. ##Take a glance at the Day 1 India Gross Collection ##Kaththi day 1 India net ₹ 23.80 Cr ##Sarkar day 1 India net ₹ 47.85 cr ##Thuppakki day 1 India net ₹ 13 Cr(Est) ##From redefining Tamil cinema’s box office standards with Thuppakki to scaling new commercial heights with Sarkar, A.R. Murugadoss has consistently blended mass appeal with cinematic craft. His films with Vijay not only delivered blockbuster earnings—each crossing the coveted ₹100 crore mark—but also set multiple records in opening-day collections, award wins, and overseas performance. With Madharaasi (2025), Murugadoss embarks on a fresh chapter alongside Sivakarthikeyan, bringing a new face to his signature high-octane storytelling. If history is any indicator, Madharaasi could very well be the next landmark in Tamil cinema’s evolving commercial narrative.
Sivakarthikeyan’s evolution in Tamil cinema has been marked by increasingly ambitious projects, notably Ayalaan, Amaran, and the upcoming Madharaasi. Released in January 2024 after years of delay, Ayalaan was a sci-fi fantasy directed by R. Ravikumar and featured Sivakarthikeyan alongside Rakul Preet Singh with music by A.R. Rahman. The film’s novelty lay in its alien-centric plot and extensive VFX work, which took over four years to complete. Despite pacing criticisms, it found favor with family audiences and collected an estimated ₹64 crore globally, with around ₹44 crore from Tamil Nadu. In contrast, Amaran, released in October 2024, was a patriotic war biopic based on Major Mukund Varadarajan, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy and co-starring Sai Pallavi. Produced by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, it became a major commercial and critical success, grossing ₹333.67 crore worldwide. It broke multiple records, becoming the second highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and the eighth highest of all time in the language, with a strong emotional core that resonated widely. Interestingly, despite fewer screens, Amaran outperformed bigger-budget films in footfalls, with audiences and critics praising its heartfelt storytelling and war sequences. ##Here is a list of his notable movies that grossed 100 cr: ##* Doctor (2021) - ₹ 100.5 Cr ##* Don: (2022) - ₹ 114 Cr ##* Amaran (2024) - ₹ 333.67 Cr ##Now, anticipation surrounds Madharaasi, a psychological action thriller slated for release in September 2025. Directed by A.R. Murugadoss and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, and Vikranth. Backed by a substantial ₹200 crore budget, it is expected to push Sivakarthikeyan further into mass action territory while offering depth through Murugadoss’s signature narrative style. In essence, while Ayalaan showcased Sivakarthikeyan’s genre experimentation, Amaran proved his mettle in serious cinema and box office dominance, and Madharaasi could be the defining next step in an already remarkable career.
##Sivakarthikeyan’s journey from a television anchor to one of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated stars is a testament to his talent, resilience, and deep connection with audiences. Hailing from Singampunari, Tamil Nadu, and initially trained as an engineer with an MBA, he burst onto the scene by winning Kalakka Povathu Yaaru? in 2006 and later gained popularity as a television host on Star Vijay. His big-screen debut came with a supporting role in 3 (2012), but it was Marina (2012) that introduced him as a lead. From there, he delivered a string of successful comedies like Ethir Neechal, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, and Maan Karate, each building his fanbase. Maan Karate notably became his first ₹50 crore grosser, establishing his commercial pull. He continued his success with Rajini Murugan (₹51 crore), Remo (₹76 crore), and Velaikkaran (₹86 crore), films that cemented his status as a dependable box office draw. Titles like Namma Veettu Pillai (₹63 crore) and Maaveeran (₹78.4 crore) maintained his momentum, but Doctor (2021) was the game-changer—it became his first film to cross ₹100 crore globally. Don (2022) followed with ₹114 crore, solidifying his place among Tamil cinema’s elite. In 2024, he delivered his career’s biggest hit with Amaran, a patriotic war biopic that grossed over ₹212 crore in just 10 days and eventually surpassed ₹300 crore, placing him in the top echelons of Indian cinema. ##Take a look at the rankings of his top-grossing films: ##1. It is known to all that SS Rajamouli has chosen Kenya as the primary shooting destination, where nearly 95% of the African scenes of SSMB29 are being shot. As the shoot is progressing at a brisk pace, SS Rajamouli, along with producer KL Narayana, met with Musalia W Mudavadi, who is the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya. On Tuesday (September 2), Minister Mudavadi shared a social media post, welcoming the team of SSMB29 and also revealed some details regarding the ambitious release plans of the film, which has reportedly been titled Gen63 and is set against the backdrop of the divine ancient city of Kashi. The minister also said in his post that the film is looking to reach over a billion people worldwide, which would be something out of the world if the makers pulled this off. Apart from the ambitious release plans, Minister Mudavadi also revealed that Gen63 is a 2-part epic saga, and now, that is something which is creating confusion. Time and again, there have been rumours about the plans to release the film in multiple parts, but the reliable Telugu media portals have confirmed that it will be a single-part film, not a franchise. The confusion persists, especially after the revelation by a foreign minister, as the makers haven't made any official statement yet regarding the same. Irrespective of how many parts of Gen63 will be there, the film is expected to take Indian cinema to new heights in terms of scale, budget, and box office performance. Touted as the globetrotter, it is said to be the biggest Asian project with a budget of over 1000 crores. The first look teaser of the movie will be released in November this year, and the plans are to release the movie in the first half of 2027 in multiple languages worldwide. Stay tuned...
Mumbai, September 3 - The much-awaited Bijuria song from Dharma Productions' upcoming romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, has been released, and as expected, it is a perfect recreation of the iconic 1999 song by Sonu Nigam. Sung by Sonu Nigam and Asees Kaur, the recreation of the song instantly made an impression. In the video song, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor are seen in a party mood where Varun is trying to impress Janhvi, who is looking super hot in a golden saree, as the duo sets the stage on fire. Apart from Varun and Janhvi, the song also features Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf, who play the second lead in the movie. The peppy number is a perfect ode to Sonu Nigam's old song. The new version is reimagined by Tanishk Bagchi, who has also written the additional lyrics in the original song written by Sonu Nigam. Mumbai, September 3 - Kaleem Productions and Hombale Films' animated epic Mahavatar Narsimha continues to hold its ground even after more than a month in theatres. The Ashwin Kumar's directorial has once again showcased remarkable staying power at the box office, inching closer to a massive milestone. On its 40th day, the mega blockbuster grossed 0.80-1 crore across all languages at the domestic box office. This strong performance at such a late stage in its run is a testament to the extraordinary word-of-mouth and family audience support the film has enjoyed. With this, Mahavatar Narsimha's domestic total now stands at around 292 crore gross, bringing it within striking distance of the coveted 300 crore mark. Considering its steady trend and consistent turnout, the film is well on track to achieve this milestone in the coming days, unless the new releases completely outplay it. The film already cemented its place as one of the biggest blockbusters in the genre and continues to expand its audience base with repeat viewings, particularly during weekends and festive days. Its unique blend of Indian rootness, grand visuals, and devotional storytelling has made it a cultural phenomenon at the box office. As the film enters its 7th week, all eyes are now on whether Mahavatar Narsimha can cross the 300 crore gross milestone domestically, further strengthening its legacy as a landmark success in Indian animation cinema, or it falls short of this magical milestone. Irrespective of what happens, it is already the box office blockbuster of the year. Stay tuned...

1. Chhaava – ₹807.88 crore - Chhaava was the powerful story of a brave hero, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the valiant son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. After Shivaji’s death in 1680, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, played by Akshaye Khanna, and his court rejoiced, believing their fiercest enemy was gone. Confident and emboldened, they dreamed of capturing the Deccan region. But their joy was short-lived when Sambhaji Maharaj, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal, delivered a stunning blow— raiding Burhanpur and looting the Mughal treasury. Enraged, Aurangzeb swore revenge. Anticipating a Mughal retaliation, Sambhaji made strategic preparations to protect his kingdom. However, what he did not foresee was the betrayal within his own family—internal politics that made it easier for Aurangzeb to advance. What followed was a gripping tale of war, sacrifice, and the unwavering spirit of a leader who refused to surrender. ## Chhaava had not only captivated audiences but also rewritten the box office record books. With a staggering ₹600.10 crore at the domestic box office, it became Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing film to date, surpassing all his previous works and reaffirming his status as one of the most bankable stars of his generation. The film entered Bollywood’s most elite league, becoming only the fourth Indian film to cross the ₹600 crore mark domestically, joining the ranks of Pushpa 2: The Rule, Jawan, and Stree 2. ## This historic success also marked a milestone for Rashmika Mandanna, who etched her name in box office history. With Chhaava crossing ₹500 crore, she became the only actress with three consecutive blockbusters crossing the ₹500 crore mark. Her previous two hits—Animal and Pushpa 2: The Rule - combined with Chhaava, completed a unique and unmatched hat-trick, cementing her position as one of the most formidable stars in Indian cinema. Chhaava was not just a film—it was a cinematic triumph that blended legacy, valour, and mass appeal into an unforgettable experience.## 2. Saiyaara – ₹512crore - Saiyaara was a film of many firsts—it marked the much-anticipated acting debut of Ahaan Panday, the first collaboration between acclaimed director Mohit Suri and Yash Raj Films (YRF), and also the producing debut of Akshaye Widhani. Moreover, it held the distinction of being the first YRF theatrical release with Netflix as its official OTT partner. ## The story revolved around Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), a closet poet heartbroken after being abandoned at the altar, who later crossed paths with Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), an aspiring singer with a temper and a passion for music. When Krish read one of Vaani’s poems, he was mesmerised and invited her to write lyrics for his songs. As they worked together, love blossomed, but their relationship faced unexpected challenges, forming the emotional core of the narrative. ## In what could only be described as a spectacular dream run, Saiyaara crossed the ₹500-crore mark at the worldwide box office within just 18 days of its theatrical release, firmly establishing itself as one of the year’s biggest successes. Starring debutant Ahaan Panday alongside Aneet Padda, the romantic action drama became the second film of 2025 to enter the elite ₹500 Crore club, following the record-breaking Chhaava. Saiyaara also made headlines for its massive pre-release buzz, emerging as the highest pre-booked film among several top titles. Saiyaara had registered the highest number of pre-bookings. At that time, it ranked 28th among the top booking grossers at MovieMax. ## Some of the films ahead of it included Jurassic World: Rebirth (2,087 tickets), Badass Ravi Kumar (2,400 tickets; benefited from the Rs. 99 offer), Fighter (2,850 tickets), Sikandar (3,700 tickets), Kalki 2898 AD (5,100 tickets), Dunki (6,300 tickets), Brahmastra (6,500 tickets), Singham Again (7,000 tickets), Jawan (17,500 tickets), Animal (18,600 tickets), Stree 2 (21,870 tickets), Chhaava (21,900 tickets), and Pushpa 2 – The Rule (22,500 tickets). Meanwhile, Saiyaara had surpassed prominent films like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (1,400 tickets), Sitaare Zameen Par (1,262 tickets), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1,175 tickets), and Kesari Chapter 2 (1,146 tickets).## Housefull 5– ₹288.58 crore - Akshay Kumar’s madcap entertainer Housefull 5 stormed into cinemas with an explosive start, collecting ₹24.35 crore on its opening day. This thunderous debut rewrote the franchise’s record books, surpassing all previous instalments by a wide margin. The journey had begun with Housefull (2010) at ₹10 crore, followed by Housefull 2 (2012) at ₹14 crore, Housefull 3 (2016) at ₹15.21 crore, and Housefull 4 (2019) at ₹16.50 crore—making the fifth chapter the undisputed champion of the series and another box-office triumph for Akshay Kumar. ##The film also achieved good success globally, becoming Akshay Kumar’s widest international release. It played in over 85 countries, reached more than 1,300 venues, and ran on over 2,000 screens worldwide—a new benchmark for both the star and the franchise that reflected its massive global appeal. The story unfolds on a luxury cruise owned by Ranjeet Dobriyal, Britain’s seventh-richest man, during his 100th birthday celebration. After Ranjeet’s sudden death, his will names a son from his first marriage—Jolly—as heir. Chaos erupts when three different men claim to be Jolly, each with a wife in tow. A DNA test is planned, but a night of wild partying ends with the murder of a doctor. Two quirky detectives board the ship to unravel the mystery, leading to a storm of mistaken identities, comic twists, and revelations on the high seas.## ## Sitaare Zameen Par – ₹267.34 crore - Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par was a heartfelt Hindi drama directed by RS Prasanna and starred Aamir Khan alongside Genelia Deshmukh, marking her much-anticipated comeback after 13 years. The film brought together a talented ensemble cast in a story that blended emotional depth with an inspiring message, while also breaking new ground in accessibility, making it a cinematic experience for audiences of all abilities. In the last quarter of the millennium, ‘mainstream’ Hindi cinema had evolved to mean far more than standard (and sometimes substandard) entertainers. A growing segment of these films focused on stories—mostly fictional—about people with medical afflictions and disabilities. ## Just recently, audiences had seen the sensitive Tanvi—The Great, which explored autism with depth and compassion. For films built around such themes, disabilities needed to be portrayed in a positive and wholesomely compassionate light—avoiding frivolity, as seen in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan (on blindness), or the kind of opportunistic, artificially convenient depiction found in Saiyaara. The balance needed to ensure that the ‘entertainment quotient’ worked in harmony with the ‘emotional quotient’ and, importantly, the ‘intelligence quotient’. ## Encouragingly, most films in this space had not only succeeded commercially but had also enhanced awareness, understanding, and acceptance of individuals facing such challenges. Marking a significant moment in this movement was Genelia Deshmukh’s return to cinema after 13 years in Sitaare Zameen Par, produced by Aamir Khan. In a groundbreaking achievement for global cinema, the film became the first in the world to feature all major accessibility features—closed captions, audio description, and Indian Sign Language—ensuring that audiences with visual, hearing, or speech impairments could experience it with dignity and independence.## This heartfelt drama had a strong start, opening to ₹10.50 crore on Day 1, followed by an impressive overseas opening weekend collection of 3.10 million USD (₹26.83 crore), underscoring that films with both emotional depth and inclusive vision resonated powerfully across borders.## Raid 2 – ₹237 crore - Starring Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, and Rajat Kapoor, and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 emerged as the 42nd success and 17th hit for Ajay Devgn. The movie followed Income Tax Officer Amay Patnaik in 1989 as he was transferred to Bhoj after a controversial raid in Jaipur. There, he confronted influential cabinet minister Manohar Dhankar, aka Dada Bhai, a revered figure who was secretly steeped in corruption. Determined to expose him, Amay launched a massive raid, only to find nothing, forcing him to change tactics against his shrewdest opponent yet. What followed was a gripping battle of wits, strategy, and perseverance to bring the untouchable politician to justice. The movie was released on Netflix on June 26 and received a strong audience response for its gripping drama and performances. However, Raid 2 It couldn’t impress much compared to its predecessor. ## In the end, this season proved to be a milestone period for Indian cinema, with each film carving its mark at the box office. Chhaava emerged as the undisputed champion, not just for its gripping portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj but also for rewriting history with over ₹600 crore domestically and cementing Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna’s records. Saiyaara made waves with its exceptional pre-booking numbers, holding its own against major blockbusters and delivering a solid opening that justified the early hype. Sitaare Zameen Par, Raid 2, and Housefull 5 also had their moments—drawing in crowds with their unique appeal and contributing to a vibrant, competitive box office. Together, these films demonstrated the diversity of storytelling and star power in today’s industry—proving that whether it’s historical grandeur, high-octane thrillers, or light-hearted entertainers, audiences are willing to show up in massive numbers when the big screen delivers a memorable experience. ## Stay tuned...
