Filmmaker Rohit Shetty Opens Up On The Box Office Failure Of Ranveer Singh-Fronted 'Cirkus'

Mumbai, July 15 - Filmmaker Rohit Shetty takes the blame on himself for the box office failure of the comedy caper "Cirkus" starring Ranveer Singh in a double role. Released in December last year, the movie failed miserably to gross just around 60 crores, becoming the lowest-grossing film of Shetty since "All The Best" (2009) at the worldwide box office. ## During a recent interview with India Today, the maverick filmmaker said that every success and failure of his movies belongs to him. "I make sure to surround myself with people who are honest with me. So, when a film doesn't do well, I know it. Hence, I have always believed that both my successes and failures are mine. There is no point shying away from it", he said.## "When a 'Singham' or a 'Golmaal' did well, that was also mine, so when a 'Zameen' (2003), a 'Dilwale' or a 'Cirkus' failed, that was also mine. I don't see a point in blaming anything else", Shetty added.## The "Singham" director further said that "Cirkus" was made during the pandemic for the workers so that they can earn their livelihood. Shetty's next theatrical release is the highly-anticipated third installment of the "Singham" franchise starring Ajay Devgn which is due to start filming next month and be released during Independence Day weekend 2024.## Shetty promises to make a solid comeback with "Singham Again". "The same audience made 'Sooryanshi' a blockbuster despite a 50% occupancy, and if it didn't work for 'Cirkus', I must take ownership of failures as well. That's not to say that I won't bounce back with the 'Singham' franchise again or 'Golmaal' or any other film, and I might make 'Cirkus' again, too". ## Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is currently busy with the promotion of his hosted daredevil show "Khathron Ke Khiladi 13" which premiers on July 15 on Colors TV. Shetty also has his digital debut series "Indian Police Force" starring Siddharth Malhotra. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video later this year.## Stay tuned...

It is the sequel to Cruise's 1986's blockbuster "Top Gun". ## Directed by Joseph Kosinski, "Top Gun 2" was a delayed release due to the covid-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled for a 2019 release but was delayed to June 26, 2020, in order to shoot several complex action sequences. 2020 was the year when the covid-19 pandemic gripped the world and the delay in the release was inevitable. ## The makers had hoped for a smooth release in 2021, but the relentlessness of the pandemic forced them to come with their product in 2022 only. During the period of covid-19, which was really taking a huge toll on the movie business, "Top Gun 2" makers had reportedly considered it to send for a direct OTT release. ## If not for Tom Cruise himself, the film would have gone to direct OTT release. Cruise showed tremendous confidence in the film and also promised the theater owners that the movie would only be released on the big screen no matter how many times it delays. ## In April 2022, Maverick hit the big screen and proved Cruise right with an extraordinary performance at the domestic as well as international box office. It is now the highest-grossing film of Cruise's career and as things stand today, it was the second most profitable movie worldwide in 2022.## "Top Gun 2" grossed over $1.49 billion worldwide, including $719 million at the North American box office (5th biggest ever) and $775 million internationally. Worldwide, it was the second highest-grossing film of 2022, behind only "Avatar: The Way of Water". ## According to Deadline, the total revenue of the movie is $1.15 billion, including $700 million worldwide theatrical share. Against the total cost, which is approx. $754 million, "Top Gun 2" generated a whopping $391 million profit for the studio. Blockbuster filmmaker Steven Spielberg righly hailed the film's success and credited for saving Hollywood. Cruise is now gearing up for the release of "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" which is slated for July 14, 2023, release. ## Stay tuned...

James Cameron's 'Avatar: The Way of Water' Generates $530+ Million Profit

Los Angeles, April 20 - Blockbuster filmmaker James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar: The Way of Water finally hit theaters in December last year, 13 years after the first Avatar movie released in 2009. And to no surprise, the sequel turned out to be the biggest blockbuster worldwide of 2022. ## The fans had to wait for a longer period to visit the world of Pandora all over again after the sequels to Avatar were greenlit by 20th Century Fox way back in 2013. At the time of the announcement of the sequel, Cameron was already the reason behind the top two highest-grossing movies ever with Avatar at No. 1 and Titanic at No. 2. ## The studio might have no idea how big Avatar 2 could go at the time of its announcement. However, the anticipation over the years kept growing which ensured that we were going to witness another epic box office monster from Cameron. Just when things were going smoothly, the covid-19 pandemic hit the world, and its relentlessness made Disney skeptical about the film's box office potential. ## The production of the movie was delayed during the covid but the anticipation among the fans never died. When the film was released in December 2022, moviegoers around the world thronged to cinemas in large numbers and as things stand today, Avatar 2 is the most profitable movie of the year, according to Deadline. ## Avatar: The Way of Water grossed over $2.31 billion worldwide, including $683 million domestically (North America) and $1.63 billion internationally. In India, the sequel is the highest-grossing non-Indian movie ever with around $58 million. Avatar 2 is also the highest-grossing worldwide post the covid-19 pandemic and the third-highest-grossing film of all time. ## As per the Deadline, the total revenue of Avatar 2 is approx. $1.62 billion, including the theatrical share of approx. $1.27 billion. Against the total cost, which is approx. 1.08 billion, Avatar 2 made a profit of a whopping $532 million. ## The opening of Avatar 2, $442 million worldwide, was lower than the initial projection which was at least $500 million. At that time, many started doubting that it might not make it to the $2 billion club. But just like previous films of Cameron, it also proved everyone wrong with its longevity at the box office as it surpassed all the projections at the end of its run. ## Stay tuned...

Ranbir Kapoor's 'Shamshera' Dialogue Writer Piyush Mishra Opens Up On Film's Box Office Failure

Mumbai, March 20 - Ranbir Kapoor-fronted period action drama film Shamshera was one of the most anticipated movies of 2022, however, it bombed at the box office and turned out to be the biggest disappointment for Bollywood. ## Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera met with poor reviews from critics which didn't help the movie to take a big opening and then, the poor reception from audiences as well made sure it go nowhere at the box office. The movie got criticism for poor writing and direction which led to its major disappointment. ## Now, the dialogue writer of the film, Piyush Mishra opened up about its failure at the box office. In a candid chat with Hindustan Times, the veteran actor and writer said that "I also didn't understand why it didn’t work. People said it didn’t work due to the script". ## "I think we have already seen fantastic stunts so many times. Now you will have to compete with them, the revolution in the South. Baahubali was not merely CGI, it also had a very solid script. To compete with a Baahubali, you will have to write an equally brilliant script. Pushpa also had a very good script, it wasn't made just like that. Adding CGI is only beneficial when you have a solid script, CGI without a script is of no use", he added.## Though there wasn't too much criticism for dialogues, Mishra said that it's the screenplay that decides the quality of dialogues in a film. "I derive my inspiration only from the screenplay. Dialogues depend on the screenplay. It's not possible to write dialogues for a bad screenplay, at least for me it's not possible", he concludes.## Produced by Yash Raj Films on a budget of around 150 crores, Shamshera did a worldwide business of approx. 60 crores, including approx. 48 crores domestically. It also starred Vaani Kapoor as the female lead along with Sanjay Dutt as the lead antagonist.## Stay tuned...
