Box Office: 'The Marvels' To End Up As The Lowest Grosser In The MCU In North America and Worldwide

Los Angeles, November 20 - Marvel Studios' latest tentpole The Marvels is on the verge of becoming the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to finish under $100 million at the domestic (North America) box office as well as the lowest grossing film worldwide in the MCU The Brie Larson-led superhero sequel is turning out to be a rare box-office misfire in the blockbuster history of the MCU which kicked off in 2008 with "Iron Man". "The Marvels" had the biggest second-weekend drop of around 79% in the MCU history by a long margin.## The film grossed just $10 million in the second weekend, according to Variety. The total collection has reached $65 million (540 crores) in 10 days, and with the current trend, it is projected to finish around $80 million - $90 million in North America. ## At the overseas box office, the situation is the same as in the domestic market with a total collection of $96 million (800 crores) in 12 days over 52 markets. Box Office: 'The Marvels' Scored A Low First Weekend In India and Worldwide

Mumbai, November 13 - Marvel Studios' latest superhero movie The Marvels has a low weekend at the Indian box office which is a shocker. Marvel movies have historically done well in India but the same is not the case with the latest flick which even failed to beat the pandemic hit "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings". ## The sequel to the highest-grossing female-led superhero movie "Captain Marvel" scored just approximately 6.40 crores net collection in all versions in India in the first 3 days. "Shang-Chi", which previously had the lowest opening weekend for an MCU title since the multiverse saga in India, scored approx. 10.60 crores net. ## "The Marvels" took the opening of 2.50 crores net which is again the lowest since the introduction of the multiverse saga. The trends didn't improve on the second day (Saturday) as it remained flat and dropped on Sunday after the arrival of Salman Khan's "Tiger 3" to dismiss its chances of having some sort of outcome. ## The Brie Larson-led film was the least hyped Marvel Cinematic Universe title in a long time which pretty much sealed its fate at the box office as it couldn't rise above the low expectations in India. ## It was not only India where "The Marvels" massively underperformed, the situation was pretty much the same all over the world as it failed to beat the pessimist box office projection to gross just $110 million (920 crores) worldwide over a 5-day weekend. At the domestic (North America) box office, the sequel grossed just $47 million (390 crores) over the 3-day weekend. ## "The Marvels" has a production budget of approx. $275 million and with not-so-good word of mouth, it might not be able to cross the budget to end up being one of the biggest box office bombs in the MCU. ## Stay tuned...

The Brie Larson-led movie scored approximately 2.50 crores net in India in all versions, opening below "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" which scored approx. 3 crores net in 2021. ## Marvel Movies historically have done well at the Indian box office as six films have scored over 100 crores net collection. "The Marvels" was, however, the least hyped MCU movie in the recent past and it couldn't help itself to rise above the projection, resulting in a low opening. ## Opening Day Collection of MCU films in India since the introduction of the Multiverse Saga -## 1. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - 3.00 crores net## 2. Eternals - 7.34 crores## 3. Spider-Man: No Way Home - 32.67 crores## 4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 28.35 crores## 5. Thor: Love and Thunder - 18.20 crores## 6. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - 12.96 crores## 7. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - 8.40 crores## 8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - 7.30 crores## 9. The Marvels - 2.50 crores approx.## "The Marvels" is the sequel to the highest-grossing female-led superhero movie "Captain Marvel" which grossed over $1.13 billion worldwide, and took the opening of approx. 13 crores net in India and went on to score approx. 84 crores net collection. The sequel is unlikely to top or even come close to the first movie. ## The movie stars stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, among others. In the film, Danvers, Rambeau, and Khan team up after they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: 'The Marvels' On Track For The Lowest Disney-Backed MCU Opening Ever

Los Angeles, November 11 - Marvel Studios' latest tentpole The Marvels is tracking to score the lowest opening ever for a Disney-backed Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, after grossing just $6.6 million in Thursday previews. ## The $6.6 million preview gross is one of the lowest in the MCU in recent times, just one notch above "Ant-Man" (2015, $6.4 million). "The Incredible Hulk" has the lowest previews of $2 million for an MCU title in the preview era, but that’s when previews began at midnight.## According to Deadline, the "Captain Marvel" sequel is tracking to earn between $47 million and $55 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend, which makes it the lowest opening ever for a Disney MCU title. "Ant-Man" is currently the lowest MCU title ($57.2 million) under Disney.## Depending on where the final weekend gross stands, "The Marvels" could have the lowest opening ever in the history of MCU, a record which is currently with 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" ($55.4 million). It was backed by Universal Pictures at that time before Disney owned it. ## Meanwhile, the Brie Larson-led "Captain Marvel" opened to a huge $153.4 million in North America on its way to earning a massive $1.13 billion worldwide, not adjusted for inflation, in 2019. Marvel Studios 'The Marvels' Early Box Office Projections Revealed

Los Angeles, October 13 - Marvel Studios' highly anticipated film The Marvels, starring Brie Larson, is tracking a lower-than-expected opening at the domestic (North America) box office. The movie is a sequel to 2019's "Captain Marvel" which was a massive box-office blockbuster.## Directed by Nia DaCosta, "The Marvels" is the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase 5, and the first since "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" in May 2023. Being a sequel to a highly successful blockbuster, the upcoming movie carries big expectations as far as the box office is concerned but the early projections are indicating otherwise.## According to Box Office Pro, the superhero sequel is tracking to earn $50 million - $75 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend, which is less than half of $153.4 million opening of 2019's "Captain Marvel". The pre-sales of the movie are legging much behind "GoTG3" and "Ant-Man 3" which opened over $100 million each. ## MCU has been experiencing lacklustre box office response of late. It is still early, but if the lower-end box office projections of "The Marvels" don't improve then it will be a major setback for the movie, given the fact that its predecessor grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. ## "The Marvels" is a continuation of the television miniseries "Ms. Marvel" (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, alongside Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Samuel L. Jackson.## In the film, Danvers, Rambeau, and Kamala team up after they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers. The movie is scheduled to release on November 10, 2023. ## Stay tuned...

This makes it the joint lowest-budgeted Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie of all time, tied with 2015's "Ant-Man". "The Marvels" also cost $60 million less compared to its predecessor which budgeted at $190 million. ## The upcoming superstar movie is the first movie in the MCU's Phase 5 to cost less than $200 million. Meanwhile, at the same time, "The Marvels" is the highest-budgeted film ever helmed by a black woman, surpassing the previous record holder "A Wrinkle in Time" ($100 million), directed by Ava DuVernay in 2018.## About "The Marvels" ## Directed by Nia DaCosta and produced by Kevin Feige under Marvel Studios, "The Marvels" is the sequel to the film "Captain Marvel" (2019), a continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Marvel Studios' 'The Marvels' Theatrical Run-Time Revealed

Los Angeles, August 29 - Marvel Studios' next theatrical tentpole The Marvels is set to be the shorted Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie ever, according to the latest rumours. The highly-awaited sequel is scheduled to release on November 10, 2023, globally.## Directed by Nia DaCosta, "The Marvels" runtime has been listed at 1 hour 45 minutes in AMC Theaters. According to an earlier report by Comicbook, the film's runtime to be around 1 hour and 47 minutes long while another rumour says the runtime is around 1 hour and 38 minutes.## The current shortest Marvel Studios movies are "The Incredible Hulk" and "Thor: The Dark World", which both run for 1 hour and 52 minutes, so, if any of the aforementioned runtime is accurate, it would mark "The Marvels" as the shortest film in the MCU history by some margin.## "The Marvels" is said to be mostly a standalone movie with not much connection to the wider MCU. It is one of the few Marvel movies to run less than two hours. Other than the aforementioned two movies and "The Marvels", Paul Rudd's "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018) was another movie which was 1 hour and 58 minutes long.## The movie stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris. In the film, while investigating a wormhole linked to the Kree, Monica Rambeau's powers become entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Carol Danvers. The trio team up to determine why they are swapping places with each other every time they use their powers. ## Stay tuned...

Marvel Studios 'The Marvels' Will Release Without The IMAX Format

Los Angeles, July 30 - Marvel Studios' next theatrical tentpole "The Marvels" is getting ready to release in November this year. Directed by Nia DaCosta, the movie is the sequel to "Captain Marvel" (2019), which grossed over $1.10 billion at the global box office. It is the first female-led superhero movie to top a billion dollars at the box office.## "The Marvels" is expected to be another money spinner for Marvel and Disney, however, it will have to perform exceptionally well to top come close to its predecessor. In a major setback to the film, it won't be playing in the IMAX format due to Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi epic "Dune - Part 2" which is releasing on November 3. ## Warner Bros. has partnered with IMAX to play "Dune 2" for 5-6 weeks which means "The Marvels" will have to be without this premium format. IMAX has been a major contributor to Marvel movies so its absence will definitely make a big impact on "Captain Marvel 2's" overall box office.## In good news for the superhero movie, there are strong reports within the Hollywood media that Warner Bros. might postpone the release of "Dune 2" to next year if the SAG-AFTRA strike last longer than expected. In this case, "The Marvels" will be taking IMAX screens. ## "Right. Dune, specifically, I mean, there's another great movie coming out around [that] time, which is The Marvels from Marvel, and we can't play it because we are committed to Dune. So, Dune moves will just go over to The Marvels, and having a Marvel movie as a backup is not the worst position to be in the world", Richard Gelfond, the Chief Executive Officer, IMAX said in a recent earning call. ## "The Marvels" stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, alongside Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film, Danvers, Rambeau, and Kamala team up after they begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers.## The movie is scheduled to release on November 10, 2023.
