
Dharma Productions 'Homebound' Selected As India's Official Oscars 2026 Entry; What Is This Film About?
Mumbai, September 19 - Dharma Productions' upcoming drama film Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2026. The movie will compete in the Best International Feature category at the 98th Academy Awards, slated to take place on March 26, 2026. Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in the leading roles, the movie follows two childhood friends from a small village in North India who dream of becoming police officers, hoping the job will bring them the respect they never had. However, as they come closer to their goal, pressure and struggles create problems in their friendship. Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra under the banner of Dharma Productions, Homebound is based on a New York Times article by Basharat Peer from 2020. The film had its premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard on 21 May 2025. The film was also selected at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in Gala Presentation and was screened on 10 September 2025.
