
A Sequel To Warner Bros. 'Mortal Combat' Is In The Development
Mumbai, January 27 - Warner Bros.' New Line has greenlit a sequel to the 2021 martial arts fantasy film, "Mortal Combat". Based on the blockbuster video game franchise, "Mortal Combat" is Warner Bros.'s biggest hit to date on HBO Max. It was also simultaneously released in theaters and grossed approx $84 million worldwide. ## The studio has hired "Fantastic Four" and "Moon Knight" writer Jeremy Slater to write "Mortal Combat 2", according to Deadline. Slater serves as head writer on the Marvel/Disney+ superhero series Moon Knight, which stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and Gaspard Ulliel. It is slated to premiere on March 30, 2022. ## Since the release of "Mortal Combat" last year, the fans of this video game adaptation have patiently been waiting for its sequel. Since there was not much competition at the time of the "Mortal Combat" release, it easily opened to the No. 1 position at the box office with $23.3 million. ## However, this Simon McQuoid-directed got massive attention of HBO Max, becoming the biggest hit for the studio on HBO Max since the platform launched with 3.8 million views in the opening weekend. It is only behind Netflix's "Red Notice" in overall viewership in the opening weekend in the US. ## It has also been learned that many of the original stars, as well as the filmmakers, are expected to return for the much-awaited sequel. It stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada in key roles. ## Stay tuned...
