Mark the Calendar! Prabhas' Much-Awaited The Raja Saab Gets Official Release Date

Hyderabad, August 6 - Pan-India superstar Prabhas-fronted romantic horror-comedy The Raja Saab is among the most-anticipated Indian movies. Directed by Maruthi, the movie has officially been postponed from December 5, 2025, as was already reportedly in the media. Produced by People Media Factory, the movie will now be hitting the big screens on January 9, 2026, during the Sankranthi festival weekend. The makers officially confirmed the release date during the trailer launch event of Teja Sajja's Mirai, which is produced by the same team. With The Raja Saab confirming to come on Sankranthi, this marks his first film in 18 years, since Yogi (2019), to release during this lucrative holiday period. At the moment, the film is clashing with megastar Chiranjeevi's Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu, which was announced for Sankranthi 2026, along with Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan. Prabhas is undoubtedly one of the most bankable Pan-India stars, who can do wonders at the box office if the film is good enough, and considering this, the makers have given the best chance to the film to explode at the box office as Sankranthi is a major holiday period for the box office. During a recent interview, producer TG Vishwa Prasad hinted that they are planning to release the movie on January 9, 2026, while mentioning that Bollywood buyers were insisting on sticking with the December 5, 2025, release. The producer added that a few songs and some patchwork are yet to be completed as they are expecting to wrap the film by October. He also revealed that director Maruthi has shot raw footage of 4 hours and 30 minutes, and the editing team is working on chopping and editing it down to about 2 hours and 45 minutes. It can be said that the final runtime of The Raja Saab will be around 165 minutes, and it might get stretched to around 3 hours. Produced by People Media Factory and IVY Entertainment, the film's plot revolves around a young man who sets his eyes on his ancestral property to ease him out of a cash crunch. It stars Prabhas in the lead role, alongside Sanjay Dutt, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan (in her Telugu film debut), and Riddhi Kumar. Stay tuned...

Shah Rukh Khan's King To Not Release On Gandhi Jayanti 2026? Possible New Date Revealed

Mumbai, August 27 - Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in director Rajkumar Hirani's comedy drama, Dunki, in December 2023. Since then, he has been working on his next, which is an action thriller King, with his Pathaan director Siddharth Anand. King went on floors in June this year, but an unfortunate shoulder injury to Shah Rukh Khan, which he sustained while filming for an action sequence, has proved to be a roadblock. King Khan was advised to rest for a couple of months before he resumes filming, and that has reportedly altered the release plans. According to the report by Mid-day, King, which was reportedly eying the Gandhi Jayanti 2026 release, has now been pushed back due to a delay in the shoot. "Shah Rukh needs to rest it out for weeks before he can face the camera again. It is an action-heavy film, so the team doesn’t want to take a chance with his health", says the report. While the official release date has not been announced yet, a recent report by peepingmoon.com suggested that Shah Rukh Khan and director Anand are eyeing Christmas 2026 as the possible theatrical release date. The chances have become bright for this date after the postponement of Vicky Kaushal's ambitious Mahavatar. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix, King marks SRK's first screen outing with daughter Suhana Khan, who makes her big screen debut with this. The film also stars Deepika Padukone as the female lead alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, and Abhay Verma in key roles. Stay tuned...

Big Change: Maddock Films' Ambitious Mahavatar Opts Out of Christmas 2026 Slot Amid Vicky Kaushal's Scheduling Conflict

Mumbai, August 25 - Vicky Kaushal's ambitious epic action drama Mahavatar is no longer releasing on Christmas 2026, as the makers have reportedly postponed it to 2027 amid the shooting delay. The lucrative festive holiday period is now vacant for other films to occupy. According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, Mahavatar shoot has been delayed to next year amid Kaushal's scheduling conflict. To be directed by Amar Kaushik, the film was originally planned to start rolling by the end of 2025, which is reportedly not happening as the actor's Love and War with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is taking longer than expected to wrap. Apart from scheduling conflict with Love and War, Vicky Kaushal will also have to undergo months of intensive physical training to achieve the muscular physique necessary for his role in Mahavatar, which is based on Lord Parashurama. The report says that the makers are now eyeing to take the film on floors by April 2026. Produced by Maddock Films, Mahavatar is expected to be shot over a period of 6 months, followed by lengthy post-production work due to its heavy reliance on VFX. While the studio has not locked a new release date yet, the report says it might hit the big screen on Independence Day weekend 2027. If that happens, then the studio's Stree 3, which is currently slated for the same weekend, will be delayed. Mahavatar is the most ambitious production of Maddock Films yet, and the studio is leaving no stone unturned to make a visual spectacle on the big screens. In the movie, Vicky plays Lord Parashurama, who is the sixth avatar among the Dashavatara of the preserver god Vishnu. He is one of the Chiranjivi (Immortals), who will appear at the end of the Kali Yuga to be the guru of Vishnu's tenth and last incarnation, Kalki. Stay tuned...

Megastar Chiranjeevi's Much-Awaited Vishwambhara Postponed To Next Year; New Release Date Revealed

Hyderabad, August 21 - Megastar Chiranjeevi's much-awaited fantasy action drama Vishwambhara with Bimbisara director Mallidi Vassishta, has officially been postponed yet again amid endless rumours, pushing its release from the summer of 2025 to the next year. The film, which has already generated massive buzz among fans, was initially slated for a grand January 2025 release before being moved to mid-2025. According to the makers, the delay comes as the team requires additional time to polish the film's heavy VFX work, which plays a crucial role in bringing its larger-than-life vision to the big screen. On August 21, the makers shared a video featuring Chiranjeevi, in which the megastar addressed fans' concerns regarding the continuous delay in the film's release. "The second half of Vishwambhara is driven entirely by VFX and graphics. The delay is a conscious choice to ensure the highest quality. This is a film being made with passion, without cutting corners," said Chiranjeevi. It was then revealed that Vishwambhara will now hit the big screen in the summer of 2026. With Coolie, Director Lokesh Kanagaraj Joins the Elite 400-Crore League Alongside SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj teamed with superstar Rajinikanth for the first time for a gangster action drama film Coolie, which had a record-breaking opening weekend ever, after the record opening day, for a Tamil title. The movie entered the 400 crores club at the worldwide box office on its 5th day, and led the director to an elite club. ## With Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially entered the elite club of Indian filmmakers who have delivered three consecutive 400+ crore worldwide grossers, standing tall alongside legends like SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani. Arguably the most bankable director of Tamil cinema currently, Lokesh keeps winning at the box office. ## The filmmaker began this extraordinary streak with Vikram (2022), a Kamal Haasan starrer that revived the superstar's box office dominance and grossed over 400 crore worldwide. He followed it up with Leo (2023), featuring Thalapathy Vijay, which, despite polarised reviews, went on to collect over 600 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. Now with Coolie (2024), Lokesh has achieved the rare hat-trick, making him the only Tamil filmmaker to do so. ## This puts him in the same league as SS Rajamouli, who delivered path-breaking blockbusters like Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, and RRR, each setting new benchmarks not just in India but across the world, where his last two films went on to gross over 1000 crores worldwide. Similarly, Bollywood's titan Rajkumar Hirani struck gold with 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and Dunku, all surpassing the 400-crore milestone. ## For Lokesh, achieving the feat of delivering 3 consecutive 400 crores grossers in the relatively smaller Tamil market makes the accomplishment even more remarkable. His rise reflects the growing stature of Tamil cinema, even though it is yet to fully explore some of the key markets, including the Hindi belt. With his streak of consecutive blockbusters, he has proven that strong storytelling combined with star power and scale can deliver massive results. ## As he continues to shape the blockbuster Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), along with standalone films with some of India's biggest stars, the young filmmaker is now firmly established as one of the most powerful voices in Indian cinema today. Lokesh's next films promise bigger results with LCU's Kaithi 2, Rolex, and Vikram 2, and a standalone film with Aamir Khan in the pipeline. ## Stay tuned...

50 Years of Superstar Rajinikanth: The Box Office King Who Rewrote Cinema History

Chennai, August 15 - Born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1950, in Bangalore, Rajinikanth's journey to cinematic superstardom is the stuff of legend. Raised in a modest Maharashtrian family, he worked a series of jobs, including as a bus conductor, before his passion for acting led him to the Madras Film Institute in the early 1970s. There, his raw talent and magnetic presence caught the attention of celebrated director K. Balachander, who gave him his debut in Apoorva Raagangal (1975). Though a small role, it announced the arrival of a unique screen presence.## Initially cast in intense, often antagonistic roles, Rajinikanth quickly transformed into a leading man with films like Mullum Malarum (1978) and Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri (1977). By the early 1980s, his charisma, trademark style, and mass connect had turned him into Tamil cinema's biggest draw. Billa (1980) was a turning point, redefining the industry's commercial scale with a gross of over ₹10 crore worldwide among the first Tamil films and introducing the "Superstar" title that has stayed with him ever since.## What followed was an era of dominance that few actors in world cinema can match. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Rajinikanth delivered a string of historic hits, Annamalai (1992), Baashha (1995), and Padayappa (1999), each smashing box office records and running for extraordinary durations. His films weren't just theatrical releases; they were cultural events, celebrated with towering cutouts, dawn shows, and international premieres. Over the decades, Rajinikanth has continually adapted to changing cinematic landscapes, from the record-breaking Chandramukhi (2005) and Sivaji (2007) to the sci-fi spectacle Enthiran (2010), the global blockbuster Kabali (2016), and the mega-hit Jailer (2023). Across generations, his ability to command the box office remains unmatched—a legacy built on charisma, versatility, and an unbreakable bond with his audience. ## During Rajinikanth's Golden Era of the 1990s, the following films stood out not only for their mass appeal but also for the records they set at the box office. Thalapathi (1991), directed by Mani Ratnam and co-starring Mammootty, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, drew inspiration from the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana in the Mahabharata, reimagined in a modern-day gangster backdrop. The film opened to massive box office success in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, enjoying runs of over 200 days in several theatres.## Annamalai (1992) emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of its time, reportedly earning around 12.5 crore, a staggering figure for the early 90s, cementing the Superstar's bankability. Just three years later, Baashha (1995) shattered that record with an unprecedented run of nearly 15 months in theatres, though exact figures remain undocumented in verified public sources. By the decade's close, Padayappa (1999) had taken the crown as Tamil cinema's highest-grossing film of its time, combining record-breaking openings with long-running popularity. These three titles not only ruled the box office but also solidified Rajinikanth's status as a pan-India phenomenon.## ## The wave continued with Muthu (1995), a Diwali release that became a silver-jubilee hit in Tamil Nadu. Its Japanese dub, Muthu: The Dancing Maharaja (1998), grossed about ~US$3.06 million and stood as the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan for 24 years, opening an overseas fanbase few regional stars had enjoyed then. ## 2000s – Crossing the 100 Crore Frontier ## The 2000s marked a new phase in Rajinikanth’s career, where he not only maintained his dominance but also redefined commercial milestones. Chandramukhi (2005) became the longest-running Tamil film in history, with an extraordinary 890+ days in theatres, and significantly boosted its overseas presence. Just two years later, Sivaji: The Boss (2007) created history by becoming the first Tamil film to gross over 100 crore worldwide, setting a new benchmark for budgets, promotions, and box office potential in the industry. This decade firmly established Rajinikanth as a star who could deliver unprecedented numbers while continually expanding Tamil cinema's reach. ## 2010s – Pan-India & Global Stardom ## The 2010s cemented Rajinikanth's stature as a true pan-India and global superstar, with his films achieving unprecedented reach and revenue. Enthiran (2010), a groundbreaking sci-fi spectacle, became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of its time, earning over 291 crore worldwide and setting new technical benchmarks. Kabali (2016) followed with record-smashing pre-release business and a staggering 200+ crore opening weekend globally, proving Rajinikanth's unmatched pull across markets. Then came 2.0 (2018), the most expensive Indian film ever made at 500+ crore, which went on to gross around 700 crore worldwide, further solidifying his position as a box office phenomenon who could command massive budgets and deliver equally massive returns. ## (Worldwide collection)## ## The 2020s showcased Rajinikanth's enduring box office power, proving that even after decades at the top, his star appeal remains unshakable. Annaatthe (2021), released during the pandemic, defied restrictions to emerge as a major Diwali season winner, drawing massive crowds in Tamil Nadu and strong overseas numbers. But it was Jailer (2023) that truly reaffirmed his dominance, grossing over 600 crore worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. With its phenomenal reception in Malaysia, Singapore, and the Gulf, Jailer demonstrated Rajinikanth's unmatched ability to unite audiences across borders. ## Now, Coolie (2025) has already sparked historic pre-release records, from crossing $2 million in North American premiere pre-sales to notching over 100 crore in advance bookings, setting the stage for another monumental box office run and continuing the superstar’s legacy into yet another decade. ## Rajinikanth's box office dominance isn't just about earnings; it's about the cultural experience. From fan rituals and overseas premieres to unprecedented opening-day sales, every release is a festival. His appeal spans generations, languages, and continents-making him a unique figure in Indian cinema history. And with Coolie, the question isn't whether Rajinikanth will break records, it's how many more he'll set. From his humble debut in Apoorva Raagangal to ruling screens across continents, Rajinikanth's journey is more than just a string of blockbusters — it's the story of an icon who became a cultural phenomenon. ## His films have not only shattered box office records but also united audiences across generations, languages, and borders. As the Superstar marks 50 years in cinema, his legacy continues to inspire, proving that true stardom isn't measured by numbers alone, but by the hearts won along the way. And if history has shown us anything, it's that Rajinikanth's reign at the box office is far from over. ## Stay tuned...

Mahavatar Narsimha Beats The Lion King To Become The Highest-Grossing Animated Movie In India

Mumbai, August 11 - There is no stopping Mahavatar Narsimha at the box office as the devotional epic action drama continues to rewrite box office records for an Indian animation film. Directed by Kaleem Productions and Hombale Films, the movie had an excellent third weekend, which saw it cross 200 crores worldwide. ## Directed by Ashwin Kumar, Mahavatar Narsimha is already the highest-grossing Indian animated movie of all time by an uncomparable margin, and now, it has become the highest animated grosser at the Indian box office by beating Disney's The Lion King (2019). ## Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King is a photorealistically animated remake of the traditionally animated 1994 film. It grossed over 190+ crores in India in 2019, a record which has now been broken by the first film in the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe. ## The Indian blockbuster has grossed approximately 202 crores (169+ crores net) in India, while its overseas collection is around 213 crores gross in 17 days so far. Varaha, a mighty boar, rescues Bhudevi (Mother Earth) from the Asura Hiranyaksha. Prahlad, his son and devoted follower of Vishnu, remains faithful despite his father's threats. After collecting around 15.40 crore net (18.50 crore gross) over the first four days, the movie scored an estimated 5.50 crore net (6.50 crore gross) on Tuesday. This pushes the Hindi version's total to 20.50+ crore net and over 24.50 crore gross in 5 days.
