Box Office: 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' Scored A Low Opening Weekend In India

Mumbai, December 25 - Warner Bros. Pictures superhero movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has had a disappointing extended first weekend at the Indian box office. ## The movie was already carrying a low buzz, plus, it was up against Indian heavyweights this Christmas weekend. The only hope for the movie to have some sort of respite was to get positive word of mouth which didn't happen, resulting in a flop start at the box office.## The Jason Momoa-starrer sequel grossed approximately 12.80 crores in India in the first 4-days. The first movie "Aquaman" had grossed approx. 29 crores in its 3-day opening weekend in 2018, but here, "Aquamen 2" is unlikely to reach that mark in its lifetime run. ## Directed by James Wan, the film also had a soft start in its home market, North America, with just $28.1 million (235 crores gross) in the 3-day weekend, including premiers. Outside North America, "Aquaman 2" scored $80 million (665 crores), for $108.10 million (900 crores) globally in the opening weekend. ## China was the biggest market for the film, even bigger than North America, with $31.1 million opening weekend gross. Mexico was the third biggest contributor with $5 million, followed by Indonesia with $3.6 million, and France with $3.2 million. The film carries a budget of over $200 million. ## Stay tuned...

Los Angeles, August 25 - Warner Bros. Pictures is once again pushing back the release dates of its most-awaited sequels to Aquaman and Shazam! in another major development at the studio within a month. ## Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the highly-anticipated superhero sequel, directed by James Wan, has been pushed to Chrismas 2023 from March 17, 2023. The new release date is exactly one year later than the original release date of "Aquaman 2" in 2022. ## The sequel to a $1+ billion grosser movie will see the return of Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, as well as Patrick Wilson's Orm Marius and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta. It was recently revealed that Ben Affleck's Batman will also return for Aquaman 2.## Meanwhile, Shazam! A Live Action Disney Plus Series About 'King Kong' Is In Development

Los Angeles, August 24 - Disney Plus reportedly has set a live-action series about the origin of "King Kong". ## According to Variety, the series would be based on the original "King Kong" written by Merian C. Cooper as well as new novelizations by artist Joe DeVito produced in conjunction with Cooper's estate. It would be a serialized drama that would explore Kong's origins as well as the mysteries of his home, Skull Island. ## Variety further reports that Stephany Folsom, who developed the Amazon series "Paper Girls" for television, will write and executive produce the King Kong show with James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett will also executive produce on behalf of Atomic Monster along with Dannie Festa for World Builder Entertainment.## The original "King Kong" film was released in 1933 and became an instant hit. The character has been used in numerous films to date, most recently in the Legendary-Warner Bros. "Godzilla vs. Kong". Netflix also has the "Skull Island" anime series on the way.## This marks the second live-action show about iconic movie monsters. Apple is currently prepping a series about Godzilla and the Titans, with Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell recently announced as stars. The Warner Bros film, directed by Patty Jenkins, comes with the tag line "A new era of wonder begins".## Jenkins is also praying for things to get better for all.## "We made ‘Wonder Woman 1984' for the big screen and I believe in the power of cinema. In these terrible times, when theater owners are struggling as so many are, we are excited to re-date our film to August 14th, 2020 in a theater near you, and pray for better times for all by then," Jenkins posted.## Along with "Wonder Woman 1984", Warner Bros. has also indefinitely pulled "In the Heights", an adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical that was due out June 26, and "Scoob" -- an animated film based on "Scooby-Doo" characters, set for May 15, reports variety.com.## "Malignant", a thriller from "Aquaman" director James Wan, was originally scheduled to open on August 14. It will be rescheduled to make way for "Wonder Woman 1984".## "When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,' it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on August 14," Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros.
