Box Office: Dwayne Johnson's 'Black Adam' To Face Theatrical Losses

Los Angeles, December 6 - One of the biggest movie stars in the world, Dwayne Johnson's superhero debut with DC's Black Adam couldn't bring fruitful results at the box office, despite grossing approx. $387 million worldwide. ## Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the superhero movie will end up facing losses of $50 million to $100 million in its theatrical run, according to Variety. Though the box office numbers of "Black Adam" are no less knowing how things have gone post the covid-19 pandemic, it is the budget and marketing cost that proving to be a big hurdle for the movie to turn a profit.## The Warner Bros. film was made on a budget of approx. $195 million, making it one of the costliest movies ever made, while it additionally cost $80 million to $100 million on marketing. The report says that the movie needed to do a business of around $600 million worldwide to break even and turn into a profitable venture for the studio, which is unlikely to happen. ## However, according to Warner Bros. sources (via Variety), the movie will break even at $400 million. When the film was commissioned, the break-even was believed to be $450 million, but that figure has dropped given the particularities of the new home entertainment landscape, one in which "Black Adam" has over-performed projections. ## Despite all the above figures and projections, "Black Adam" won't be a profitable venture for Warner Bros. which had high hopes for the movie. Box Office: 'Black Adam' Overcome Industry Projection To Take Biggest Opening For Dwayne Johnson As Lead Actor

Los Angeles, October 23 - Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson's superhero debut with DCEU's Black Adam brings a pleasant surprise at the box office, especially after the poor reception it got from critics. ## The film opened at number 1 at the domestic (North American) box office with $67 million in the opening weekend, the biggest-ever debut for Johnson's career as the lead hero. The movie overcome the revised industry projection of $60 million after critics' reviews. ## As per Variety, the opening of "Black Adam" being a superhero movie isn't earth-shattering but definitely a strong knowing it is a spin-off of "Shazam!" which opened at $53.5 million in 2019. "Black Adam" is also the first Hollywood movie since "Thor: Love And Thunder" in July 2022 to open over $50 million domestically. ## For a DC movie, "Black Adam" takes the second biggest opening in the post-pandemic-era after "The Batman's" $134 million in March 2022. Mumbai, June 9 - Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson unveiled the first full-length trailer of his highly-awaited DC superhero film, "Black Adam" on Wednesday. The film is intended to be a spin-off from Shazam! (2019) and the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). ## Ahead of the trailer launch, Warner Bros. revealed the official synopsis for "Black Adam" and hints at what the movie is all about. ## "Nearly 5,000 years after receiving the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods and being imprisoned just as quickly, Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world", reads the official premise of the film. ## As per the DC Comics, Black Adam is one of the archenemies of the superhero Shazam and the nemesis of the Shazam Family. Box Office: Disney's Domestic Blockbuster 'Jungle Cruise' Flops In China After Delayed Release

Los Angeles, November 16 - Disney Studios' "Jungle Cruise" has failed to attract Chinese audiences at the box office after a delayed release in the country. Starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, the family-friendly adventure film was released in China over the past weekend (Nov. 12) and could generate only $3.3 million in the first three days (Fri-Sun). ## "Jungle Cruise" had reportedly cost Disney around $200 million for the production. It was released in the US on July 30, simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+. It earned over $35 million at the domestic box office and estimated $30 million on Disney+ Premier Access in its first three days. Currently, it has earned over $215 million worldwide at the box office. ## The film, however, received positive word of mouth from Chinese audiences who watched the film in theaters. However, the rampant piracy, and a limited marketing effort from Disney in the "Fast & Furious" franchise-loving country, played a big part in the movie not performing well in China. ## "Jungle Cruises" scored 8.9 on Maoyan and 6.1 on Douban, similar to MGM's James Bond installment No Time to Die. While "No Time To Die" has earned $58 million so far in China after $4.4 million in its 4th weekend, Disney's film has been projected to earn a total of just $6.19 million, according to the Maoyan estimates.## A sequel to "Jungle Cruise" has been greenlit at Disney, for which, the announcement was made when the original film grossed $100 million at the North America box office.
