Producer Jon Landau Hints At The Sequel To 'Alita: Battle Angel'

Los Angeles, April 27 - 20th Century Studios seems to be getting inspired by the huge box office success of Avatar: The Way of Water as producer Jon Landau has teased another long-awaited sequel to 2019' Alita: Battle Angel. ## From the screenplay by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, "Alita: Battle Angel", a cyberpunk action film based on Yukito Kishiro's manga series Gunnm, was released in 2019 and grossed over $400 million worldwide. It followed the titular cyborg as she discovered the truth about her identity, her friends, and the people who run the city she lives in. ## The movie ended on a cliffhanger, setting up the stage for a potential sequel. However, 20th Century Studios didn't seem too interested in the sequel, but the dedicated fans have been voicing for "Alita 2" to know the rest of the story.## Amid the continued demand, producer Jon Landau has finally provided good news regarding the sequel and said that the talks are happening for quite some time now. During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, the "Avatar" producer confirmed that "We're working on it".## "I think what we've learned from Avatar is how much more facial nuance and subtlety that we can get into characters that we want to be emotional and emote that are humanoid. Alita would not have been possible, but for what we did on Avatar. Avatar: Way of Water would not be what it is but what we did for Alita. And now let's put that back and give it back to Alita. We're talking to (director) Robert (Rodriguez) and talking to Rosa (Salazar) and all is good".## Christopher Waltz, who played Altia's father figure, Dr. Dyson Ido, has also expressed an interest in returning for Alita 2. With the original movie's stars, director, and key producers actively interested in continuing Alita's story, the sequel seems to be more than ready to roll out soon. ## Stay tuned...

Avatar: The Way of Water Tracking For $170 Million Opening In North America

Los Angeles, November 26 - The long-awaited sequel to James Cameron's "Avatar" - Avatar: The Way of Water is set for more than the double opening of the first film at the domestic (North America) box office. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi epic is tracking at least $150 million - $170 million in the opening weekend in North America. These are conservative estimates and may go higher. The first "Avatar" movie, released in 2009, opened to $77 million and later enjoyed extraordinary legs to project a $785 million lifetime total (re-release included).## One of the reasons for the conservative opening weekend projections of "Avatar: The Way of Water" is that it is 30 minutes longer than the first movie with a runtime of 3 hours and 10 minutes, meaning the sequel will have fewer showtimes per day.## "Avatar 2" is not the only Hollywood movie with longer runtime. The second and third highest-grossing movies of all time, "Avengers: Endgame" ($2.79 billion) and Cameron's "Titanic" ($2.2 billion) are more than 3 hours long. As reported earlier, "Avatar 2" is eyeing a minimum $2 billion worldwide gross collection in its lifetime run. ## Produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, and distributed by Disney, "Avatar 2" stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang, among others in key roles. The movie is scheduled to release on December 16 in over 100 languages worldwide in multiple formats.## Stay tuned...

The filmmaker wasn't present at D23 in person but did send in a video for attendees to offer updates on the upcoming Avatar sequels. ## Cameron's long-awaited "Avatar: The Way of Water" closed out the Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century panel at the D23 Expo Saturday by handing out 3-D glasses to everyone in the audience and showing off six extended scenes from the movie, scheduled to release in December this year. The post-production continues on "Avatar 2". ## Coming 13 years after the release of the original film, "Avatar 2" focuses on the oceans of Pandora, as new performance capture technology has been developed specifically for Cameron to shoot scenes underwater. Many of the film's cast had to learn how to free dive and hold their breath underwater to be able to perform their necessary scenes.## The new footage of "Avatar 2" was shown at the D23 Expo and hailed as a pure visual treat, including the best showcase for the underwater work, in which several younger Na'vi jump into a coral reef and swim around hundreds of vividly rendered aquatic wildlife.## 20th Century Studios produced the film, with Cameron and Jon Landau producing on a budget of about $250 million, according to Variety. Three more films for the franchise are currently in development, with release dates set for 2024, 2026, and 2028.## Stay tuned...

Producer Jon Landau Reveals A Major Plot Detail Of Avatar 2

Mumbai, December 9 - The sequel to the highest-grossing film of all-time "Avatar" is nearly upon us after almost 13 years. It has been a long wait for the fans to experience the next chapter of this sci-fi epic and the world of Pandora. ## A sequel to a blockbuster film doesn't often take too much time to get on the floors. However, in the case of "Avatar", a lot of time was down to writing not one but four scripts for the planned series of sequels up to Avatar 5. Producer Jon Landau told Total Film magazine as part of its huge 2022 preview that "The scripts are the blueprint from which we work". ## "So a large portion of our time was writing, with the challenge that each of those four scripts had to individually resolve itself in a story that concludes with a big emotional resolution – but when you look at them as a whole, the connected story arc of all four movies creates an even larger epic saga", he added. ## Meanwhile, the producer further revealed some of the first "Avatar 2" plot details. He revealed that Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are now parents. James Cameron, who returns as director, has specifically written the script of "Avatar 2" taking the Sully family at the center stage. ## "I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim [Cameron] always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre. And if you think about this, there's really no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?" explains Landau. ## The Sullys' idyllic life is disrupted when the RDA mining operation returns to Pandora, forcing Jake to take the family to "what is perceived as a safe harbor" at the reef. "And when you get to the reef, there's a clan we call the Metkayina", continues Landau. "The Sullys are no longer in the environment that they know, the rainforest. They become the fish out of water. They become the fish out of the water both culturally and just environmentally".## The sequel stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald, reprising their roles from the original film, with Sigourney Weaver returning in a different role. New cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones.## "Avatar 2" is slated for December 16, 2022, release and the next three sequels have been planned for 2024, 2026, and 2028. ## Stay tuned...
