Ranveer Singh's '83' Crosses 'Jai Ho', 'Housefull 2 & 3', And More At The Worldwide Box Office

Mumbai, February 7 - Ranveer Singh-starrer cricket biopic, "83", has been struggling big at the Indian box office. The Kabir Khan-directed grossed approx Rs. 1.50 crores in its 7th weekend, pushing total domestic haul to Rs. 125 crores. ## The domestic box office of "83" is poor considering the fact that the movie cost over Rs. 220 crores in production. Overseas, "83" is the biggest Indian movie, released during the covid-19 pandemic. After 45 days, it has grossed approx Rs. 64 crores. The total worldwide gross for the film currently stands at Rs. 189 crores. ## Produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment, "83" may be a disappointing outing, it has still surpassed many Bollywood biggies at the worldwide box office. Ranveer Singh Likes To Turn Challenges Into Canvas For His Characters

Mumbai, Jan 11 (IANS) Bollywood star Ranveer Singh derives inspiration from challenges that push him to do better. Whenever he gets offered a daunting character, he does get rattled and nervous but the actor doesn't let himself get bogged down by the challenge.## Instead, he uses nervous energy to sketch characters that connect with the audience at large.## Commenting on the same, the actor says, "I like daunting challenges. I feel daunted when they are pitched or presented to me. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali comes with Alauddin Khilji or Kabir Khan comes with Kapil Dev or Rohit Shetty with a full-blown masala character like 'Simmba', initially, I do get rattled, I do get daunted and feel nervous".## He continues, "But it's nervous energy. I learnt from Kris Srikkanth, who I have had the good fortune to spend time with during the '83' movie promotions. He told me its energy - it cannot be created or destroyed, it can be transmitted, transformed. So, I take this nervousness and I channel it into the energy that I use to pursue this path of transformation. It's those challenges that excite me and I embrace them fully".## He further says, "Kapil Dev has such a distinctive persona, body language, way of talking, it's a huge challenge but I was up to it and was excited about it. The movie is currently playing in theaters and in the second week of its box office run.## There were speculations that just like most of the films of 2021, "83" will also be premiered on OTT after 28 days of its theatrical run. Ranveer Singh Reveals He Was Approached For The Hindi Remake Of SS Rajamouli's 'Magadheera'

Mumbai, January 1 - Bollywood star Ranveer Singh is winning accolades for the portrayal of the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in the recently released "83" film. The Kabir Khan-directed, which is based on India's maiden ODI world cup triumph in 1983, is currently playing in theaters and nearing Rs. 150 crores at the worldwide box office. ## Ranveer Singh is one of the young Bollywood actors who has worked with some of the finest Bollywood directors in his little over a decade-long career. The 36-year old actor, however, has a desire to work with South Indian filmmakers and is fascinated by Southern films. He named some of his most favorite South Indian films - Mahanati, Super Deluxe, Kumbalangi Nights, Magadheera, among others. ## The "Padmaavat" actor in an interview with Film Companion revealed that he was approached for the Hindi remake of SS Rajamouli's blockbuster "Magadheera", starring Ram Charan in the lead role. While he didn't name the filmmaker he was approached by, Ranveer said that the filmmaker tried to remake Magadheera with him, but things didn't work out. ## "I wanted to do Magadheera for the longest time. Reincarnation is my jam! Magadheera has just such a cinematic flair. Somebody was trying to remake it with me. They gave me a VCD of Magadheera. Watching it in my room alone in the early hours one morning and I was crying and clapping. It's three in the morning and I’m alone in bed watching it on my television screen", said Ranveer. ## "That's the setting and I still find myself reacting so much to it. It was, at the time, one of the best cinematic experiences. I would have loved for the Magadheera remake to have worked out, but it didn't. But never say never. I am very interested in doing something with the reincarnation theme", he added. ## Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh will be teaming up with "Robot" director Shankar with the Hindi remake of "Anniyan". It will also feature Kiara Advani as the female lead and will be produced by Pen Studios and co-produced by God Bless Entertainment. The movie will go on floors in the second half of 2022. ## Apart from the "Anniyan" remake, Ranveer currently has three films in the pipeline. '83' Gets Thumbs Up From Rajinikanth, Calls It 'Magnificent'

Chennai, Dec 28 (IANS) Megastar Rajinikanth is the latest to join the list of people who have lavished praise on the recently released cricket epic '83', which showcases the journey of India's triumph at the 1983 World Cup.## Rajinikanth, who took to Twitter to share his opinion about the film, said, "#83TheMovie wow what a movie… magnificent!!! Many congratulations to the producers".## The actor also tagged director Kabir Khan, cricket icon Kapil Dev, actor Ranveer Singh, and Tamil actor Jiiva, who plays cricketer Srikkanth in the film.## This apart, Rajinikanth also congratulated the entire cast and crew of the film. Saqib Saleem: Depicting Their Mannerisms Without Mocking Cricketers Was A Tightrope Walk

Mumbai, Dec 27 (IANS) Bollywood actor Saqib Saleem, who played the character of cricketer Mohinder Amarnath in '83', says getting the mannerisms and body language of the cricket star right without mocking him was quite a thin line that he had to maintain.## In conversation with IANS, Saqib shares, "When we were starting the film, Kabir told us that every actor has to become them instead of pretending to act like them. So, for me, it was like imbibing Jimmy sir's body language where I was holding the very essence of how he would move his shoulders, walk on the field, etc.## "We cannot change that because those are their signature body language that the world has seen...we can see it on all the footage that are available online. But for me, it was a tight rope to walk where we did those mannerisms without mocking them".## "Since we were preparing for a year, the body language became my second nature, it was not looking like mocking anymore eventually", he added.## As the film is based on the victory of the Indian cricket team that won the World Cup 1983 led by Kapil Dev, the actor shared how it was a moment of nostalgia to watch the film with his father Saleem Qureshi.## Drawing a parallel between real and reel life Saqib said, "You know my father is a huge fan of Mohinder Amarnath. So for me, it was one of those special films where I wanted to impress my father and I wanted him to feel proud of me for my acting. Quite interestingly, Jimmy sir during the World Cup also was trying to impress his father Lalaji with his performance.## "Yes, he came from a privileged background but he was a most responsible and humble man who understood the duty of being the son of an iconic cricketer like Lala Amarnath. He was trying to prove how deserving he is to be an Amarnath".## Lala Amarnath was the first cricket captain of independent India. He was also the first batsman to score a century in Test cricket for India. Mohindar Amarnath is the son of Lala Amarnath.## Asked about what was his understanding of Mohindar as a personality and Saqib shared, "I asked him that when he used to face the fast bowling of West Indies cricket greats like Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts, what was going on in his head? Jimmy sir laughed and replied, 'Beta uss time pe agar zyada dimaag chalate na, to ball saar pe lag ke wahin khatam ho jaate...we were just doing our basics right.
