Mohanlal's 'Malaikottai Vaaliban' Set To Open Big At The Box Office

Kochi, January 23 - Malayalam superstar Mohanlal must be on cloud nine after scoring a big blockbuster success at the box office in the form of courtroom drama "Neru". Jeetu Joseph's directorial movie grossed over 85 crores at the worldwide box office while total business including OTT and satellite is over 100 crores. ## After Neru, Mohanlal could score another big commercial success in under two months with his upcoming period action drama Malaikottai Vaaliban, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The movie is seen as a potential blockbuster by the Malayalam trade and as far as the opening is concerned, the movie is set for a big start. ## The bookings for Malaikottai Vaaliban are pretty good at around 2.60 crores gross (including block seats) for the opening day, which is one of the biggest for a Malayalam title. With still more than a day left for the release, the pre-sales of the movie should easily finish over 3 crores for the opening day. ## The pre-sales trend is good enough for the movie to open with 5+ crores gross at the domestic box office. In fact, this is the highest advance for a Mohanlal movie in recent times, so that is a positive sign for the film and if it gets a positive reception, then it can emerge as one of the biggest Malayalam hits ever. ## The film is jointly produced by John & Mary Creative, Century Films, Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments, and Yoodlee Films, along with Amen Movie Monastery. Kochi, January 17 - Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is basking on the big blockbuster success of his courtroom drama film "Neru", and now in little over one month, the actor is gearing up for his next theatrical release in the form of Malaikottai Vaaliban, scheduled for January 25. ## The period action drama, directed by "Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam" and "Jallikkattu" fame Lijo Jose Pellissery, is easily one of the biggest Malayalam films of all time and in an exciting development, the movie is getting ready to release in two parts.## According to a report by Cinema Express, the "Malaikottai Vaaliban" story will be completed in two parts, keeping the open climax in the first one. Kochi, August 20 - Malayalam superstar Mohanlal finally has confirmed the release date of his long-awaited fantasy "Barroz". The film is directed by Mohanlal who is also playing the main role in the movie that is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. ## "Barroz", which is based on Jijo Punnoose's novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure, will be hitting worldwide cinemas on December 21, 2023, during the Christmas week. The movie will reportedly be released in over 60 countries. ## The story of Barroz revolves around a 400-year-old spirit who is assigned to guard D'Gama's treasure which can be handed over to D'Gama's true descendant. Basil Joseph's idea of filmmaking is to evolve and challenge himself

Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS) Filmmaker Basil Joseph's filmmaking process involves exploring and learning new things at every step. ## The 'Minnal Murali' director believes in making constant additions to his repository of skillset. ## Basil says: "I always try to learn new things and to upskill. You cannot just stand somewhere and make movies with that limited knowledge. I am someone who didn't have a lot of exposure before coming into movies. I come from a very conservative family, I started watching movies only after I got into movies. I stand in an industry where my peers are so intelligent and excellent in terms of their knowledge, craft and skills about movies." ## Defining Malayalam cinema as a competitive space, he says: "It is a very competitive Industry because Malayalam cinema is now known everywhere and they are creating content every week which is working out around India. It's a very constructive competition which goes on. ## "When I look upto my peers, I see Dileesh Pothan, Mahesh Narayanan, Sameer Thahir, Shyju Khalid, Shyam Pushkaran, Lijo Jose Pellissery, for me to be there, it's imperative for me to constantly evolve." ## Breaking down the climax of the film in technical terms, he shares: "For our climax shoot, our action director, Vlad Rimberg conceived the action sequence without much use of ropes, cranes or a lot of props. We depended a lot on shot division and edits." ## He lauds his crew for believing in the shared vision and working to the best of their potential. ## "All the crew has come up together to give an extra effort to make it look grounded within the budget so that it looks real." ## "The art director, Manu Jagadh; the cinematographer, Sameer Thahir and even VFX supervisor, Andrew came up with the idea which make it look real and practical. The Sayani Gupta-starrer, Shameless, by writer-director Keith Gomes is the official Indian entry in the Live Action Short Film category at the 93rd Oscars, to be held next year in April. The 15-minute film is a black comedy thriller that beat short films including Vidya Balan's Natkhat in the Oscars entry race.## Co-starring Hussain Dalal and Rishabh Kapoor, Shameless revolves around the theme of loss of human spirit due to technology, while it also attempts to raise relevant questions on issues of entitlement, humanity, and empathy toward the migrant class.## "My experience on 'Shameless' was fantastic and now we submitting to the Oscars, it's a wow! Keith is wonderful as a director and very gentle with his actors and crew. Hussain, of course, is a great friend, and it was a ball working with him. We have a silent communication and understanding when it comes to improvisations etc," said Sayani Gupta to India TV.## "I observe human behavior and love telling stories about the human spirit. Lijo Jose Pellissery's Malayalam Movie 'Jallikattu' is India's Official Entry in The 2020 Oscars

The Film Federation of India has selected Lijo Jose Pellissery's Malayalam movie "Jallikattu" as the country's official representative in the 93rd Academy Awards' best international feature category. A 14-member committee of the FDI, that picks the Indian nominee every year, made the announcement on Wednesday.## Jallikattu has been a festival favorite around the world having played at Toronto, London, Busan, and Stockholm in 2019 and at Rotterdam in 2020. Pellissery won the best director at the International Film Festival of India, Goa in 2019.## The story of the film revolves around a tamed buffalo that escapes from a slaughterhouse in a hilly remote village of Kerala's Idduki district.
