IMDb Unveils Top 10 Most Popular Indian Movies of 2025 Till July 1st

Mumbai, July 9 - The half of the year has been completed, and IMDb has unveiled the list of the top 10 most popular Indian movies of 2025 so far. The list includes films released between January 1, 2025 and July 1, 2025, that have an average IMDb user rating of 6 or higher with at least 10,000 votes. ## Determined by the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide, all the top 10 popular films had a theatrical release. Of the top 10 titles, six are Bollywood films, followed by three Tamil films, and one Malayalam movie. ## 1. Chhaava (Hindi) - Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, the historical action drama features Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna in the leading roles. It is currently the highest-grossing Indian film with over 800 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office. ## 2. Dragon (Tamil) - Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dragon is a coming-of-age comedy-drama released on February 21, 2025. It is the second-highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year so far, with over 150 crores worldwide collection. ## 3. Deva (Hindi) - The action thriller film, despite underperforming at the box office, remained one of the most popular Indian movies on IMDb. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the movie stars Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde in the leading roles. It grossed around 56 crores worldwide. ## 4. Raid 2 (Hindi) - The crime action thriller, directed by Rajkumar Gupta and starring Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and Vaani Kapoor, is one of the most successful Indian films of the year. The film delivered robust box office numbers, solidifying its success with over 200 cr in domestic gross and earnings of around 237 cr worldwide. ## 5. Retro (Tamil) - The romantic action thriller, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, was one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year, but it underperformed at the box office, despite grossing close to 100 crores worldwide. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro is among the most popular Indian titles of the year. ## 6. The Diplomat (Hindi) - John Abraham headlines this political thriller inspired by real events. Directed by Shivam Nair, the film was a decent success at the global box office, grossing over 50 crores gross collection in its full run. ## 7. L2: Empuraan (Malayalam) - The Mohanlal-starrer political action thriller, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was the most anticipated Malayalam movie of the year, and delivered box office performance accordingly by emerging as the biggest Malayalam grosser of all-time, with a worldwide collection of over 265 crores gross. The controversy helped the film perform in its home state, Kerala, where it grossed around 90 crores. ## 8. Sitaare Zameen Par (Hindi) - This comedy drama marked a comeback for superstar Aamir Khan by delivering at the box office. Directed by RS Prasanna, SZP is only the second movie of Aamir in the post-COVID-19 era, and it timely scored success for the actor, grossing over 235 crores worldwide (19 days) and is still playing in theatres. ## 9. Kesari Chapter 2 (Hindi) - Easily one of the best films of the year, this biographical drama, starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Pandey, and R. Madhavan, won everyone's heart with its emotional subject, strong performance, and technical brilliance. Ajith Kumar's 'Vidaamuyarchi' Trailer And Release Date Update

Chennai, January 15 - Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar's long-awaited action thriller Vidaamuyarchi is gearing up for the release. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the movie was announced in May 2023 by Lyca Productions and since then, it has been in intense production. ## The movie was originally announced for Diwali 2024 release, before getting postponed to December and then Pongal 2025. It was again pushed back and there were reports that it would be released during the Republic Day weekend. But there is another change in the plan. ## On Wednesday, Lyca took to social media to announce that the Vidaamuyarchi trailer would be launched on January 16, and according to reliable Tamil media reports, the film will hit the big screens on February 6 in multiple languages. The official announcement of the release date will be made with the trailer. ## The film is reportedly based on the 1997 Jonathan Mostow's directorial Breakdown. It follows a husband who is on the search for his wife, who went missing during their vacation to Azerbaijan. Ajith Kumar's 'Vidaa Muyarchi' To Release In December 2024

Chennai, September 16 - Tamil star Ajith Kumar has two films in the pipeline in the form of action thriller Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni and an action comedy Good Bad Ugly with director Adhik Ravichandran. ## As already announced, Good Bad Ugly is eyeing the Pongal 2025 release, however, there might be some changes regarding the same. During the SIIMA awards ceremony, actor Arjun Sarja shared that Vidaa Muyarchi will be released in December 2024.## Arjun, who is playing a prominent role in this Lyca Productions venture, said that he has completed the climax fight scene and the makers will be releasing the film in 2-3 months around December this year. Netflix Announces Post-Theatrical Streaming Slate of Upcoming Tamil Films

Mumbai, January 17 - Netflix has been on an announcement spree regarding the post-theatrical streaming slate of South Indian films. The streamer recently announced several Telugu films which will stream on its platform after their theatrical run and now, it has announced Tamil titles. ## One of the biggest Tamil films to stream on Netflix after its theatrical release is superstar Ajith Kumar's VidaaMuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni and produced by Lyca Productions. The theatrical release of the film is yet to be announced but it is expected to release either Diwali this year or Sankranthi 2025. It will stream in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. ## Netflix also has Lyca's Indian 2, starring legendary Kamal Haasan and directed by Shankar. A sequel to the 1996 blockbuster "Indian", it is easily one of the Tamil films of the year, scheduled to release during summer. It will be available to stream on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, post its theatrical release. ## Chiyaan Vikram's period action drama Thangalaan, directed by directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Studio Green, is also grabbed by Netflix. The movie is announced for theatrical release in April 2024. Sony Pictures International Production's debut in Tamil cinema, tentatively titled SK21, also produced by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, is also part of the Netflix lineup. ## Among the other films, Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja directed by Nithilan Saminathan along with Keerthy Suresh-led Passion Film Factory and The Route's Revolver Rita directed by K. Chandru, Dream Warrior Pictures’ Kannivedi, SNS Productions' Sorgavaasal, and AGS Entertainment's Conjuring Kannappan is also part of Netflix's line-up. ## The unreleased films will debut on Netflix after their theatrical releases. Aditya Roy Kapur To Replace Sidharth Malhotra In The Thadam Hindi Remake?

Mumbai, April 23, 2021: Last year, on March 4, Kabir Singh producer Murad Khetani announced his next project in association with Bhushan Kumar of T-Series. The Hindi remake of the Tamil movie, Thadam was announced with a release date of 20th November 2020. However, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the movie couldn't go on floors as scheduled in May.## The film that was supposed to be headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and Mrunal Thakur finally went on floors in November last year with major changes. However, earlier this year, Sidharth did object to the new screenplay which resulted in, the actor opted out of the movie that put a brake on the further proceedings. ## Now, the remake of Thadam is back on track again as makers have reportedly locked Aditya Roy Kapur to play the lead. "Aditya Roy Kapur has been locked in to play the hero now. It's an action-packed film which will have double roles. This will also be Aditya's first double role ever. When Sid opted out, they were on the lookout for a good-looking hero who's fantastic with action. Apart from Adi, Mrunal remains part of the cast", said a source. ## Aditya Roy Kapur is currently busy filming for his next, Om - The Battle Within, with producer Ahmed Khan.
