Mumbai, September 23 - Aamir Khan's production venture Laapataa Ladies has been picked as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025, the Film Federation of India announced on Monday. ## The comedy-drama film, directed by Kiran Rao, tells the story of two young newly-wed brides who get exchanged during a train ride to their husband's homes. It stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan, in key roles.## Laapataa Ladies was released on March 1st this year amid positive critical reception. The movie did decently at the box office, grossing approximately 27.50 crores worldwide before emerging as a big success on streaming with over 17 million views.## The 13-member select committee headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua unanimously decided on Laapataa Ladies as India's Oscars 2025 entry. Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, and Karan Johar Among Others Invited to Join Film Academy As Members

Los Angeles, June 29 - Indian stars Jr. NTR and Ram Charan along with filmmakers Karan Johar, Mani Ratnam, and Siddharth Roy Kapur, are among the 398 artists and executives from around the world who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year, the Oscar-dispensing organization announced Wednesday. ## If all of this year's invitees accept membership, it will bring the total number of overall Academy members to 10,817 (up from 10,665 last year), with 9,375 eligible to vote (a decrease from 9,665 due to deaths, retirements, and moving to emeritus status) for the 96th Oscars, set to take place on March 10, 2024, according to Variety.## "RRR" stars, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan get an invitation in the actors' category while Karan Johar and Siddharth Roy Kapur have been named in the producers' category whereas Mani Ratnam's name is mentioned amongst the directors. Ram Charan Opens Up On 'RRR' Not Getting Picked For Oscars 2023 By Indian Jury

Hyderabad, February 11 - The Film Federation of India (FFI) left everyone stunned when it picked the Gujarati movie "The Chhello Show" (Last Film Show) as India's official entry for Oscars 2023, over SS Rajamouli's "RRR" which has been winning accolades internationally and getting wide recognition. ## "Last Film Show" though did receive critical acclaim but failed to score nominations in the Best International Feature Film category which further widened the criticism for FFI for not picking "RRR". Meanwhile, Ram Charan, who plays the role of Ramaraju in the film, finally reacts to the decision. ## During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ram Charan said that he was not entirely surprised by the decision but was a little disappointed that the movie was not picked.## "I really don't understand the process of selection. Directed by Pan Nalin, the movie will now be competing with 14 other films in the international feature film category to grab a place in the top 5 films, which will be announced on January 24.## The 'Naatu Naatu' song from "RRR" has been shortlisted in the original song category, becoming the first-ever Indian song ever to be shortlisted for the Academy Awards.
