Producer Reacts To Akshaye Khanna's Exit From Drishyam 3 and Confirms His Replacement

Mumbai, December 27 - Akshaye Khanna, who has been riding on the success of Dhurandhar, gave a major shock to the makers of the upcoming suspense thriller Drishyam 3 by exiting the film at the last moment. It was reported that the actor demanded high remuneration, among others, which wasn't met and eventually led the actor to exit the film. Now, Drishyam 3's producer Kumar Mangat Pathak has reacted to the news, and he has blasted Akshaye Khanna for his unprofessional behaviour. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, the producer revealed what went on behind the scenes, accusing the actor of making unreasonable demands and stating that he plans to sue him. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) "We had signed an agreement with Akshaye Khanna. His fees also got locked after a lot of renegotiations from his side. He insisted that he would like to wear a wig. But (director) Abhishek Pathak convinced him that it wouldn't be practical, as it would result in continuity issues since Drishyam 3 is a sequel. He understood his point and agreed to let go of that demand. However, the chamchas around him advised him that he would look smarter if he donned a wig. So, he again requested the same. Abhishek relented and was even ready to discuss this point with him. But then, he informed us that he doesn't want to be a part of the film at all", the producer told the portal. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Kumar Mangat Pathak further said that he gave Akshaye a chance in Article 375 (2019) and then Drishyam 2 (2022). He said that the actor was nothing before those films, but started getting big projects after the second instalment of the Ajay Devgn-led franchise. He even said that Akshaye liked the script of Drishyam 3 and confidently said that it is a 500 crore film, and signed the film and took the advances, but 10 days before the shoot commenced, he left the movie. The filmmaker also confirmed the casting of Jaideep Ahlawat, who has replaced Akshaye Khanna. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the movie also stars Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, and Rajat Kapoor in key roles. It is scheduled to release on October 2, 2026. Stay tuned...

Jaideep Ahlawat Joins Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 After Akshaye Khanna's Reported Exit; Details Inside

The Drishyam franchise, one of the most successful suspense thriller series in Indian cinema, is currently the talk of the town as it gears up for its third installment. While fans were recently treated to the official release date announcement, the film has now hit the headlines for a major casting shuffle. According to the latest industry reports, power house performer Jaideep Ahlawat has officially joined the cast of Drishyam 3 and will play a character that introduces a significant new twist to the investigative trail. While some speculated he might be replacing Akshaye Khanna (who played IG Tarun Ahlawat in Drishyam 2), sources suggest Jaideep's role is a fresh addition designed to raise the stakes for Vijay Salgaonkar. The Paatal Lok star is set to play a pivotal and extremely exciting role that is expected to bring a fresh layer of intensity to the cat and mouse chase between Vijay Salgaonkar and the authorities. Following his massive success in projects like Jaane Jaan and Dhurandhar, Jaideep Ahlawat's inclusion is being seen as a major boost to the project.Reports suggest that Jaideep will begin shooting for the film in January 2026.While details about his character remain under wraps, sources indicate that he will share significant screen space with Ajay Devgn and Tabu, marking their first-ever collaboration. Global Expansion of the Brand The Drishyam IP has officially gone global. Panorama Studios recently confirmed that the franchise is being remade in English (Hollywood) and Korean, making it the first Indian film franchise to achieve such a feat. The success of these international deals has added further prestige to the upcoming third part in India. Drishyam 3 is being touted as the final chapter of the Salgaonkar family's saga.Ajay Devgn will return as the mastermind Vijay Salgaonkar, while Tabu reprises her role as Meera Deshmukh.Other returning cast members include Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Rajat Kapoor. The film is produced by Panorama Studios and directed by Abhishek Pathak. In a strategic move to prevent spoilers, the makers are reportedly planning a simultaneous release of both the Hindi version and the original Malayalam version starring Mohanlal.

MAJOR UPDATE: Akshaye Khanna Exits Drishyam 3. Success of Dhurandhar Triggers Massive Fee Hike and Creative Stand-Off

In a development that has sent shockwaves through the trade circuits, Akshaye Khanna has reportedly exited the highly anticipated franchise sequel, Drishyam 3. While the Drishyam series is known for its intricate plot twists on screen, the drama behind the scenes is currently grabbing all the headlines. According to reports (Source: BH), the primary reason for this departure is a significant disagreement over remuneration and specific creative preferences. Akshaye Khanna, who received immense acclaim and a massive box office boost following his pivotal role in the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar, has reportedly seen his market value skyrocket. Coming off the back of Dhurandhar's record-breaking run, the actor reportedly revised his acting fee to ₹21 Crore for Drishyam 3. Trade sources suggest that the makers (Panorama Studios and Viacom18 Studios) felt the revised fee would push the film's production budget beyond a sustainable limit. While Khanna's performance as IG Tarun Ahlawat in Drishyam 2 was a major highlight, the production team reportedly could not meet the new financial requirements. Beyond the financial aspects, the report indicates that additional creative differences surfaced during pre-production. A specific point of contention was Akshaye Khanna's request to wear a wig for his character in the third installment. The directorial and creative team was reportedly uncomfortable with this change, preferring to maintain the continuity of the character's look established in the previous film. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With Akshaye Khanna's reported exit, the hunt for a new antagonist or a replacement for the investigative officer's role is likely to begin soon. As of now, the confirmed primary cast remains: Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar,Tabu as Meera Deshmukh,Shriya Saran as Nandini Salgaonkarand Rajat Kapoor as Mahesh Deshmukh Drishyam 2 was a humongous success at the domestic box office, netting over ₹240 Crore in India and providing a much-needed boost to the industry post-pandemic. The chemistry and tension between Ajay Devgn and Akshaye Khanna were cited as a driving force for the sequel's repeat footfalls. The loss of Khanna is a creative blow, but the Drishyam brand remains one of the strongest pullers in Indian cinema. Historically, the franchise relies heavily on its screenplay and the Salgaonkar vs. The System trope. As Drishyam 3 moves through its production phase, the primary focus remains on protecting the film's climactic secrets. While trade buzz originally suggested a possible simultaneous release for both the Hindi and Malayalam versions to mitigate spoilers, current industry indications suggest that the Malayalam original starring Mohanlal is progressing on its own timeline, while Ajay Devgn's Hindi version remains firmly locked for its signature October 2, 2026 theatrical window. With Khanna's exit now looming, all eyes are on whether the producers will look for another powerhouse performer to maintain the high intensity face-off that fans have come to expect.

Box Office 2025: Chhaava"™s Historic ₹600 Cr Run, Saiyaara"™s Pre-Booking Frenzy, and the Unstoppable Wave of This Year"™s Highest Grossers

1. Chhaava "“ ₹807.88 crore - Chhaava was the powerful story of a brave hero, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the valiant son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. After Shivaji"™s death in 1680, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, played by Akshaye Khanna, and his court rejoiced, believing their fiercest enemy was gone. Confident and emboldened, they dreamed of capturing the Deccan region. But their joy was short-lived when Sambhaji Maharaj, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal, delivered a stunning blow"” raiding Burhanpur and looting the Mughal treasury. Enraged, Aurangzeb swore revenge. Anticipating a Mughal retaliation, Sambhaji made strategic preparations to protect his kingdom. However, what he did not foresee was the betrayal within his own family"”internal politics that made it easier for Aurangzeb to advance. What followed was a gripping tale of war, sacrifice, and the unwavering spirit of a leader who refused to surrender. ## Chhaava had not only captivated audiences but also rewritten the box office record books. With a staggering ₹600.10 crore at the domestic box office, it became Vicky Kaushal"™s highest-grossing film to date, surpassing all his previous works and reaffirming his status as one of the most bankable stars of his generation. The film entered Bollywood"™s most elite league, becoming only the fourth Indian film to cross the ₹600 crore mark domestically, joining the ranks of Pushpa 2: The Rule, Jawan, and Stree 2. ## This historic success also marked a milestone for Rashmika Mandanna, who etched her name in box office history. With Chhaava crossing ₹500 crore, she became the only actress with three consecutive blockbusters crossing the ₹500 crore mark. Her previous two hits"”Animal and Pushpa 2: The Rule - combined with Chhaava, completed a unique and unmatched hat-trick, cementing her position as one of the most formidable stars in Indian cinema. Chhaava was not just a film"”it was a cinematic triumph that blended legacy, valour, and mass appeal into an unforgettable experience.## 2. Saiyaara "“ ₹512crore - Saiyaara was a film of many firsts"”it marked the much-anticipated acting debut of Ahaan Panday, the first collaboration between acclaimed director Mohit Suri and Yash Raj Films (YRF), and also the producing debut of Akshaye Widhani. Moreover, it held the distinction of being the first YRF theatrical release with Netflix as its official OTT partner. ## The story revolved around Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), a closet poet heartbroken after being abandoned at the altar, who later crossed paths with Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), an aspiring singer with a temper and a passion for music. When Krish read one of Vaani"™s poems, he was mesmerised and invited her to write lyrics for his songs. As they worked together, love blossomed, but their relationship faced unexpected challenges, forming the emotional core of the narrative. ## In what could only be described as a spectacular dream run, Saiyaara crossed the ₹500-crore mark at the worldwide box office within just 18 days of its theatrical release, firmly establishing itself as one of the year"™s biggest successes. Starring debutant Ahaan Panday alongside Aneet Padda, the romantic action drama became the second film of 2025 to enter the elite ₹500 Crore club, following the record-breaking Chhaava. Saiyaara also made headlines for its massive pre-release buzz, emerging as the highest pre-booked film among several top titles. Saiyaara had registered the highest number of pre-bookings. At that time, it ranked 28th among the top booking grossers at MovieMax. ## Some of the films ahead of it included Jurassic World: Rebirth (2,087 tickets), Badass Ravi Kumar (2,400 tickets; benefited from the Rs. 99 offer), Fighter (2,850 tickets), Sikandar (3,700 tickets), Kalki 2898 AD (5,100 tickets), Dunki (6,300 tickets), Brahmastra (6,500 tickets), Singham Again (7,000 tickets), Jawan (17,500 tickets), Animal (18,600 tickets), Stree 2 (21,870 tickets), Chhaava (21,900 tickets), and Pushpa 2 "“ The Rule (22,500 tickets). Meanwhile, Saiyaara had surpassed prominent films like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (1,400 tickets), Sitaare Zameen Par (1,262 tickets), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1,175 tickets), and Kesari Chapter 2 (1,146 tickets).## Housefull 5"“ ₹288.58 crore - Akshay Kumar"™s madcap entertainer Housefull 5 stormed into cinemas with an explosive start, collecting ₹24.35 crore on its opening day. This thunderous debut rewrote the franchise"™s record books, surpassing all previous instalments by a wide margin. The journey had begun with Housefull (2010) at ₹10 crore, followed by Housefull 2 (2012) at ₹14 crore, Housefull 3 (2016) at ₹15.21 crore, and Housefull 4 (2019) at ₹16.50 crore"”making the fifth chapter the undisputed champion of the series and another box-office triumph for Akshay Kumar. ##The film also achieved good success globally, becoming Akshay Kumar"™s widest international release. It played in over 85 countries, reached more than 1,300 venues, and ran on over 2,000 screens worldwide"”a new benchmark for both the star and the franchise that reflected its massive global appeal. The story unfolds on a luxury cruise owned by Ranjeet Dobriyal, Britain"™s seventh-richest man, during his 100th birthday celebration. After Ranjeet"™s sudden death, his will names a son from his first marriage"”Jolly"”as heir. Chaos erupts when three different men claim to be Jolly, each with a wife in tow. A DNA test is planned, but a night of wild partying ends with the murder of a doctor. Two quirky detectives board the ship to unravel the mystery, leading to a storm of mistaken identities, comic twists, and revelations on the high seas.## ## Sitaare Zameen Par "“ ₹267.34 crore - Aamir Khan"™s Sitaare Zameen Par was a heartfelt Hindi drama directed by RS Prasanna and starred Aamir Khan alongside Genelia Deshmukh, marking her much-anticipated comeback after 13 years. The film brought together a talented ensemble cast in a story that blended emotional depth with an inspiring message, while also breaking new ground in accessibility, making it a cinematic experience for audiences of all abilities. In the last quarter of the millennium, "˜mainstream"™ Hindi cinema had evolved to mean far more than standard (and sometimes substandard) entertainers. A growing segment of these films focused on stories"”mostly fictional"”about people with medical afflictions and disabilities. ## Just recently, audiences had seen the sensitive Tanvi"”The Great, which explored autism with depth and compassion. For films built around such themes, disabilities needed to be portrayed in a positive and wholesomely compassionate light"”avoiding frivolity, as seen in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan (on blindness), or the kind of opportunistic, artificially convenient depiction found in Saiyaara. The balance needed to ensure that the "˜entertainment quotient"™ worked in harmony with the "˜emotional quotient"™ and, importantly, the "˜intelligence quotient"™. ## Encouragingly, most films in this space had not only succeeded commercially but had also enhanced awareness, understanding, and acceptance of individuals facing such challenges. Marking a significant moment in this movement was Genelia Deshmukh"™s return to cinema after 13 years in Sitaare Zameen Par, produced by Aamir Khan. In a groundbreaking achievement for global cinema, the film became the first in the world to feature all major accessibility features"”closed captions, audio description, and Indian Sign Language"”ensuring that audiences with visual, hearing, or speech impairments could experience it with dignity and independence.## This heartfelt drama had a strong start, opening to ₹10.50 crore on Day 1, followed by an impressive overseas opening weekend collection of 3.10 million USD (₹26.83 crore), underscoring that films with both emotional depth and inclusive vision resonated powerfully across borders.## Raid 2 "“ ₹237 crore - Starring Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, and Rajat Kapoor, and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 emerged as the 42nd success and 17th hit for Ajay Devgn. The movie followed Income Tax Officer Amay Patnaik in 1989 as he was transferred to Bhoj after a controversial raid in Jaipur. There, he confronted influential cabinet minister Manohar Dhankar, aka Dada Bhai, a revered figure who was secretly steeped in corruption. Determined to expose him, Amay launched a massive raid, only to find nothing, forcing him to change tactics against his shrewdest opponent yet. What followed was a gripping battle of wits, strategy, and perseverance to bring the untouchable politician to justice. The movie was released on Netflix on June 26 and received a strong audience response for its gripping drama and performances. However, Raid 2 It couldn"™t impress much compared to its predecessor. ## In the end, this season proved to be a milestone period for Indian cinema, with each film carving its mark at the box office. Chhaava emerged as the undisputed champion, not just for its gripping portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj but also for rewriting history with over ₹600 crore domestically and cementing Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna"™s records. Saiyaara made waves with its exceptional pre-booking numbers, holding its own against major blockbusters and delivering a solid opening that justified the early hype. Sitaare Zameen Par, Raid 2, and Housefull 5 also had their moments"”drawing in crowds with their unique appeal and contributing to a vibrant, competitive box office. Together, these films demonstrated the diversity of storytelling and star power in today"™s industry"”proving that whether it"™s historical grandeur, high-octane thrillers, or light-hearted entertainers, audiences are willing to show up in massive numbers when the big screen delivers a memorable experience. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 2 Set For Double Digit Start

Mumbai, November 17 - The much-awaited sequel Drishyam 2 starring Ajay Devgn is all set for a good start at the box office. The suspense thriller, directed by Abhishek Pathak, has generated a good amount of buzz through its teaser/trailer along with its unique way of promotions. ## "Drishyam 2" is a remake of the 2021 Malayalam film of the same name and also the sequel to "Drishyam" (2015). As far as the advance booking is concerned, "Drishyam 2" is having a much better response than several recent Bollywood movies, thanks to, again its teaser/trailer and the fact that it is the next chapter of an already superhit first part.## Produced by Panorama Studios and Viacom18 Studios, "Drishyam 2" is comfortably heading towards a double-digit start. The advance booking for the opening day of the movie is currently around 5 crores (with block seats), which indicates an opening of 12-13 crores net. The pre-sales are expected to be over 6 crores, which will be among the top three Bollywood movies post the covid-19 pandemic. ## "Drishyam 2" is not a typical Bollywood masala film, which used to go bonkers from the opening day itself. It is a movie that will heavily depend on audience word of mouth, and hence, spot booking will be crucial for the final opening day or weekend numbers. However, one would expect it to be a must-watch film considering the fact that the makers haven't changed the script much from the original Malayalam movie that was hailed as one of the best thrillers. ## The release size of "Drishyam 2" will also play a big role in its opening day numbers. As per industry insiders, the film will be released on approx. 3300 screens across the country which is good enough for it to take a healthy start and set up the stage for a very good opening weekend, expecting 45 crores if talks are positive. ## The original "Drishyam", which was released in 2015, took an opening of 5.4 crores and after 7 years, its sequel is set for a comfortable 2X start. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles with Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, and Rajat Kapoor in supporting roles.## Stay tuned...
