Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's Historic Novel Anandamath Gets Film Adaptation, Titled '1770'

Hyderabad, August 17 - The historic Bengali novel, Anandamath by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay is getting a film adaptation soon. Titled 1770, the pan-India film will be directed by SS Rajamouli protégé Ashwin Gangaraju and it is being created by author-filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee. ## Ashwin Gangaraju has assisted maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli in "Eega" and "Baahubali" (both series). He made his debut as a director with the critically acclaimed film "Aakashvani" in 2021. Legendary V Vijayendra Prasad is writing the story and screenplay of "1770". ## "This subject was a huge challenge for me, but with legendary V Vijayendra Prasad sir writing the adapted story and screenplay, I think what we have on paper is a blockbuster cinematic experience", affirms director Ashwin Gangaraju.## "As a filmmaker, I'm more drawn towards the stories which have periodic setups, bigger emotions, scope for larger than life action, etc and this is something that sits in perfectly for me. Initially, I was a little skeptical but I spoke to Ram Kamal Mukherjee and after listening to his vision I gained confidence", he added. ## The motion poster for "1770" has been released to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram, the song that appeared first in Bankim Chandra's novel Anandamath, which almost shook the roots of the British Empire. "I feel that Vande Mataram was a magical word. It was a mantra that was given by Maharishi Bankim Chandra for a nation to unite against tyranny and injustice. In 1770, we dealt with the story of unknown warriors who ignited the fire of the freedom movement", V Vijayendra Prasad said. ## The movie will be produced by Shhailendra Kkumar, Sujayy Kuttiy, Krishna Kumar B, and Suraj Sharma and they feel that it is a right in India to make larger-than-life cinema. The makers will lock the main lead before Dassera, and by Diwali, they will announce the cast of the film. It will be made in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali.## Based on #BankimChandraChatterjee's #Bengali novel #Anandamath... #VVijayendraPrasad is writing the adapted story and screenplay of #1770TheMovie... Celina Jaitly: Rituparno Ghosh had called me to cast in a project

Mumbai, April 28 (IANS) Actress Celina Jaitly made her comeback with Ram Kamal Mukherjee's digital short film "Season's Greetings: A Tribute To Rituparno Ghosh". She says that though she missed out on a chance to work with the iconic Bengali filmmaker, she feels special having got a chance to work in the short film.## Asked if she followed the work of Rituporno, Celina told IANS: "Once, Rituda has called me and wanted to cast me in a project. He did not know I was pregnant with my first set of twins at that time, and it didn't work out. I spoke to him last when his father passed away. It was an intimate conversation. Little did I know he will be leaving for his heavenly abode soon. His last words to me were that I must have the babies safely and that he would like me to stay at the Tolly club whenever we went ahead with a project after the delivery."## She added: "Rituda calling me for a project was beyond my dreams. I had admired him so much that I couldn't believe my ears. Unfortunately, things were not meant to be, until Ram (Kamal Mukherjee) came along with this project. I had goosebumps it's as if things were working from the beyond. I hope Rituda will be happy and satisfied with our subtle tribute. I always pray that he has finally found the acceptance and place of no judgment."## According to the actress, she was a fan of the late National award-winning filmmaker, and his 1997 release "Dahan" is one of her favorite films of Rituparno Ghosh.## "I was in school when 'Dahan' released. I remember being mesmerized with the film and Romita, the character played by Rituparna Sengupta. Little did I know I would play a character named after her years later in a film which is, unfortunately, a posthumous tribute to the legend Rituparno Ghosh," recalled Celina.## Ram Kamal Mukherjee's short film also features Shree Ghatak, Lillette Dubey, and Azhar Khan.## Celina's last released film was "Will You Marry Me?" in 2012. The reason she did "Season's Greetings", she says, is because it was her mother's last wish that she should make a comeback and show people her true worth as an actress.## "It was one of her last wishes that I return to cinema and show people my true talent. She never gave up on me. When our director Ram Kamal Mukherjee narrated the story in Dubai I knew this movie is a calling from beyond. A calling of four very important people in my life who are no more. Ritu Da, My late parents, a mother-figure trans person who is no more. I am very thankful to Ram for making my mother's wish come true," said the actress.## "Season's Greetings" is streaming on ZEE5.## Stay tuned...

Jeetendra, Bollywood's 'Jumping Jack', turns 78

Mumbai, April 7 (IANS) How is Ravi Kapoor now? Have we forgotten him? If you are unable to fathom what we are talking about, Ravi Kapoor is the original name of one of Bollywood's biggest superstars of all time and the ladies' heartthrob of his era -- Jeetendra!## The man who earned the sobriquet of 'Jumping Jack' in Bollywood owing to his energetic dancing style, turns 78 today. He has chosen to move away from the limelight, but Jeetu -- as he was known to fans and colleagues -- continues to reside in the hearts of Hindi film buffs across the globe. His genial screen image, gentlemanly attitude off the screen and, most notably, those trademark white dancing shoes he insisted on wearing every time, will never go away from the popular psyche.## On his birthday, IANS does a throwback on the phenomenon that is Jeetendra.## WHERE IT STARTED## Jeetendra was born on April 7, 1942 in Punjab's Amritsar as Ravi Kapoor. He schooled at St. Sebastian's Goan High School and then went to Siddharth College, both in Mumbai.## BOLLYWOOD CALLING## Jeetendra got his Bollywood break in V. Shantaram's "Navrang". He would go on to deliver hit films like "Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne (1964), "Farz" (1967), "Caravan" (1971), "Parichay" (1972), "Khushboo" (1975), "Kinara" (1977), "Dharam Veer", "Judaai" (1980), "Meri Aawaz Suno" (1981), "Himmatwala" (1983), "Khudgarz" (1987) and a lot more, which made him a superstar.## HIT MACHINE## Jeetendra has acted in over 200 movies as the lead, out of which over 120 were hits! This is a ratio very few actors can dream of. His active years were from the '60s to the '90s but he actually ruled Bollywood in the '70s and '80s. In the seventies, he made a hit pair with top actresses of the era such as Hema Malini, Rekha, and Reena Roy. In the eighties, he started off as a hit co-star for Jaya Pradha but he really struck gold once he teamed up with Sridevi in the 1983 superhit, "Himmatwala". The film that would go on to spiral Sridevi to the top of the Bollywood heroines' heap, also led to a chain of commercial successes for the Jeetendra-Sridevi pair including "Justice Chaudhary", "Maqsad", "Mawaali" and "Tohfa".## JUMPING JACK## No discussion of Bollywood dancing can be complete without a thorough acknowledgment of Bollywood's Jumping Jack Jeetendra. Jeetendra's style was best defined in songs like "Naino mein mapna" ("Himmatwala"), "Taki O Taki" ("Himmatwala"), "Mast bahaaron ka main aashiq" ("Farz") and "Dhal gaya din" ("Humjoli"), which remain evergreen till today.## STYLE ICON## The evergreen heartthrob who made every girl's heart skip a beat has always been a natty dresser. On-screen, he set a fashion trend with his white pants and white shoes. It is said that the actor had randomly picked up the clothes from a shop before shooting for the song "Mast bahaaron ka main aashiq" in "Farz", which went on to become his trademark style. When quizzed about the same on the sets of a television dance reality show a few years ago, Jeetendra confessed with a smile: "Dark clothes make me look short!"## THE HEMA MALINI FACTOR## The man who GenNow Bollywood buffs know as Ekta and Tusshar Kapoor's father has been happily married to his teenage love Shobha Kapoor for decades now, but a Hema Malini biography by Ram Kamal Mukherjee titled "Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl" mentions that the actress's mother Jaya Chakravarthy had allegedly convinced her to tie the knot with Jeetendra as she was not happy with her daughter dating Dharmendra, who was already a married man. Pressurizing Hema, her family arranged for a hush-hush wedding with Jeetendra at their Chennai residence. At that time, Jeetendra was dating Shobha Sippy, an air hostess. However, the news of the secret wedding got leaked in a daily. As soon as he read it, Dharmendra contacted Shobha and the two landed in Chennai. An inebriated Dharmendra reportedly broke into the wedding venue with Shobha. Despite the efforts of Hema's parents to carry on with the wedding, she backed out after meeting Dharmendra. Meanwhile, Shobha also spoke to Jeetendra seeking an explanation from him about the entire episode!## STEPPING OFF THE SPOTLIGHT## Why did the man with numerous hits move away from the spotlight? Jeetendra's son Tusshar revealed in an interview that the superstar of yore began losing interest when he started getting offers to play roles like the hero's elder brother or father in the '90s.## Although we don't see him on screen, Jeetendra has not severed ties with his extended Bollywood family. He still attends invitations from friends and colleagues, and also happily obliges fans seeking an autograph or a selfie!## Stay tuned...
