Baahubali: The Epic Tops 10 Crore Advance Booking Worldwide; Sets Up Big Release In Overseas Markets

Hyderabad, October 29 - Director SS Rajamouli's action drama Baahubali: The Epic, which is a nearly 4-hour one cut version of his Baahubali duology, is roaring in the advance booking ahead of its 31st October release. The bookings are better than many of the mid-budget films, let alone the re-release title. Starring Prabhas in the title role alongside Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj and Tamannah Bhatia, the film has topped 10 crores advance booking gross collection for the opening day, including premieres. In India, the bookings have crossed 5 crores, while overseas pre-sales are nearing the 5 crore mark, driven by North America. The pre-sales of Baahubali - The Epic are already higher than the lifetime collection of Indian re-release titles. It is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time, and will probably become the first film to cross the 100 crore mark. Meanwhile, the makers have locked a wide release of the film in international markets. In the USA, the film will be released in over 400 theatres, followed by 210 in the UK & Ireland, over 150 in the UAE & GCC, 144 in Australia and New Zealand, and over 100 theatres in Southeast Asia. Overall, the movie will be released in over 1150 theatres across overseas markets, which is easily the biggest for an Indian re-release movie. Produced by Arka Media Works, Baahubali: The Epic has been censored with U/A with an approved theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 45 minutes. The first half, which contains scenes from Baahubali: The Beginning, is nearly 1 hour and 42 minutes, while the second half (Baahubali: The Conclusion) is about 2 hours and 3 minutes. Stay tuned...

The film"™s extensive preproduction spanned several months, with massive battle sequences requiring meticulous planning and costing lakhs per day to stage. "” Indian Express noted that certain war sequences cost about ₹1 crore every four days, and millions were invested in previsualization to get the action right. Its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), mounted on an even larger scale with a ₹250 crore budget, became a cultural phenomenon "” earning around ₹1,788.06 crore globally and holding the title of one of India"™s biggest hits ever.Together, the two parts "” made with a combined production cost of nearly ₹430 crore "” created an unparalleled cinematic universe that continues to inspire filmmakers and captivate audiences worldwide. Baahubali: The Epic arrives as both celebration and commercial event: a remastered single-film presentation that has already registered substantial advance interest.Social media is buzzing with throwback posts, fan edits, and emotional reactions. Many call it "œthe return of Indian cinema"™s pride," while others simply say, "œBaahubali is not just a movie "” it"™s emotion revisited."Whether you come for the battles, the drama, or the shared fandom, the re-release promises a theatrical experience geared to big screens and big emotions.

From Dangal To Lokah: The Highest-Grossing Films Across Six Major Indian Film Industries

Mumbai, September 20 - The Indian cinema is the most diverse in the world with its vast landscape of languages and cultures, each with its own set of superstars, styles, and record-breaking blockbusters. Over the years, the country has delivered rich results at the box office, not just with the mainstream Hindi cinema, but also with regional cinema, where films across different genres unlocked new potential. As the Indian cinema continues to evolve and come closer than ever, there have been certain films which have not only ruled their regional box office but also established themselves as benchmarks for their respective industries. Here's a look at the current all-time biggest hits from six major Indian film industries, which have set benchmarks for their other films to achieve. Hindi Cinema "“ Dangal (2016) Aamir Khan's sports drama Dangal (2016) remains the undisputed king of not just Bollywood, but of Indian cinema. With a staggering 2070 crore worldwide gross, the wrestling drama became a global sensation, largely due to its phenomenal run in China, which contributed over 60% to its total collection. Years later, no Indian film has managed to surpass its worldwide record. Telugu Cinema "“ Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) While Dangal remains the biggest Indian blockbuster, it was director S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) that changed the game for Indian cinema. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty, the epic fantasy collected 1788 crore worldwide and showcased the true potential of Telugu films and also broke the language barrier to emerge as a pan-India spectacle, with a large contribution from the Hindi language. Kannada Cinema "“ KGF Chapter 2 (2022) Kannada cinema was largely limited to its home state before the Yash-fronted KGF franchise changed the game for it. And it was KGF Chapter 2 (2022) that proved that Kannada cinema could dominate globally. With its raw action, style, and storytelling, the film amassed an extraordinary 1230 crore worldwide, cementing itself as the industry's biggest blockbuster to date. Tamil Cinema "“ 2.0 (2018) The Tamil film industry has failed to match its fellow Southern industries in terms of potential, but it has seen a continuous rise over the last few years. However, despite multiple 500 crores blockbusters, it is Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi extravaganza 2.0 (2018), directed by Shankar, which is still the biggest Tamil grosser to date. The film, packed with cutting-edge VFX, grossed ₹691 crore worldwide. Malayalam Cinema "“ Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025) The Malayalam cinema has been on an unreal rise for the last few years. From being limited to the regional barrier to breaking into the Pan-India market, the industry has made sure that it competes with the giants of Indian cinema. And it can't be a prouder moment for the industry that a female-led film is leading the charge. Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero saga Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, with a 267+ crore worldwide gross, has become the industry's highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing big names like Mohanlal's Empuraan. Punjabi Cinema "“ Jatt & Juliet 3 (2024) The Punjabi film industry has been struggling to deliver results at the box office due to various reasons. It has scored only two 100 crores grossers, with Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's romantic comedy Jatt & Juliet 3 (2024) being the biggest of them. It became the second-ever Punjabi movie, after Carry On Jatta 3 (2023), to cross the 100 crore milestone, grossing 102.60 crore worldwide. Stay tuned...

Pongal 2026 Showdown: Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi Joins The Festive Race Against Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan

Chennai, September 12 - The Tamil cinema is bracing up for a major box office showdown on Pongal 2026 after Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited period political drama film Parashakti confirms indirect clash with Thalapathy Vijay's swan song Jana Nayagan. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parashakti is reportedly based on true events, revolving around the Anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965. On Friday (September 12), the makers announced that this much-awaited movie will be hitting worldwide cinemas on January 14, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. Produced by Dawn Pictures, Parashakti was initially supposed to be headlined by Suriya, who backed out for some reason. It has Sreeleela as the female lead, alongside Ravi Mohan, who plays the antagonist. The film also stars Rana Daggubati, Atharvaa, Basil Joseph, and others. Parashakti will be released four days after Thalapathy Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan, before his political entry. Both movies are political thrillers, which are expected to score big box office numbers, and might also invite criticism for their genre. 💥💥💥😊👍 pic.twitter.com/jrljjJv98U— Sivakarthikeyan (@Siva_Kartikeyan) September 12, 2025 Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Vettaiyan: Lokesh Kanagaraj's Mass Action Collides With T.J. Gnanavel's Action Drama

Chennai, August 14 - In theatres right now is Coolie, the latest Rajinikanth-starrer action spectacle directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which follows hot on the heels of the superstar's previous outing, Vettaiyan, brought to life by T.J. Gnanavel. While both films showcase the actor's unmatched screen presence, they differ in tone, style, and box office performance. ## Vettaiyan was released on October 10, 2024, marking a compelling departure for Rajinikanth, portraying an encounter specialist navigating the murky world of crime and justice. Directed by T. J. Gnanavel and produced under Lyca Productions, the film assembled a powerhouse cast including Amitabh Bachchan as Rajinikanth's superior, along with Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and more. ## The Film was set against the social backdrop of encounter killings, the screenplay by B. Kiruthika captured the moral complexities faced by law enforcers, urging reform over retaliation. Anirudh Ravichander"™s music, most notably the single "Manasilaayo", featuring a rare on-screen dance moment by Rajinikanth and Manju Warrier, injected both energy and emotional resonance into the film. The movie had a promising opening, but a mixed reception didn't help it in the long run, and at the end of 2024, the movie amassed around ₹250 crores worldwide, securing a respectable third place among the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. ## Vettaiyan features a rare and powerful reunion of cinematic legends, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, sharing the screen again after 33 years, following their iconic collaboration in Hum (1991). Strategically planned for a pan-Indian release, Vettaiyan was simultaneously launched in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, expanding its reach beyond traditional Tamil cinema audiences. The movie received a mixed-to-positive response from critics, with many praising Rajinikanth's commanding presence and the film's socially relevant theme, while pointing out issues in pacing and storytelling.## Vettaiyan emerged as a bold yet imperfect attempt to blend mass appeal with social messaging. Rajinikanth"™s charisma remained its strongest asset, while its commercial appeal carried it to solid box office numbers despite narrative inconsistencies. Gnanavel"™s film invited praise for its purpose and intention, even if not entirely successful in execution. ## Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, marks a grand comeback for Rajinikanth, celebrating both his 171st film and a 50-year cinematic legacy. Rajinikanth headlines as Deva, reportedly a former gang leader entangled in complex socio-political dynamics. The ensemble includes Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Pooja Hegde, and Soubin Shahir, among others. Aamir Khan appears in a high-impact cameo, including a dramatic 15-minute confrontation with Rajinikanth. Anirudh Ravichander scores the soundtrack"”his fourth collaboration with Lokesh and fifth with Rajinikanth. ## The album, released August 2, 2025, includes hit singles like "Monica," which sparked a viral dance trend. Strategically positioned for a pan-India release in over 100 countries, the film is poised to become one of Tamil cinema's most widely distributed titles. Coolie had achieved remarkable pre-release milestones, with worldwide bookings totalling over ₹100 crores for the opening day. In North America, pre-sales reached $2.75 million, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Rajinikanth"™s previous hit "Petta" in the region. ## Additionally, the film set a new record for Tamil cinema on BookMyShow by selling 2.5+ million tickets in advance. The film received an 'A' certification, making it Rajinikanth"™s first adult-only release in 36 years, a testament to its intense action and mature themes.
