IMDb Unveils Top 10 Most Popular Indian Movies of 2025 Till July 1st

Mumbai, July 9 - The half of the year has been completed, and IMDb has unveiled the list of the top 10 most popular Indian movies of 2025 so far. The list includes films released between January 1, 2025 and July 1, 2025, that have an average IMDb user rating of 6 or higher with at least 10,000 votes. ## Determined by the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide, all the top 10 popular films had a theatrical release. Of the top 10 titles, six are Bollywood films, followed by three Tamil films, and one Malayalam movie. ## 1. Chhaava (Hindi) - Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, the historical action drama features Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna in the leading roles. It is currently the highest-grossing Indian film with over 800 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office. ## 2. Dragon (Tamil) - Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dragon is a coming-of-age comedy-drama released on February 21, 2025. It is the second-highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year so far, with over 150 crores worldwide collection. ## 3. Deva (Hindi) - The action thriller film, despite underperforming at the box office, remained one of the most popular Indian movies on IMDb. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the movie stars Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde in the leading roles. It grossed around 56 crores worldwide. ## 4. Raid 2 (Hindi) - The crime action thriller, directed by Rajkumar Gupta and starring Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and Vaani Kapoor, is one of the most successful Indian films of the year. The film delivered robust box office numbers, solidifying its success with over 200 cr in domestic gross and earnings of around 237 cr worldwide. ## 5. Retro (Tamil) - The romantic action thriller, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, was one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year, but it underperformed at the box office, despite grossing close to 100 crores worldwide. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro is among the most popular Indian titles of the year. ## 6. The Diplomat (Hindi) - John Abraham headlines this political thriller inspired by real events. Directed by Shivam Nair, the film was a decent success at the global box office, grossing over 50 crores gross collection in its full run. ## 7. L2: Empuraan (Malayalam) - The Mohanlal-starrer political action thriller, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was the most anticipated Malayalam movie of the year, and delivered box office performance accordingly by emerging as the biggest Malayalam grosser of all-time, with a worldwide collection of over 265 crores gross. The controversy helped the film perform in its home state, Kerala, where it grossed around 90 crores. ## 8. Sitaare Zameen Par (Hindi) - This comedy drama marked a comeback for superstar Aamir Khan by delivering at the box office. Directed by RS Prasanna, SZP is only the second movie of Aamir in the post-COVID-19 era, and it timely scored success for the actor, grossing over 235 crores worldwide (19 days) and is still playing in theatres. ## 9. Kesari Chapter 2 (Hindi) - Easily one of the best films of the year, this biographical drama, starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Pandey, and R. Madhavan, won everyone's heart with its emotional subject, strong performance, and technical brilliance. The movie emerged as a success at the box office, grossing close to 150 crores worldwide. ## 10. Vidaamuyarchi (Tamil) - A major box office shock, this Tamil action thriller, starring Ajith Kumar, remained one of the most popular Indian titles in the first half of the year. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the film was penned by critics and was equally disliked by audiences. John Abraham To Team Up With Director Rohit Shetty

Mumbai, February 1 - Director Rohit Shetty has had mixed results post the COVID-19 pandemic. While his Sooryavanshi was a box-office success, Cirkus turned into a massive disaster and Singham Again, which was released on Diwali last year, didn't live up to the high expectations despite grossing over 350 crores worldwide. ## The maverick filmmaker has now reportedly decided to take a break from his blockbuster cop universe and is likely to direct a standalone action thriller film next with Bollywood star John Abraham other than comedy entertainer Golmaal 5 for which the script has reportedly been locked.## According to the report by Mid-Day, Shetty began developing the script for a standalone action thriller after the release of Singham Again and a few preliminary meetings with John have already taken place. The report states that if things go as planned, the movie might go on floors by April this year and a final call will be taken by March. ## If the project materializes, it would be Shetty and John's first collaboration. The duo has reportedly discussed the dates as Shetty plans to shoot for the movie in Mumbai in a straight schedule over 45 days this summer, after which, the director will shoot for the TV reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 15. ## John Abraham, meanwhile, will next be seen in a thriller film, The Diplomat which said is based on true events. Neeraj Pandey opens up on 'Special Ops' season 2

Mumbai, April 8 (IANS) Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has confirmed the second season of his debut web series, "Special Ops". Season one of the espionage thriller show was launched on Hotstar earlier this year and became an instant hit.## "When we were discussing the show with Hotstar, we planned to make something that will have recall value, and we were clear about two things. First, we will conclude the story within the first season. I mean there would be nothing left, no loose ends. But at the same time, we wanted to create a brand and a franchise with which we can easily narrate some other stories. Once our lives are restored to normalcy, we will figure out what needs to be done," said Pandey in a telephonic chat, on the possibility of a second season.## "The amount of love that has come in, and there's the demand for the second season. There is an appetite for it. Now, it all depends on our schedules. Right now everything is thrown out because of the coronavirus pandemic -- schedules, work, lives, and timelines. Mumbai, March 19 (IANS) Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has given tribute to Bollywood by naming each episode of his web series "Special Ops" after his favourite movie. ## Neeraj has directed the series along with Shivam Nair. The eight-episode Hotstar Special spy action thriller series is based on the role of Indian intelligence in a series of real terror attacks that India has faced over the last 19 years, including the 26/11 attacks. ## "Shivam and I have directed parts of every episode but have shared credits between us -- where every alternate episode is credited," Neeraj said. ## "Every episode is like a mini-film and we have treated it with the same scale. Small trivia -- all the episodes are names of films I have grown up on and I deeply love," he added. ## Shivam has directed every odd-numbered episode (1,3,5 and 7) while Neeraj has directed every even-numbered episode (2,4,6 and 8). ## The first episode is titled "Kaagaz Ke Phool".
