Sivakarthikeyan"™s Parasakthi Wraps Up: Sudha Kongara"™s Political Epic Set for a Pongal 2026 Clash with Vijay"™s Jana Nayagan

The highly anticipated Tamil film Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Sivakarthikeyan, Jayam Ravi, and Atharvaa, has officially wrapped production and is gearing up for a grand Pongal release on January 14, 2026. The announcement came through the team"™s latest post on X, confirming that the film has completed its shoot and entered the final phase of post-production. Produced by Dawn Pictures and distributed by Red Giant Movies, Parasakthi is a large-scale political period drama set against the backdrop of the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitations in Tamil Nadu. Sivakarthikeyan plays a revolutionary student leader, while Atharvaa takes on the role of a fiery activist, and Jayam Ravi is rumoured to appear as the antagonist, with Sreeleela making her Tamil debut. Backed by an impressive technical crew featuring G. V. Prakash Kumar"”marking his 100th film as a music composer"”Ravi K. Chandran on cinematography, and Sathish Suriya handling editing, the film promises a compelling blend of social relevance and mass appeal. Shot across locations such as Madurai, Pollachi, and parts of Sri Lanka, the film is said to have been made on a speculative budget estimated between ₹150"“250 crore, making it one of the most ambitious Tamil productions of 2026.The Pongal window will witness a major box-office face-off as Parasakthi goes head-to-head with Vijay"™s Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and releasing just days earlier. Both films carry strong political undercurrents"”Parasakthi rooted in historical rebellion, and Jana Nayagan exploring modern-day politics"”setting the stage for one of Tamil cinema"™s biggest festival face-offs.While Vijay"™s pan-Indian star power gives Jana Nayagan an early edge, Parasakthi"™s stellar lineup, guided by Sudha Kongara"™s direction and elevated by G. V. Prakash"™s milestone soundtrack, makes it a formidable contender. With such a high-profile festive clash on the horizon, it"™s insightful to look at the recent box-office performances of the leading actors to gauge the potential stakes for Parasakthi. It"™s worth looking back at the previous releases of the two leading actors to understand the stakes: Vijay"™s Leo (2023) emerged as a mammoth commercial success, reporting a worldwide gross of around ₹605.9 crore, including an overseas haul of about ₹204 crore. Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan"™s Madharaasi (2025) opened to good initial buzz but with more modest results: it collected approximately ₹98.75 crore worldwide (including about ₹25 crore overseas) Given this backdrop, Parasakthi appears to be stepping into a high-stakes arena. While Vijay"™s Leo sets a very high benchmark, Sivakarthikeyan"™s Madharaasi shows that although there is strong potential, sustaining performance is key. For Parasakthi, the challenge is dual: to out-perform Sivakarthikeyan"™s own recent benchmark and to hold ground against the lingering aura of Vijay"™s blockbuster success. The competition is real "” and the festival release adds further pressure. If Parasakthi wants to emerge not just as a hit but as a defining film of the season, it will need strong word-of-mouth, robust box-office momentum and favorable timing to overcome both past performance pressure and existing star-driven precedents. All eyes are now on Pongal 2026, as two of the industry"™s most awaited films prepare for a high-voltage cinematic showdown.

Harshvardhan Rane's Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Box Office Preview/Opening Expectations: Eyes Double-Digit Start

Mumbai, October 21 - Romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, is gearing up for a promising opening at the box office. The film has surprised trade analysts with its good advance booking trend, signalling a strong start despite a modest star cast. Directed by Milap Zaveri, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has clocked 4 crores in advance bookings (including block seats) for its opening day. This figure is notably higher than Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2, underscoring the unexpectedly strong interest the film has generated among audiences. Trade trackers note that the advances are surprisingly good for the cast involved, especially considering the film's romantic drama genre and mid-tier positioning. The advance numbers, coupled with the Diwali holiday effect, have positioned Deewaniyat for a healthy start in the range of 8"“10 crores on opening day. Adding to its advantage, the film releases a day after Diwali, traditionally regarded as one of the best days for the box office. With families and younger audiences expected to flock to cinemas, Deewaniyat is likely to see a surge in spot bookings across urban and semi-urban centres. If the early trends sustain through the day, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat could well emerge as a dark horse this festive season, potentially posting one of the strongest openings for a low-budget romantic drama in recent times. Thamma Set for a Grand Diwali Release with Midnight Shows on October 20 "” The Fifth Chapter in Maddock"™s Expanding Horror-Comedy Universe

The much-awaited film Thamma, the fifth instalment in Dinesh Vijan"™s Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), is shaping up to be one of the biggest Diwali releases of the year. Following the success of earlier films like Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2, this new chapter introduces audiences to a fresh supernatural world "” a "œvampire love story" led by Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. The film, set to release on October 21, 2025, carries high expectations as it continues the legacy of Maddock Films"™ unique blend of horror, comedy, and emotion. In an interesting turn, the makers are planning to offer fans an early celebration by organising special midnight shows on October 20, just hours before the official release. Verified reports from Pinkvilla, confirm that these shows will serve as exclusive paid previews across major multiplex chains in India. The strategy mirrors the successful early-screening approach adopted for Munjya and Stree 2, both of which benefited greatly from strong word-of-mouth before the release day. Releasing during the Diwali weekend is also a well-calculated move. The festive holiday has historically been a lucrative window for big films, and Thamma looks set to capitalise on the season"™s family and youth audience. The decision to schedule midnight screenings not only amplifies the excitement but also allows the film to gain valuable buzz before the morning shows roll out nationwide. Producer Dinesh Vijan reportedly views this as a celebration for fans who have followed the MHCU"™s journey from its first chapter, Stree, to its latest expansion into the supernatural-romance space. With a strong ensemble cast, an intriguing concept, and the added hype of Diwali midnight shows, Thamma is poised to make a mark both commercially and culturally. If the earlier instalments are any indication, the film could once again deliver a perfect mix of thrills, humour, and heart "” lighting up the big screen as the Maddock universe continues to grow stronger with every new addition.

Unexpected Challenge For Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma From Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat

Mumbai, October 16 - Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's horror comedy Thamma was expected to be the clear Diwali showstopper, being the only major Bollywood release with bankable stars during the festive weekend. However, the landscape seems to be shifting unexpectedly. Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa's romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, which initially appeared to be a smaller contender, is steadily gaining momentum. The film's buzz has reportedly grown stronger in recent days, surprising trade analysts and exhibitors alike. According to reports, the makers of Deewaniyat have now demanded equal showcasing in national multiplex chains, challenging Thamma's presumed dominance. This development marks an unforeseen twist in what was shaping up to be a solo Bollywood Diwali release. While Thamma was poised to secure the lion's share of shows across major circuits, as many believed it would get for being a potential blockbuster due to its connection with Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), the confidence of Deewane Ki Deewaniyat's producers indicates they believe the film's current buzz and audience curiosity could put it on par with the Ayushmann"“Rashmika starrer. "PVRInox is the distributor of Thamma, and one of the top management employees of PVRInox is now a part of Team Thama, heading distribution. The Deewaniyat team has asked all the national chains to go by the demand among the audience, rather than the foul play of leveraging equations for better showcasing", Bollywood Hungama reports. On the other hand, the Thamma producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films and the senior former PVRInox executive have demanded 75 per cent shows, leaving only 25 per cent for Deewaniyat. If both parties don't come to a solution soon, the advance booking of both films, which are scheduled to open on October 17 ahead of their October 21 release, might be delayed. It remains to be seen how exhibitors balance screens between the two films, but one thing is clear "” Diwali 2025 just got a lot more interesting for Bollywood fans and the box office alike. Bengaluru, October 15 - Rishab Shetty's blockbuster prequel Kantara Chapter 1 has rewritten box office history in Karnataka, emerging as the highest-grossing film ever in the state. The period folk action thriller continues its phenomenal run and is now marching toward the unprecedented milestone of 200 crores gross in Karnataka alone. Written, directed, and headlined by Shetty, Kantara prequel has grossed approximately 185+ crores through its second Wednesday (14 days). It has surpassed the lifetime total of 2022's Kantara (183.60 crores) to become the state's biggest grosser "” achieving this feat in just 14 days. Interestingly, the average ticket price for Kantara Chapter 1 in Karnataka has been recorded at over 300, a rare occurrence made possible after the makers took a firm stand against the state government's price cap order. The High Court's stay on the restriction "” which had limited prices to 200 "” played a crucial role in the film's massive revenue surge. Produced by Hombale Films, the banner behind Kantara and KGF Chapter 2 (the third-biggest grosser in Karnataka), Kantara Chapter 1 is now on course to become the first-ever film in history to cross 200 crores gross in the state, a feat expected to be achieved by its third weekend. Kantara Reigns Supreme in 2025: How This Blockbuster Achieved Unprecedented Success While Other Big Releases Struggled to Leave a Mark

The year 2025 witnessed a remarkable surge of South Indian films reaching Hindi-speaking audiences, but among them, Kantara stood out as the true phenomenon. Earning ₹656 crore worldwide(As of Now), with ₹155.35 crore (As of Now)coming from its Hindi release alone, driven by strong word-of-mouth, the essence of the story infused every small cultural nuances that connected the audience irrespective of language. Its compelling narrative and relatable characters turned it into a pan-India experience, setting benchmarks for Hindi-dubbed releases. While Kantara dominated, other releases like Coolie, Game Changer, and Mirai achieved only moderate results in Hindi markets. Coolie collected ₹37.23 crore in Hindi, supported by pre-release hype, a high-profile cast, and action-packed promotions. Game Changer earned ₹32.93 crore, contributing about 17.7% to its worldwide total of ₹186.28 crore, thanks to star power, fan anticipation, and premiere shows. Similarly, Mirai, with a pan-India cast and mythological-fantasy storyline, garnered ₹16.85 crore in Hindi from its ₹144.02 crore worldwide total. While these films had niche appeal, repeat viewings, and targeted promotions that helped them sustain for a few weeks, they could not replicate the kind of Hindi market success Kantara enjoyed. Films like Lokah Chapter 1 (₹3.74 crore) and They Call Him OG (₹3.32 crore) performed modestly, maintaining presence in select multiplexes. While films such as Coolie, Game Changer, and Mirai managed moderate collections, none could match the impact of Kantara across the northern and central belt audiences. Despite having pan-India casts, high-octane action, and visually impressive sequences, these films fell short of truly resonating with viewers. Their performance highlights that star power or production scale alone is not enough to guarantee widespread success. To achieve blockbuster status beyond the South, a film must combine compelling storytelling with cultural relatability, emotional depth, and narratives that transcend linguistic boundaries. Strong promotions, word-of-mouth momentum, and strategic release planning are important, but the core of a hit lies in connecting with audiences on an emotional and experiential level"”something Kantara accomplished with remarkable finesse. Future filmmakers aiming for pan-India success must focus on stories that engage viewers beyond spectacle, creating immersion, relatability, and lasting impact. Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Tops 100 Crore At The Overseas Box Office

Mumbai, October 14 - The Kannada film industry has achieved another global milestone as Rishab Shetty's period folk action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 has stormed past the 100 crore mark at the overseas box office on its 13th day. This makes it only the second Kannada movie ever to achieve this feat, following Yash"™s KGF: Chapter 2. Produced by Hombale Films, the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara grossed approximately 98 crores internationally through its second Monday (12 days), before crossing the coveted mark on its 13th day. With this, Kantara Chapter 1 becomes the fifth Indian film of 2025 to surpass 100 crores in overseas collections. Written, directed, and headlined by Shetty, the film has already earned more than twice the overseas total of the first instalment, which grossed around 44 crores in 2022. It now joins an elite list of Indian movies to breach the 100 crore overseas mark this year and stands as the second Kannada film after KGF 2 (214 crores in 2022) to do so. The blockbuster prequel is currently the fifth biggest Indian overseas grosser of 2025, behind Rajinikanth's Coolie (180 crores), Saiyaara (171.50 crores), Empuraan (142.25 crores), and Lokah Chapter 1 (₹119.60 crores). However, Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to soon surpass Lokah to claim the fourth spot. Kantara Chapter 1 is likely to finish above Lokah as the 4th biggest Indian overseas blockbuster of the year. Interestingly, both the biggest Kannada blockbusters, Kantara 2 and KGF 2, have been backed by Hombale Films, along with Kantara, which is currently the third-highest-grossing Kannada film ever. Meanwhile, Kantara 2 is inching closer to the 650 crore worldwide milestone. After 12 days, it has grossed around 638 crores globally, including about 540 crores from India. The movie is already the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, behind Chhaava, and with its current momentum, it could even challenge for the top spot of the year. Stay tuned...
