Thamma (2025):Can It Surpass Stree 2"™s ₹850 Crore Triumph?

The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) has firmly established itself as one of the most engaging and successful cinematic franchises in recent Indian cinema, redefining the horror-comedy genre with its unique blend of supernatural thrills, humor, and engaging storytelling. The journey began with Stree in 2018, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, which instantly captured the imagination of audiences with its innovative storyline about a mysterious spirit preying on men during a festival season. The film"™s mix of spine-chilling suspense, clever humor, and memorable performances set a new standard for the genre, resulting in massive audience appreciation, strong word-of-mouth, and blockbuster-level collections of ₹ 182.00 Cr Worldwide. With a production budget of ₹30 crore and a worldwide gross of ₹182 crore, Stree emerged as a major box office success. Following this, Bhediya in 2022 brought a fresh dimension to the universe with Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the lead, introducing folklore-inspired werewolf mythology interwoven with comedy. While the buzz around the film was considerable and audiences were intrigued by its unique premise, it didn"™t quite match the phenomenal impact of Stree, culminating in collections of ₹ 94.91 Cr Worldwide.Made on a budget of ₹60 crore, Bhediya earned ₹94.91 crore worldwide, making it a moderate success at the box office. In 2024, Munjya expanded the MHCU further with Sara Ali Khan and Vijay Deverakonda taking the lead, delivering an engaging supernatural story that resonated well with audiences. The film garnered positive responses and commendable advance bookings, reflecting the growing popularity of the universe, and amassed₹ 125 Cr[world wide].With a production budget of ₹30 crore and a worldwide gross of ₹125 crore, Munjya proved to be a profitable and well-received film.. Later that year, the highly anticipated Stree 2 returned to screens with Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao reprising their roles, riding on the massive success and fan following of the original. The pre-release buzz was immense, advance bookings of ₹ 25.63 Cr[With Block Seats] indicated enormous audience interest, and the film lived up to expectations with blockbuster-level collections of ₹ 857.15 Cr, further solidifying the MHCU as a powerhouse franchise in Hindi cinema..The movie had scripted history by becoming the first Hindi film to cross the monumental milestone of ₹ 600 Crore.Produced with a budget of ₹125 crore, as reported by Bollywood Hungama, Stree 2 amassed a massive worldwide collection of ₹857.15 crore, becoming one of the biggest hits in the MHCU. Building on this momentum, Thamma (2025) emerges as the most ambitious and star-studded entry yet, bringing together a powerhouse ensemble cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Varun Dhawan, promising to deliver a mix of horror, comedy, and romance on a grand scale. The film has already created enormous pre-release excitement, with early advance bookings indicating a strong opening day projected at ₹3.39 crore (as of now) and continuing to grow .Scheduled for release on October 21, 2025, during the Diwali weekend, it stands to benefit from the extended festive holiday, giving it a wide window to maximize box office potential. With a production budget of around ₹125 crore and an estimated total landing cost of ₹145 crore, including print and publicity, along with high-quality visuals, engaging storytelling, and the established fanbase of the MHCU, Thamma is expected not only to meet but surpass the success of its predecessors. All indicators suggest that it could outperform even the massive Stree 2, potentially setting new benchmarks in the franchise and emerging as the biggest blockbuster in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe to date. From its innovative story and ensemble cast to the anticipation and excitement generated by early advance bookings, Thamma appears poised to redefine audience expectations and continue the legacy of one of Hindi cinema"™s most exciting franchises.

Producer Boney Kapoor Reacts On The Rumours of Varun Dhawan's No Entry 2

Mumbai, October 13 - The sequel to No Entry (2005) has been in the news for a long time. Anees Bazmee, who directed the original film, will be helming the sequel, which was supposed to be headlined by Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh. However, over the last few weeks, there have been rumours that the comedy film might have undergone a complete cast reshuffle. It was reported that Diljit Dosanjh has exited the movie due to other commitments, while rumours also surfaced online that Varun is also considering dropping the much-awaited film. It was reported that No Entry 2 is set to be shelved due to the exit of the main actors. Now, producer Boney Kapoor has addressed all the rumours surrounding his upcoming film. In a major relief to the fans, the filmmaker confirmed that the sequel, tentatively titled No Entry Mein Entry, is well on track, denying the rumours of the film getting shelved. In a recent interview, the producer confirmed that Varun Dhawan has not exited the project, stating, "We are making No Entry Mein Entry, and Varun and Arjun are very much in the film. We are in active discussions to lock our other hero and the rest of the cast". The sequel will reportedly feature ten heroines and be produced on a grand scale. It marks a fresh chapter in the franchise that began with Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, and Fardeen Khan, two decades ago and became a cult film. The film was supposed to go on floors by the end of this year, but now, there is no clarity when it will start. Stay tuned...

Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Day 1 Early Estimates: Opens On Expected Lines

Mumbai, October 2 - Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has taken a decent start at the box office. The film began on a fair note in the morning shows and made steady progress throughout the day, getting the benefit of the holiday. However, due to the tough competition with Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, the movie failed to make a big impact despite the big holiday, particularly on single screens where the Kannada action drama enjoyed dominance. According to early estimates, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has collected in the range of 9"“10 crore net on its opening day, which is broadly in line with trade expectations. The initial audience feedback is mixed, with appreciation performance and music, but divided opinions on the narrative and overall execution. With Saturday and Sunday still to come, the film's weekend trend will be crucial in determining whether it can consolidate its start and build momentum despite stiff competition. Stay tuned...

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar Box Office Preview/Opening Day Expectations

Mumbai, October 1 - Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's romantic comedy drama Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is gearing up for release this Dussehra, amid some expectations. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film has managed to catch the attention with songs and trailer, which is aimed at the family audience. It has been certified U/A by the CBFC and carries a runtime of 2 hours 15 minutes. Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan are a proven combo, having delivered box office hits like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and the expectations are no different this time either. However, unlike in the past, there are challenges for the film this time. While the trade is expecting this combo to hit the bull's eye, the ground buzz doesn't seem to be that strong. The advance booking of the film was opened a couple of days ago, but it hasn't found momentum with less than a day to go for the release. The pre-sales are proceeding at a slow pace, with the big momentum missing that usually accompanies a festive release. So far, the movie has accumulated approximately 1.40 crore in pre-sales and is heading for a finish around 2.50"“3 crore gross for the opening day. This figure places the film below the advance sale of recent Bollywood releases like Jolly LLB 3 (3.23 crore gross) and Sitaare Zameen Par (3.30 crore gross), both of which managed to open in double digits on Day 1. Given the current trend, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari might struggle to reach that mark and is instead looking at an opening in the 8"“10 crore net range domestically. The film does, however, benefit from the Dussehra holiday, which could give a crucial boost to its spot bookings, especially in urban multiplexes. The challenge lies in single screens, where Kantara: Chapter 1 is enjoying stronger buzz and demand, making the competition tougher for Varun and Janhvi"™s outing. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and backed by Dharma Productions, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf in supporting roles. With positive word of mouth and the holiday advantage, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari still has a chance to build momentum post its release, but its opening day numbers are likely to stay modest compared to recent big festive Bollywood launches. Shraddha Kapoor Announces Animated Film Chhoti Stree Before Stree 3

Mumbai, September 27 - Producer Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films is expanding its horror comedy universe and is set to introduce an animated film on Stree. The official announcement of the film was made on Saturday, 26, during the trailer launch event of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna-fronted Thamma. Maddock had been teasing a big surprise for the past few days, and it was finally revealed during the Thamma trailer launch. The event was also attended by Shraddha Kapoor, who has been the biggest star of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe with blockbuster films like Stree and Stree 2. While all eyes were on the Thamma trailer, Shraddha delighted the fans that before Stree 3, there will be an animated film titled Chhoti Stree based on the popular character. The animated movie will explore the backstory of Stree and will reportedly end with a scene of Stree 3, which will be released in 2027. "Kids and adults all watch Stree together. The interesting bit about Chhoti Stree is the way Amar and Niren have conceptualised it. It'll end with a scene from Stree 3. So, it'll transform from an animation to a live-action movie in the end. It'll also answer the question ki Stree ki back story kya hai. It'll arrive 6 months before Stree 3", Shraddha said. Meanwhile, Thamma, directed by Munjya fame Aditya Sarpotdar, is scheduled to release on October 21 on the occasion of Diwali. The film will feature a cameo of Varun Dhawan's Bhediya and is also linked with Munjya. Stay tuned...

Kantara Chapter 1 Makers Spark Dispute In Hindi Belt With Unreasonable Showcasing Demands Against Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari

Mumbai, September 26 - The Dussehra 2025 box office clash between South biggie Kantara Chapter 1 and the much-awaited Bollywood romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari seems to be taking an ugly turn after the makers demand exclusive excessive showcasing for the Kantara prequel. With less than a week to go before the release, the makers of both films are leaving no stone unturned to make their films reach the maximum audience, and in between, a dispute over showcasing has started making headlines. According to the report by Bollywood Hungama, AA Films, the distributors of Kanatar 2, have sent an email to the exhibitors regarding their requirement for the shows. It is said that "they have demanded that all shows in single-screen and 12 shows in two-screen cinemas. The latter also amounts to all shows; they mention the same clearly in the mail to avoid any confusion. Shockingly, they have also asked for 18 shows in three-screen multiplexes, which, in other words, also amounts to every show." The Kantara makers are very well aware that Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar is releasing on the same day, yet they have asked for such a showcase in the Hindi belt, which is not just unreasonable, but also laughable. An exhibitor, on condition of anonymity, told Bollywood Hungama, "I don't agree with this unreasonable demand. We understand that Kantara is a highly anticipated film. But then, even Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also looks like a fun entertainer, which will attract family audiences and youth. Hence, I'd like to play that film as well." The report further states that AA Films has demanded 100% shows in IMAX properties, along with a higher percentage of shows in theatres with 4-screens and beyond. It needs to be seen how things turn out, but at the moment, it doesn't look like the game is fair. Stay tuned...

High Voltage Bijuria Song From Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Out Now

Mumbai, September 3 - The much-awaited Bijuria song from Dharma Productions' upcoming romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, has been released, and as expected, it is a perfect recreation of the iconic 1999 song by Sonu Nigam. Sung by Sonu Nigam and Asees Kaur, the recreation of the song instantly made an impression. In the video song, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor are seen in a party mood where Varun is trying to impress Janhvi, who is looking super hot in a golden saree, as the duo sets the stage on fire. Apart from Varun and Janhvi, the song also features Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf, who play the second lead in the movie. The peppy number is a perfect ode to Sonu Nigam's old song. The new version is reimagined by Tanishk Bagchi, who has also written the additional lyrics in the original song written by Sonu Nigam. Talking about the film, SSKTK is directed by Shashak Khaitaan and produced by Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment. It is scheduled to release on October 2nd worldwide. Stay tuned...

Sidharth Malhotra's Top 5 Opening Weekend Grossers: Param Sundari At No. 4 Behind Student of The Year

Mumbai, September 1 - Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra returns to the big screen with the romantic-comedy Param Sundari, which is off to a good start at the box office. The movie carried a decent buzz, which also translated into footfalls on the expected lines. Param Sundari scored the opening weekend collection of around 27 crores net, which is among the biggest of his career, but the biggest opening weekend still belongs to Brothers, which released in 2015 and also starred Akshay Kumar. The action drama opened to good numbers and collected around 52 crore in its first three days. Close behind Brothers is romantic action thriller Ek Villain (2014), which turned out to be a game-changer for Sidharth. With its strong music and gripping storyline, the film earned over 50 crores net in its opening weekend and cemented the actor's standing among the bankable young stars of that time. Sidharth's debut film, Student of the Year (2012), backed by Karan Johar, continues to hold a special place. Despite being a launchpad for three newcomers, Sidharth, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt, the film impressed at the ticket windows with a 30 crore weekend. More than a decade later, it still outshines some of his recent work, including Param Sundari, when it comes to the opening performance. Just behind Param Sundari, which is the 4th biggest opening weekend grosser of the actor, is Kapoor & Sons (2016), which managed 26 crore despite not being promoted as a mass entertainer. Another notable film is Marjaavaan (2019), which collected over 24 crore but couldn't break into the top five weekend grossers of Sidharth. With Param Sundari placing fourth in his career's biggest opening weekends, it's evident that Sidharth's strongest box office impact so far has come from action-packed or ensemble films. As he continues to explore new genres, fans and trade alike will be watching closely to see if he can surpass the benchmark set by Brothers and deliver an even bigger opening in the future. Here Are Sidharth Malhotra's Top 5 Opening Weekend Grossers (India Net) Rank Film Title Opening Weekend Collection Release Year 1.Brothers₹ 52.00 Cr2015 2.Ek Villain₹ 50.65 Cr2014 3.Student of the Year₹ 30.00 Cr2012 4.Param Sundari₹ 26.75 Cr2025 5.Kapoor & Sons₹ 26.20 Cr2016 Stay tuned...

From Student of the Year to Param Sundari: 13 Years of Sidharth Malhotra's Cinematic Journey

Mumbai, August 28 - Very few would have imagined the journey Sidharth Malhotra was going to have when he made his Bollywood debut with filmmaker Karan Johar's coming-of-age romantic comedy Student of the Year in 2012. Over the last 13 years, the actor has left a mark with films across romance, action, thrillers, and war drama genres. As he now gears up for his 2025 release, Param Sundari, here's a look at the highlights of his cinematic journey so far. The Debut and Early Success Filmmaker Karan Johar, famous for launching star kids in Bollywood, launched Sidharth alongside Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in Student of the Year (2012), a youthful drama that became a commercial success and positioned him as a promising newcomer. He followed it up with Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), a quirky rom-com where his chemistry with Parineeti Chopra was appreciated, and Ek Villain (2014), which marked his entry into the big league. Experimentation and Mixed Bag Phase After the big early success, Sidharth tested different genres over the next few years. In Brothers (2015), he attempted a high-intensity sports drama with superstar Akshay Kumar, as the film ended up as an average affair. Kapoor & Sons (2016), however, turned out to be a critical and commercial hit, showcasing him in an ensemble with a layered family drama. Films like Baar Baar Dekho (2016), A Gentleman (2017), Ittefaq (2017), and Aiyaary (2018) received mixed to negative responses, making this a challenging period for the actor. The Resurgence & Patriotic Turn Sidharth bounced back with Marjaavaan (2019), a massy romantic action film with seetimaar dialogues that connected with single-screen audiences. It was the biographical war drama, Shershaah (2021), that could have become the biggest box office success of the actor, but it was denied that chance due to its direct-to-digital release. It was still a game-changer for the actor as his portrayal of Captain Vikram Batra won widespread acclaim, bringing him critical respect, as he was hailed for delivering his career-best performance. Recent Works & Looking Ahead Post-Shershaah, Sidharth ventured into diverse territories. He shared screen with Ajay Devgn in the fantasy comedy-drama film Thank God (2022), which bombed at the box office, before he starred in a direct-to-digital release, Mission Majnu (2023), a patriotic spy thriller, and Yodha (2024), a high-octane action film. The actor's journey after the COVID-19 pandemic has hit a roadblock with no big success, barring Shershaah, which saved the day for him. The actor is now stepping into romantic comedy once again with Param Sundari (2025), co-starring Janhvi Kapoor. Billed as a breezy entertainer, the film is already generating buzz as a genre comeback for Sidharth after years of intense roles. The movie, from Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, is gearing up to hit the big screens on August 29, as a potential success for the actor. Across 13 years, Sidharth Malhotra's cinematic journey has had highs and lows, but what stands out is his resilience and ability to reinvent himself. From the candy-floss romance of Student of the Year to the grit of Shershaah, and now towards the playful charm of Param Sundari, he continues to remain a relevant and evolving presence in Bollywood. Going forward, the actor continues to experiment, as his next is a folk thriller, Vvan: Force of the Forrest, which releases next year. Stay tuned...
