Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Vs Kantara Karnataka Box Office Comparison

Bengaluru, October 15 - In a remarkable feat, Rishab Shetty's period folk action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 has emerged as the highest-grossing movie ever in Karnataka, surpassing its predecessor Kantara, which itself had an extraordinary run back in 2022. The original Kantara started on a slow note at the box office but soon turned into a cultural and commercial phenomenon across Karnataka and other Indian markets, driven by exceptionally strong word of mouth. Kantara Chapter 1, serving as a prequel to that story, stands as a testament to the legacy the first film created. The latest blockbuster has not only rewritten box office history in the state but is also poised to become the first film to cross the 200 crore mark in Karnataka "” an unprecedented achievement. When comparing both films' state runs, it's clear that the prequel has dominated the early weeks by a massive margin. However, while the original Kantara displayed incredible longevity with minimal drops week after week, Kantara Chapter 1 is more front-loaded, owing to its record-breaking opening. The prequel is expected to drop around 55% in its second week "” still a solid hold "” whereas the first film had shown growth during the same period, maintaining its momentum through sustained audience love. Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Storms Past 500 Crore At The Indian Box Office; Second Film of 2025 To Do So

Mumbai, October 12 - There is no stopping Kantara Chapter 1, which continues to wreak havoc at the box office. The period folk action thriller has stormed past the 500 crores milestone domestically and 600 crores worldwide through the second weekend, becoming only the second film of the year to do so. Written, directed, and headlined by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 has an excellent second weekend with over 100 crores gross at the Indian box office. On its second Sunday, the movie is looking to score around 45 crores, which takes its total domestic gross to over 500 crores. The prequel is expected to reach around 520 crores at the end of the day, making it the second Indian film of the year, after Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava, to breach the 500 crores mark. It has also topped 600 crores worldwide on the same day, which is the second biggest of 2025 behind Kaushal-starrer. Kantara 2 is the 15th Indian film and 8th South Indian title of all-time to hit the milestone of 500 crores domestically. The last film to achieve the feat was Chhaava, while among the South Indian titles, it was Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule, which set the box office on fire. Kantara: Chapter 1 and Rishab Shetty "” The Cultural Blockbuster That Surpassed Vicky Kaushal"™s Chhaava

In 2025, Indian cinema has been defined by a spectacular clash of narratives and audience passions, exemplified by the extraordinary journeys of Kantara: Chapter 1 and Chhaava, two films that, while radically different in style and storytelling, have both captured the imagination of viewers nationwide and across the globe; Chhaava, the historical epic led by Vicky Kaushal, entered theatres with a thunderous wave of anticipation, leveraging meticulously crafted visuals, grand set pieces, heroic storytelling, and the magnetic pull of its star, immediately commanding packed advance bookings, buzzing premieres, and sold-out screenings in India and key overseas markets, culminating in an India gross of approximately ₹290.75 crore and a worldwide total nearing ₹338.75 crore by its eighth day, a feat fueled by audience fascination with its scale, historical depth, and cinematic spectacle, while Kantara: Chapter 1, the mythological action-drama rooted in Karnataka"™s rich folklore, cultural traditions, and spiritual themes, carved out a different but equally remarkable path to triumph, achieving an India gross of ₹403.25 crore and worldwide earnings approaching ₹475.25 crore in the same timeframe, propelled not by conventional stardom but by storytelling that resonated deeply with viewers, glowing word-of-mouth, repeat theater visits, and pan-India engagement through Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil dubbed versions, and, in contrast, succeeded through authenticity and emotional resonance, its depiction of folklore, spiritual themes, and rural conflict turning theaters into communal experiences where audiences became ambassadors for the film; unlike big-budget spectacles, Kantara grew through word-of-mouth, repeat viewings, and sustained weekday occupancy, with its eighth-day earnings highlighting its staying power, and its cultural relevance and pan-India appeal have made it not just a regional hit, but a nationwide phenomenon, demonstrating that a story rooted in tradition can rise above even the largest epics to achieve unprecedented commercial success The clash between Kantara: Chapter 1 and Chhaava highlights two very different but equally powerful forces in Indian cinema. One thrives on cultural authenticity, emotional storytelling, and organic audience love; the other commands attention through scale, stardom, and spectacle. Both films have demonstrated that success can take many forms "” whether through mythology or history, folklore or grandeur, emotional resonance or star power. In the ongoing battle of the box office, Kantara has established itself as a force to be reckoned with, proving that grounded, heartfelt storytelling can compete with even the biggest cinematic spectacles. Meanwhile, Chhaava reaffirms that larger-than-life narratives and star charisma still have unparalleled drawing power. Together, they define the cinematic landscape of 2025, offering audiences both depth and drama, soul and spectacle.

Top 10 Biggest First Week Grossers of 2025 In Hindi: Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Fifth

Mumbai, October 10 - Amid the dominance of outright Bollywood films, a South Indian title has also made a noise as far as the biggest first earners of 2025 in Hindi are concerned. Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 has lived up to the expectations to score 100+ crores opening week in the dubbed Hindi version. The film's Hindi version has scored a good first-week collection of 107 crore net, making it the fifth biggest first-week grosser of 2025 in Hindi. The achievement is even more impressive considering it's a dubbed Kannada release competing with some of Bollywood's biggest franchises and star-studded blockbusters. Vicky Kaushal's mega blockbuster Chhaava is the biggest opening week grosser of 2025 in Hindi, with dominating numbers of 219 crore, setting a new benchmark for Hindi films this year. It's followed by Yash Raj Films' unexpected blockbuster Saiyaara, starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, with 173 crores, while Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's War 2 is third in the list with 150 crores first week. Here are the top 10 biggest first-week net-grossers of 2025 in Hindi - 1. Chhaava "“ 219.25 crore 2. Saiyaara "“ 172.75 crore 3. War 2 "“ 150.40 crore 4. Housefull 5 "“ 127.25 crore 5. With multiple 100 crore openers and even mid-range films showing resilience, 2025 is set to hear for a solid end with a few potential blockbusters lined up to release in the remaining months. Top Bollywood Films Post-Pandemic Footfalls Ranking: Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan Leads As Six Movies Top 3 Crore Admits

Mumbai, September 14 "“ The post-pandemic era has been a rollercoaster for Bollywood, with the industry witnessing both unprecedented highs and major setbacks. The box office dynamics in this age and era have changed drastically, where the brand value doesn't guarantee success. However, in the post-pandemic world, Bollywood has reached new highs, not just once, but on many occasions, with record collections, and those films have managed to pull massive footfalls, reaffirming the enduring charm of the big screen. According to the estimates, six Bollywood blockbusters have managed to breach the coveted 3 crore footfalls mark since cinemas reopened in late 2021, proving that audiences are still willing to flock to theatres when offered the right blend of entertainment, star power, and emotion. Topping the list is Shah Rukh Khan's action phenomenon Jawan, which stands tall with 3.80 crore admissions, making it the most-watched Bollywood film of the post-pandemic period. The film's pan-India appeal, coupled with Atlee's mass entertainer packaging, made it a cultural event across the country. Not far behind is SRK's comeback film Pathaan, which kick-started the revival wave for Hindi cinema in early 2023. Dhamaal 4 Wraps Filming: Ajay Devgn and Team Re-confirm A Blockbuster Box Office Clash As Complete Cast Reveal

Mumbai, September 6 "“ The wait for one of Bollywood's most beloved comedy franchises just got more exciting as the shoot of Dhamaal 4, directed by Indra Kumar, has officially wrapped up, and the makers have reconfirmed its release date for Eid 2026. Fronted by Ajay Devgn, the fourth instalment brings back the iconic trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, and Jaaved Jaaferi, who have been synonymous with the franchise's success. The upcoming film also marks the return of Sanjay Mishra and Esha Gupta from the last film, while also featuring Upendra Limaye, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Ravi Kishan. Produced by T-Series, Maruti International, Ajay Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, one of the most star-studded comedies in recent years promises to be a laughter-filled extravaganza that continues the legacy of Indra Kumar's comedy blockbusters. The Dhamaal franchise has been a fan-favourite since its inception, and with Ajay Devgn leading the madness this time, expectations are sky-high for another box office riot. Perfect But Highly Risky Release Date While Eid is a lucrative festive weekend for the box office, it is going to be a highly risky affair for the 2026 release. With Dhamaal 4 sticking to the original plan, the movie will have to face a mighty clash with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal's Love & War, along with Yash's Toxic, which are slated for a March 19 debut. It needs to be seen if all three films, arrive on Eid 2026, which is unlikely.

Shah Rukh Khan's King To Not Release On Gandhi Jayanti 2026? Possible New Date Revealed

Mumbai, August 27 - Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in director Rajkumar Hirani's comedy drama, Dunki, in December 2023. Since then, he has been working on his next, which is an action thriller King, with his Pathaan director Siddharth Anand. King went on floors in June this year, but an unfortunate shoulder injury to Shah Rukh Khan, which he sustained while filming for an action sequence, has proved to be a roadblock. King Khan was advised to rest for a couple of months before he resumes filming, and that has reportedly altered the release plans. According to the report by Mid-day, King, which was reportedly eying the Gandhi Jayanti 2026 release, has now been pushed back due to a delay in the shoot. "Shah Rukh needs to rest it out for weeks before he can face the camera again. It is an action-heavy film, so the team doesn"™t want to take a chance with his health", says the report. While the official release date has not been announced yet, a recent report by peepingmoon.com suggested that Shah Rukh Khan and director Anand are eyeing Christmas 2026 as the possible theatrical release date. The chances have become bright for this date after the postponement of Vicky Kaushal's ambitious Mahavatar. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix, King marks SRK's first screen outing with daughter Suhana Khan, who makes her big screen debut with this. The film also stars Deepika Padukone as the female lead alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, and Abhay Verma in key roles. Stay tuned...

Big Change: Maddock Films' Ambitious Mahavatar Opts Out of Christmas 2026 Slot Amid Vicky Kaushal's Scheduling Conflict

Mumbai, August 25 - Vicky Kaushal's ambitious epic action drama Mahavatar is no longer releasing on Christmas 2026, as the makers have reportedly postponed it to 2027 amid the shooting delay. The lucrative festive holiday period is now vacant for other films to occupy. According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, Mahavatar shoot has been delayed to next year amid Kaushal's scheduling conflict. To be directed by Amar Kaushik, the film was originally planned to start rolling by the end of 2025, which is reportedly not happening as the actor's Love and War with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is taking longer than expected to wrap. Apart from scheduling conflict with Love and War, Vicky Kaushal will also have to undergo months of intensive physical training to achieve the muscular physique necessary for his role in Mahavatar, which is based on Lord Parashurama. The report says that the makers are now eyeing to take the film on floors by April 2026. Produced by Maddock Films, Mahavatar is expected to be shot over a period of 6 months, followed by lengthy post-production work due to its heavy reliance on VFX. While the studio has not locked a new release date yet, the report says it might hit the big screen on Independence Day weekend 2027. If that happens, then the studio's Stree 3, which is currently slated for the same weekend, will be delayed. Mahavatar is the most ambitious production of Maddock Films yet, and the studio is leaving no stone unturned to make a visual spectacle on the big screens. In the movie, Vicky plays Lord Parashurama, who is the sixth avatar among the Dashavatara of the preserver god Vishnu. He is one of the Chiranjivi (Immortals), who will appear at the end of the Kali Yuga to be the guru of Vishnu's tenth and last incarnation, Kalki. Stay tuned...

Top 10 Biggest Indian Overseas Grossers of 2025: Rajinikanth's Coolie Rules the Charts

Mumbai, August 31 - 2025 has turned into a good year so far for Indian films in the overseas market, with movies from the Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam industries making a splash at the global box office. From grand romantic sagas to star-powered action blockbusters, audiences across the world have embraced Indian cinema like never before. Sun Pictures' gangster action drama, Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, was released on August 14, and within no time, it has stormed to the top spot among the biggest Indian grossers at the overseas box office. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is yet to complete its first weekend, already grossing over 150 crores overseas in 5 days. Yash Raj Films' romantic drama, Saiyaara, starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, became a global sensation. This has been the biggest success story of Indian cinema this year. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara blended soulful music, passionate storytelling, and stunning visuals, making it a cross-cultural hit. The film's theme connected not only with Indian audiences but across the world, making it the biggest Indian blockbuster in the international market. The Malayalam megahit, Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was hit by controversy in India, but that didn't stop it from making a big hit at the box office, not just in India but also internationally. It continued the Lucifer saga with high-octane political intrigue and action. The film"™s international fan base, built from the first part, turned Empuraan into a global blockbuster. Thudarum, one of the biggest Malayalam blockbusters in recent times, stunned the trade and went on to score big at the box office. The action thriller, starring Mohanlal, did wonders globally and became one of only three Malayalam titles to cross 200 crores worldwide, including close to 100 crores gross from overseas markets. The historical epic, Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, impressed both domestic and global audiences and is currently the biggest Indian grosser worldwide with over 800 crores in collection. This Laxman Utekar's directorial's grand battle sequences, rich production design, and a patriotic storyline drove its stellar overseas run with close to 100 crores gross. Housefull 5, Bollywood's favourite comedy franchise, returned bigger and zanier. Despite the disappointment of not living up to expectations, this Akshay Kumar-led film did decently at the box office and is so far among the top overseas grossers. The film's mixed slapstick humour, exotic locations, and star power captured the attention of family audiences abroad, especially in the Gulf and the UK. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly marked a major comeback for superstar Ajith Kumar, after the big failure of Vidaamuyarchi. Ajith's vintage avatar in the movie was celebrated by the fans worldwide. It became the first film of the actor to hit 200 crores worldwide gross, including a good performance in overseas markets. War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has underperformed at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. In the first 5 days, the film grossed approximately 63 crores internationally. The movie is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films. After the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan returned to winning ways with Sitaare Zameen Par, a heartfelt comedy-drama that follows a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament. Just like Ajith Kumar, SZP proved to be a comeback movie for Aamir Khan by emerging as a box office hit in India and overseas. Sikandar, one of the major letdowns of the year, this Salman Khan-led action drama failed to perform to expectations despite featuring among the top 10 biggest overseas grossers.
