Box Office: Doctor Strange 2 Becomes Biggest Grosser of 2022 Worldwide

Mumbai, May 23 - Marvel Studios has once again claimed the top position at the box office as "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" has become the highest-grossing movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office. ## The superhero movie, directed by Sam Raimi, has crossed the $800 million global mark, which includes $342.1 million from domestic (North America) and $461.1 million from the international box office, for a total $803.2 million through 3rd weekend. The numbers become even more strong knowing the fact that the movie hasn't been released in China and Russia, two of the biggest movie markets. ## Among 28 Marvel Cinematic Universe films (and excluding China and Russia), "Doctor Strange 2" lands at No. 11 so far on a global basis. It is currently the only film of 2022 to top $800 million, and the second-highest-grossing Hollywood title during the covid-19 pandemic, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home" ($1.89 billion). Warner Bros' "The Batman" is the second-biggest movie of 2022 worldwide with $768 million. ## Among the top international markets, Korea remains the top contributor with $45.9M, followed by the UK ($43.8M), Mexico ($35.7M), Brazil ($29.2M), and Australia ($23M). Mumbai, May 13 - Marvel is the biggest non-domestic movie brand in India and it has been proved once again with the studios' latest superhero flick, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness". ## Directed by the maverick Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has crossed the prestigious 100 crores net mark at the Indian box office and becomes the second non-domestic film in 5 months to reach the figure. Earlier, Marvel/Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" did it with ease and went on to score over 260 crores gross. ## The sequel to 2016's movie has broken into the 100 crores net club in the first week itself with Rs. 104 crores for all languages. 'Doctor Strange 2' Off To Heroic Launch In North America As It Crosses $450M Worldwide

Mumbai, May 8 - The dominance of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe at the box office continues as the studios' latest superhero movie "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" is off to a heroic start in North America with $187 million in the 3-day opening weekend. ## The $187 million launch marks the 11th biggest opening weekend in North American box office history and the biggest of 2022, beating Warner Bros' "The Batman" ($134M). This is also the biggest opening for Dinsey since "The Lion King" ($191M) in 2019. The Sam Raimi-directed movie also came above the industry's 160M-180M projections. ## Interestingly, at the domestic box office, the "Doctor Strange" sequel outscored its predecessor's entire opening weekend tally in a single day. "Doctor Strange 2" raked in $90 million on Friday alone, while the 2016 blockbuster brought in $85 million between Friday and Sunday. ## Internationally, "Doctor Strange 2" earned a whopping $262.4 million from 49 territories, taking the global total to $449.4 million through Sunday (May 8). Box Office: Doctor Strange 2 Advance Booking Status And Opening Day Prediction In India

Mumbai, May 5 - Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was one of the first films to bring the Indian box office on its strong feet with big box office numbers in December last year. And now, another Marvel movie with Disney, "Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness" is ready to roar in India. ## Directed by Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has been one of the most-awaited non-Indian movies and the advance booking for the same was opened nearly a month before its release on May 6 in multiple languages. As expected, the superhero movie is getting a phenomenal response in the advance sales as it has already reached 28 crores gross. ## The original English version of the movie is leading the advance sales with approx. 19.70 crores gross, including all formats, followed by the Hindi version with approx. 7 crores gross. Director Sam Raimi Reveals The Main Goal Behind The Reshoots Of 'Doctor Strange 2'

Mumbai, May 1 - Marvel Studios' "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" is finally releasing in theaters worldwide next week. However, it hasn't been easy for Marvel to work on this highly anticipated sequel to 2016's movie as it went through a lot of delays and changes for various reasons. ## "Doctor Strange 2" might have been released a little earlier if it had not gone through reshoots late last year. At that time, it was unknown to everyone why Marvel was asking for the film's reshoots, however, director Sam Raimi recently revealed the main goals for the reshoots in an interview. ## "There's a lot of points where the audience says - I don't understand this. I don't understand this concept. Or, I'm aware of this concept, and then you explained it again in the third act, Oh, you're right, the audience knows that already. Or 'They had to know that in order to accept this next story beat. A lot of it is test screenings, learning what is confusing on a complex picture like this, or learning things that have overstayed their welcome", Raimi told Rolling Stone (via comic book).## "Recognizing when something is too slow, and even though it's a proper beat to put in, the audience doesn't need it. They can figure that out on their own, so what seemed like a logical step now becomes, in the editing process - Hmm. That's slowing us down. Let's skip it and let the audience make the leap themselves. But it's also about recognizing what they really like, and sometimes expanding those things that they're really reacting well to. It's recognizing what's original about the picture, and when you've got the opportunity to, expanding upon that", he added. ## The reshoots might have made the film more engaging which will be known once the movie is out in cinemas on May 6. It has also been banned in Egypt and Kuwait, which hasn't been confirmed yet. ## According to reports, the decision of banning "Doctor Strange 2" in the Middle East" nation is associated with its LGBTQ issues, as it is introducing the character America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez) who, as per her portrayal in the comics, is gay.
