Kochi, December 1 - Mohanlal's Drishyam 3 has taken a monumental step forward, as the makers have reportedly sealed a historical business deal with Panorama Studios. The franchise, already a benchmark in Indian thriller cinema, is now gearing up for its final chapter, signalling a massive nationwide and global release strategy. Panorama Studios, known for backing and distributing major Bollywood titles, recently acquired the distribution rights. The studio already had Hindi remake rights of the film. This significant partnership ensures that Drishyam 3 will enjoy an expansive release, far beyond the traditional boundaries of Malayalam cinema. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to the reports, Aashirvad Cinemas, the original producer of the Malayalam blockbuster franchise, has secured a huge 3-digit figure from theatrical + other rights alone from Panorama. Panorama now holds full ownership and will decide the release date and other plans regarding the movie. It is said that Kerala release of Drishyam 3 will be through Ashirvaad Cinemas, and that's their only involvement now onwards. Even though all rights are now with Panorama, the Malayalam version of Drishyam 3 will be released first in theatres worldwide, while the Hindi version, which is scheduled to go on floors this December, will arrive later. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The scale of the deal highlights the extraordinary brand value the Drishyam series holds after the massive success of the first two parts. To put things in perspective, the deal is worth 350+ crores in business for a Malayalam title, which is truly historical as no Malayalam film has ever done this much business. With Mohanlal returning as the iconic Georgekutty and Jeethu Joseph once again helming the project, expectations are soaring for the upcoming film. As anticipation builds, Drishyam 3 is already being touted as one of the biggest Mollywood films ever. This historic deal not only solidifies the franchise's legacy but also marks another major leap for Malayalam cinema on the national stage. Stay tuned...

Malayalam cinema continues its exciting horror streak, and Dies Irae arrives right on cue — atmospheric, unsettling, and technically sharp. Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, the film marks a powerful step forward for Pranav Mohanlal, headlining what feels like a genre milestone for Mollywood horror. The title itself, “Dies Irae,” comes from Latin meaning “Day of Wrath” — famously known as a medieval hymn sung in the Mass for the dead. It sets the tone for what the film aims to be: ominous, intense and rooted in psychological dread. Dies Irae isn’t built on jump scares — it leans into mood, paranoia and emotional unease. Pranav Mohanlal plays a character caught in a spiraling psychological trap — is it grief, guilt, a haunting presence, or something far more primal and supernatural? Instead of loud horror beats, the film lingers, unsettles and stays with you long after the credits roll. Rahul Sadasivan has quietly become one of Malayalam cinema’s most dependable voices in horror. With films like Bhoothakaalam, a critically acclaimed psychological chiller, and Bramayugam, an experimental black-and-white folk-horror led by Mammootty that earned both critical praise and box-office success, he has shown that Malayalam horror can be mature, atmospheric and emotionally grounded. Dies Irae feels like a natural extension of that journey — taking his signature mood-driven style forward with even more intention and confidence. Early audience response has been overwhelmingly positive, with viewers praising the film’s immersive sound design and technical polish. Pranav Mohanlal’s performance is being highlighted as intense, controlled and arguably his career-best, while many appreciated how the film sustains tension without relying on cheap thrills. First-show reactions call Dies Irae “technically outstanding,” “edge-of-the-seat,” and “bold filmmaking that deserves a theatrical watch,” with particular applause for its soundscape and mixing — elements that several viewers felt elevate the horror to an international standard. Dies Irae isn’t your typical horror entertainer — it’s atmospheric, patient, tastefully crafted and deeply unsettling, the kind of film that rewards attention and truly demands a big-screen experience. Pranav Mohanlal delivers his most mature performance yet, anchoring the story with quiet intensity, while Rahul Sadasivan further strengthens his position as one of the most compelling horror voices in Indian cinema today. Overall, the film stands as a worthy addition to Malayalam cinema’s evolving and increasingly confident horror legacy.

Kochi, November 1 - Director Rahul Sadasivan, known for his acclaimed horror thrillers Bhoothakaalam and Bramayugam, has struck again with his latest horror film, Dies Irae, starring Pranav Mohanlal. The movie has opened to glowing reviews from both critics and audiences, marking another big win for Malayalam cinema in 2025. Dies Irae had its premiere on October 30, earning approximately 1 crore domestically through limited shows. The film expanded widely on Friday and witnessed an excellent response at the box office. As per early estimates, it collected around 4.50 crore on its first full day, taking the total domestic gross to roughly 5.50 crore. The film's opening marks the third biggest of 2025 for a Malayalam title, behind only L2: Empuraan and Thudarum, and also stands as the biggest-ever debut for an A-rated Malayalam film. Within Kerala, Dies Irae grossed approximately 4.75 crore, the fourth highest first-day gross of the year, while the rest of India contributed about 80 lakh. The worldwide opening of the film is over 10 crores, making it the 15th Malayalam film of all time and the third of 2025 to do so. With positive word of mouth, the movie is expected to have an excellent opening weekend. This also marks the first double-digit opening for a Malayalam adult-rated (18+) film. Stay tuned...

The Drishyam franchise has always been about timing, tension, and perfectly-placed secrets — and interestingly, that drama is now unfolding behind the screen too. While director Jeethu Joseph’s original plan was to roll out Drishyam 3 simultaneously in Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi, the ambitious multilingual dream has now hit turbulence. The Malayalam version — led by Mohanlal — is currently the only one on steady ground. The film is said to be in motion, marking the next chapter in Georgekutty’s iconic journey. With the director and original team aligned, the Malayalam instalment remains the core focus at the moment. The Telugu and Hindi versions, headlined by Venkatesh and Ajay Devgn respectively, are currently experiencing delays on multiple fronts. The Telugu production is said to be impacted by scheduling constraints, with Venkatesh committed to prior projects, while the Hindi version is reportedly navigating pace-slowing rights and legal discussions. Although the initial intention was to mount all versions together as a unified franchise rollout, aligning timelines, creative execution, and contractual clarity across industries has proven more complex than anticipated. While Malayalam fans are thrilled, there’s a key challenge here: If the Malayalam version releases first, the mystery — which is the franchise’s core strength — risks being revealed early. And for a thriller series built on twists, even a hint of the plot can dilute excitement elsewhere.Trade circles feel this could directly impact the theatrical performance of the Hindi and Telugu versions. Drishyam is a franchise where suspense isn’t just a tool — it’s the box office engine. It set a benchmark by delivering powerful thrillers across languages with tightly-kept secrets and coordinated release strategies. A unified Drishyam 3 rollout would have been a rare cinematic moment — three industries, one mystery. For now, though, that plan appears paused. Georgekutty is moving first. Whether Vijay Salgaonkar and Ram Babu follow closely — or wait from the sidelines — depends on how the production and rights puzzle resolves. For now, Malayalam audiences hold the first seat to the next big chapter. In short: an early Malayalam release may strengthen original-language hype but could weaken nationwide momentum for the other versions.

Kochi, September 21 - Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero action spectacle Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra continues its record-breaking journey at the worldwide box office, and has become the highest-grossing film of all-time for Malayalam cinema, by beating Mohanlal's Empuraan in 24 days. Apart from being the biggest Mollywood blockbuster, Lokah registered a feat no Malayalam film has ever managed before. The film has emerged as the first from the industry to cross 100 crores in the home state of Kerala, 100 crores in overseas markets, and 50 crores in the rest of India, emerging as a true Pan-India blockbuster. This rare triple achievement underscores the film's widespread acceptance among audiences both at home and abroad. The Kerala market, traditionally the backbone of Malayalam cinema, has been the strongest pillar for Lokah. By racing past the 100 crore milestone in the state alone, the film has set a new benchmark for future blockbusters. It is only the second film after Thudarum to cross 100 crores in the state. Equally impressive has been its overseas performance, where it too breached the 100 crore mark, driven by strong collections in the Middle East and North America. Meanwhile, Lokah has also managed to penetrate the wider Indian market beyond Kerala, collecting over 50 crores from other states. This is a remarkable result for a Malayalam film, signalling its crossover appeal and rising pan-Indian recognition. With this triple strike, Lokah cements its place as a game-changer for the industry. After 24 days, the film's worldwide collection stands at around 271 crores, including over 156 crores in India. It needs to be seen how the movie fares in coming days, which will determine if it can go past 300 crores milestone and become the historic first for the content factory of Inndia cinema. Dominic Arun's directorial is wreaking havoc in the international markets, and has topped $10 million gross collection in just 11 days. With this feat, Dulquer Salmaan's production has placed itself among the rare Malayalam films to touch such numbers internationally. The film's overseas performance is particularly significant as it has joined the elite club of Malayalam movies led by Mohanlal's Empuraan and Thudarum in the $10 million club. Before 2025, not a single Malayalam film reached $10 million overseas box office milestone, and now, the industry has three titles in the coveted club. In 11 days, it has grossed 91 crores ($10.3+ million). Superstar Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan is currently the highest-grossing Mollywood film with 124.50 crores ($13.75+ million), followed by his Thudarum with 94 crores ($10.50+ million). Industry experts attribute the movie's success to its universal appeal, a strong narrative rooted in mythological fantasy, and Kalyani's standout performance, which has received glowing reviews. Despite being mounted as a massive Pan India spectacle starring Mollywood legend Mohanlal, Vrusshabha has failed to find an audience. Released in multiple languages, the film struggled to even cross the starting line across most territories, ending its first week with shockingly low numbers. Marketed as a multi language spectacle in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, the film struggled across all territories. Weak writing, poor visual effects, and lack of promotional buzz resulted in embarrassingly low numbers, making it one of the biggest commercial failures of 2025. Vrusshabha Total Box Office Collection Summary (7 Days) Category Collection (Approx) India Net Collection ₹ 1.64 Cr India Gross Collection ₹ 1.91 Cr Overseas Collection ₹ 0.25 Cr Worldwide Collection ₹ 2.16 Cr Verdict Disaster Until the release of Vrusshabha, 2025 was shaping up to be one of the most successful years in Mohanlal's storied career. He had delivered a rare hat-trick of blockbusters: the massive action spectacle L2: Empuraan (₹ 266.81 Cr worldwide), the crime thriller Thudarum (₹ 235.38 Cr worldwide), and the family drama Hridayapoorvam ( ₹ 76.25 Cr worldwide). Collectively, these three films grossed over ₹600 Cr, reaffirming his status as the ultimate box office draw. Vrusshabha, however, has brought this golden run to a screeching halt. With a worldwide gross of just ₹2.16 Cr in its first week, the film failed to recover even 3% of its reported ₹70 Cr budget, marking a rare and massive commercial dent in his recent track record. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Timing played a crucial role in Vrusshabha's collapse. The film was released at the height of the Dhurandhar phenomenon, a Hindi blockbuster that was recording historic double digit collections for nearly 30 consecutive days. While Dhurandhar dominated the Pan India audience, the local Malayalam market was also split by Nivin Pauly's horror-comedy Sarvam Maya. Unlike Vrusshabha, which struggled to hit the ₹1 Cr mark on its opening day, Sarvam Maya enjoyed strong word-of-mouth and a healthy opening of ₹3.35 Cr, eventually grossing over ₹65 Cr worldwide. Caught between a global juggernaut and a local favorite, Vrusshabha found itself with almost no theatrical oxygen. Vrusshabha is an ambitious reincarnation epic spanning centuries, following Mohanlal as King Vijayendra Vrusshabha in an ancient timeline where a generational curse pits him against his own son. The conflict carries over to the modern day, where he is reborn as businessman Aadi Deva Varma (reunited with his son, played by Samarjit Lankesh). Directed by Kannada filmmaker Nanda Kishore (Pogaru, Victory), this was intended to be a massive Pan-India gamble. However, the transition into fantasy heavy storytelling failed to resonate; Audience noted that the director's vision was marred by dated execution and distracting AI driven visual effects, ultimately failing to balance its mythological roots with modern-day sensibilities.

The Malayalam film industry continues its incredible streak of delivering high-quality sleeper hits that dominate both critical and commercial spheres. The latest film to join this elite list is the mystery thriller eko, directed by Dinjith Ayyathan. Made on a modest controlled budget of just ₹5 Crore, the film has completed its theatrical run as a massive profitable venture, proving once again that content driven cinema remains the ultimate superstar at the box office. eko has registered exceptional numbers across all territories. Despite a slow start with a Day 1 opening of just ₹0.80 Cr, the film witnessed a legendary sleeper hit trajectory. In the domestic market, the film garnered an impressive India Net Collection of ₹ 23.25 Cr, which translated into an India Gross of ₹ 27.4 Cr. The film's appeal was not limited to the home soil, as it performed strongly in international markets, pulling in an Overseas Collection of ₹18.10 Crore. This brings its Worldwide Total to a staggering ₹ 45.5 Cr. With these figures, the film has earned a Super Hit verdict, yielding a return on investment (ROI) of nearly 900% against its production cost. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The success of eko is largely attributed to its unique thematic depth. It serves as the third and final installment of writer cinematographer Bahul Ramesh's acclaimed Animal Trilogy, following the footsteps of Kishkindha Kaandam and Kerala Crime Files. Produced by MRK Jhayaram under the Aaradyaa Studios banner, the film features a powerhouse ensemble including Sandeep Pradeep, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Biana Momin. By focusing on a mysterious canine breed and a tense, atmospheric narrative set in the misty hills of Kaattukunnu, the film managed to sustain long-term footfalls through strong word of mouth. As the film concludes its triumphant theatrical journey, it is now set to reach a global audience. The official digital partner, Netflix, has announced that eko will begin streaming on December 31, 2025. To cater to its growing pan-India popularity following the box office buzz, the film will be available in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. Megastar Mammootty has once again proven why he is the master of the box office. After a year of experimental gambles that didn't quite hit the mark, his latest release, Kalamkaaval, has turned into a massive commercial success, breathing new life into the 2025 Malayalam box office. According to the latest trade estimates, Kalamkaaval has officially breached the ₹80 Crore mark worldwide, a feat that seemed challenging for the actor earlier this year. The film's performance in the overseas market, particularly the Gulf region, has been extraordinary. India Net Collection: ₹35.75 Cr India Gross Collection: ₹42.15 Cr Overseas Collection: ₹38.25 Cr Worldwide Total: ₹80.40 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Before Kalamkaaval, Mammootty took significant creative risks with two highly anticipated projects that unfortunately struggled to find an audience at the box office: Bazooka: The high-budget, stylish action thriller was expected to be a game-changer but faced a tepid response due to its complex narrative, failing to cross the ₹20 Cr mark domestically. Dominic and the Ladies Purse: Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, this quirky investigation thriller was praised for its style but remained a niche offering, underperforming significantly in both single screens and B-centers. Kalamkaaval marks Mammootty's triumphant return to a more rooted and intense avatar .The film's commercial success is largely driven by its strong emotional core, which has resonated deeply with family audiences, ensuring a massive turnout at the domestic box office. Furthermore, the film has displayed extraordinary overseas strength, with an international haul of ₹38.25 Cr—one of the highest for a Mammootty starrer in recent years—nearly matching its total Indian gross. Bolstered by exceptionally positive word of mouth since its opening day, the project has maintained a steady grip over the box office, showing remarkable sustainability throughout the weekdays and solidifying its status as a certified Super Hit. Although Kalamkaaval has achieved a stellar worldwide gross of ₹80.4 Cr, the road to the elite ₹100 Crore Club now presents a steep challenge. Its steady momentum faces a significant hurdle this Thursday with the high-voltage arrival of the Pan-India spectacle, Vrusshabha. As this epic is set to seize the lion's share of premium screens across Kerala and the overseas belt, the resulting screen crunch makes bridging the remaining ₹19.6 Cr gap a difficult task. With the festive focus shifting toward the new Christmas release, reaching the century-mark milestone has become a highly demanding prospect for the Megastar starrer

Released on December 5, 2025, amidst huge expectations, the Jithin K. Jose directorial has not only lived up to the hype but exceeded it. Normally, big stars do not take risks by breaking commercial boundaries, but Mammootty, at 74 years of age, has shattered those norms by playing a villain—a psycho serial killer—and the audience has accepted it completely. The film opened with a massive ₹15.6 Cr, marking the second-biggest opening for Mammootty and the eighth all-time biggest for Mollywood. With Day 2 collections remaining on par with Day 1, the film has smashed past the ₹60 Crore mark globally in just 7 days. The film has registered a gross collection of approximately ₹26 Crore in Kerala alone during its first week. What's even more impressive is the theatre hold—entering its second week, the film has retained over 300+ screens across Kerala, a feat credited to the aggressive distribution by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Kalamkaval is a bona fide Super Hit. The latest tracked numbers reveal a massive surge in Overseas markets, which have surprisingly outperformed the domestic gross, contributing significantly to the film's massive total. Domestically, the thriller has secured a strong foothold with an India Net collection of ₹26.25 Cr, pushing the India Gross to ₹28.6 Cr. However, the real game-changer has been the international circuit; the film has raked in a staggering ₹29.9 Cr from overseas, propelling the Worldwide Gross to an impressive ₹58.5 Cr in just one week. The litmus test for any blockbuster is the Monday test and the Day 7 hold. Kalamkaval passed both with flying colors. On its 7th day (Thursday), the film showed no signs of slowing down, registering an early estimate of ₹2.0 Crore. With no major competition arriving this weekend, the film is expected to have a free run at the ticket windows. The screen count of 300+ in the second week ensures that the film is on track to enter the coveted ₹100 Crore Club soon.

The Malayalam film industry is truly in its best phase, churning out blockbusters that appeal to a global audience. The latest addition to this list is the crime-thriller Kalamkaval. Released amidst high expectations due to its intriguing trailer, the movie has capitalized on excellent word-of-mouth reviews to post a staggering total in its first weekend and has begun the weekdays on a promising note. After a massive weekend, all eyes were on how the film would perform on its first working day. According to Early Estimates, Kalamkaval has passed the crucial Monday test with flying colors. The film reportedly collected Rs 2.90 Crore on Day 4 (1st Monday). This indicates a solid hold, suggesting that the audience interest remains intact even after the weekend euphoria. With this addition, the film is steadily inching towards the Rs 20 Crore net mark domestically in record time. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The movie officially registered a Worldwide Collection of Rs 44 Crore in just its opening weekend. This is a massive feat, especially for a film that relies heavily on its screenplay and performances rather than just mass masala elements. The film has trended exceptionally well over Saturday and Sunday, proving that the audience is loving the content. In a rare and surprising trend, Kalamkaval has performed significantly better in international markets than within India, highlighting the massive demand for quality Malayalam content in the Gulf and European regions. While the film secured a respectable India Gross of Rs 19.4 Crore (with a Net collection of Rs 16.5 Crore), it raked in a colossal Rs 24.6 Crore from international territories. This disparity indicates that the diaspora audience has embraced the thriller wholeheartedly, contributing more than 50% to its total revenue—a phenomenon seldom seen in Indian cinema. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Directed by Jithin K. Jose, Kalamkaval is an intense crime thriller produced by Mammootty Kampany. The movie stars the powerhouse performer Mammootty in the lead role, supported by Vinayakan and others. The plot revolves around a gripping investigation that unravels dark secrets, with critics praising Mammootty's intense portrayal and the film's atmospheric storytelling. With a worldwide gross of over Rs 44 Crore and a stable Monday of Rs 2.90 Crore, Kalamkaval is racing towards the Rs 50 Crore club at lightning speed. If the current trend continues, it is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest hits of the year for the Malayalam industry.

According to live data, the film collected a powerful ₹4.75 crore in India net collections on its first day, Friday, December 5. This strong opening firmly places Kalamkaval at the top of Mammootty's 2025 releases, comfortably surpassing his other films from this year. Kalamkaval: ₹4.75 Cr (India Net) Bazooka:₹3.70 Cr (Day 1 Gross) Dominic and the Ladies Purse: ₹2.05 Cr (Day 1 India Gross) This strong opening is fueled by a powerhouse combination of talent. The film marks the first collaboration between megastar Mammootty and director Jithin K. Jose, who is already a name synonymous with success in the crime genre. Jithin K. Jose previously helmed the blockbuster Kurup, which starred Mammootty's son, Dulquer Salmaan. Kurup was a massive critical and commercial success, earning a Superhit verdict with a worldwide collection of ₹78 crore. The director's proven ability to craft a gripping crime narrative has created immense anticipation for Kalamkaval, and this opening number proves that the audience's expectations have been met. The film's appeal is further boosted by a strong and talented supporting cast. Joining Mammootty on screen are acclaimed actors Vinayakan, Rajisha Vijayan, and Malavika Menon in pivotal roles, adding significant depth to the crime drama. With a star of Mammootty's stature, a director with a blockbuster crime drama under his belt, and a story that has clearly intrigued the audience, Kalamkaval has all the markings of a winner. The solid Day 1 collection provides a fantastic foundation, and with positive word-of-mouth, the film is expected to soar even higher through the weekend.

Bridging the gap between regional industries, the makers of the Marathi blockbuster Dashavatar have officially announced the film's release in Malayalam. The film, which has already garnered significant praise in its original language, is slated to hit theaters across Kerala on December 12, 2025. According to the official announcement, this release marks a significant milestone in Indian cinema history. The film has been dubbed, marketed, and presented in Malayalam by MaxMarketing. This creates a new precedent, as it is billed as the first time a Marathi film has been aggressively marketed and distributed in the Malayalam market with such a focused strategy. Following the encouraging response to the Malayalam teaser and songs, the full theatrical trailer has now been unveiled to the Kerala audience. Helmed by director Subodh Khanolkar, Dashavatar is produced under the banners of Ocean Film Company and Ocean Art House. The film is headlined by the legendary Dilip Prabhavalkar, a veteran figure in Indian cinema celebrated for his versatility in iconic movies like Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The release is being steered by industry heavyweights including Umesh Kumar Bansal, Bavesh Janavlekar, Girish Johar, and Varun Gupta. With the promotional campaign kicking into high gear, all eyes are on December 12 to see how the Kerala audience welcomes this historic cross-cultural cinematic venture.
