Kochi, June 6 - The theater owners in Kerala have decided to take a strong stand against the Mollywood filmmaker for opting for early OTT release of their movies. It has been seen with most of the Malayalam movies that despite the very good run in theaters, producers have opted for early release on digital platforms. ## The latest in the list is the all-time blockbuster "2018" which was released in theaters on May 5 and will be streaming SonyLiv from June 7, less than five weeks after the theatrical release. This has left the theater owners disappointed as this film has been running with packed houses across Kerala state. ## Now, according to the latest development, the theater owners have called for a strike on June 7 and 8 as a protest against early digital releases. This means theaters won't be functioning across the state for the next 2 days. Kochi, May 22 - The 7-years of long-standing record of Mohanlal-fronted "Pulimurugan" finally bites the dust as the latest Mollywood sensation 2018 has become the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam movie at the worldwide box office. ## The all-time blockbuster movie has grossed approx. 137.50 crores in just 17 days, and beats "Pulimurugan's" 137.35 crores (according to Friday Matinee) to become the highest-grossing film in the history of Malayalam cinema. ## The movie, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, has grossed around 65.30 crores in Kerala, and in the next couple of days, it will become the 3rd biggest grosser in the state. Kochi, May 20 - The all-time blockbuster Malayalam movie continues to amaze the audiences and is having a super solid trend at the box office.## While the movie is performing exceptionally well at the box office, the overseas collections are rather stunning. Internationally, "2018" has grossed 56.60 crores in 15 days, which is an all-time record for a Malayalam movie. ## Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, "2018" has crossed the lifetime overseas collection of Mohanlal's "Lucifer" which grossed approx. 50 crores in 2019, to become the highest-grossing Malayalam movie. Mohanlal's "Lucifer", which was the last film to achieve this milestone, took 12 days for the same. The first Malayalam movie to gross 100 crores worldwide was also a Mohanlal-starrer, titled "Pulimurugan" (2016). ## The domestic collection of "2018" is approx 51.20 crores while the overseas collection is around 49 crores.
