Kochi, March 28 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller L2: Empuraan has shattered records to score the biggest opening ever for a Malayalam movie by a margin of more than three times. The previous biggest opener was Mohanlal's Marakkar with 20 crore gross worldwide. ## Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan received mixed reviews, but despite that, it was in its full glory on the opening day. In India, the film grossed around 24.50 crores, including around 14 crores gross in the home state, Kerala. It has beaten Thalapathy Vijay's Leo (12+ crore gross) to score the biggest opening day in the state. ## While the domestic opening was gigantic, L2 also stunned the trade by grossing a mammoth $5 million (43+ crores gross), which is the biggest Malayalam opening and bigger than any Bollywood film at the overseas box office. Kochi, July 14 - One of the highest-grossing Malayalam movies of all-time, Aadujeevitham - The Goat Life starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, has finally locked the streaming day after more than 100 days of its theatrical release on March 28. ## Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Blessy, Aadujeevitham will make its streaming debut on Netflix on July 19, in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil languages, after 113 days of the theatrical run. ## Aadujeevitham was originally supposed to lock a deal with Disney+Hotstar which has been a frequent collaborator for Malayalam movies, but the deal didn't materialize due to some reasons before Netflix grabbed the streaming rights for all versions.## Earlier, the survival thriller ended its box office run as the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time at the worldwide box office with approximately 157.50+ crores gross which includes 98 crores gross in India and 59.50 crores overseas collection. ## The movie is an adaptation of the 2008 best-selling Malayalam novel Aadujeevitham by Benyamin, which is based on the real-life story of Najeeb, a Malayali immigrant labourer, one among thousands of Indians who were forced into slavery in Saudi Arabia as goatherds on secluded farms in the deserts by the native Arabs.## Stay tuned...

Kochi, May 25 - The Malayalam film industry is reaching new heights in 2024 and for the very first time in its history, Malayalam movies have topped 1000 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office in a single year. ## The total worldwide collection of 2024 Malayalam movies is approximately 1030 crores gross, including 660 crores gross in India and 370 crores overseas, as of May 24. Domestically, Mollywood has contributed approximately 20% of the total collection this year, behind Hindi (40%) and Telugu (23%). ## The real-life inspired survival thriller Manjummel Boys has been the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 with a worldwide collection of 241 crores, including 167.50 crores gross in India and 73.50 crores overseas. It is also the highest-grossing Mollywood title of all time. ## Among the other major contributors, Prithviraj Sukumaran's Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life and Fahadh Faasil-fronted Aavesham at the second and third position with 157.50 crores gross and 153.50 crores gross worldwide, respectively.
