Kantara Becomes Non-KGF Kannada Industry Hit
Bengaluru, October 16 - After becoming a rare 100 crore grosser at the worldwide box office, the latest Kannada sensation Kantara is now behind only Yash-fronted KGF film franchise to emerge as the Non-KGF Kannada industry hit.

The Rishab Shetty-starrer has scored approx. 115 crores so far in 16 days, making it the third highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time, after "KGF: Chapter 2", and "KGF: Chapter 1". The adventure action thriller film has overtaken Rakshit Shetty's "777 Charlie" (approx. 103 crores) to become a new non-KGF industry hit.

Interestingly, four out of the top 5 highest-grossing Kannada films of all time have released in 2022 as only KGF-1 was released in 2018. Kichcha Sudeepa's "Vikrant Rona" is the fifth biggest movie in the list with approx. 100 crores worldwide.

Hombale Films has been churning out some critically acclaimed films that are equally successful at the box office. In a proud moment for the studio, the top three biggest Kannada movies belong to Hombale, headed by Vijay Kirgandur, and this is just the beginning (will bring a report on Hombale's potential blockbuster movies from its announced line-up).

"Kantara", which is written and directed by Rishab Shetty himself, has an outside chance to beat "KGF: Chapter 1" which grossed approx. 238 crores in its lifetime run. However, the movie will need to show a similar trend for the next couple of weeks and will also need to see through Diwali releases, especially for non-Kannada languages.

Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 has lived up to the expectations to score 100+ crores opening week in the dubbed Hindi version. The film's Hindi version has scored a good first-week collection of 107 crore net, making it the fifth biggest first-week grosser of 2025 in Hindi. The achievement is even more impressive considering it's a dubbed Kannada release competing with some of Bollywood's biggest franchises and star-studded blockbusters. Vicky Kaushal's mega blockbuster Chhaava is the biggest opening week grosser of 2025 in Hindi, with dominating numbers of 219 crore, setting a new benchmark for Hindi films this year. It's followed by Yash Raj Films' unexpected blockbuster Saiyaara, starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, with 173 crores, while Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's War 2 is third in the list with 150 crores first week.
