Pulwama, September 18 - Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated multipurpose cinema halls in the South Kashmir districts of Shopian and Pulwama, on Sunday and has assured that every district of Jammu and Kashmir will get cinema halls soon.



The official handle of The Office of Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir made the announcement on Twitter. The tweet read, "A historic day for J&K UT! Inaugurated Multipurpose Cinema Halls at Pulwama and Shopian. It offers facilities ranging from movie screening, infotainment and skilling of youth".



On the first day, films like "RRR" and "Bhaag Mikha Bhaag" were shown to the audiences. "We will build such multipurpose cinema halls in every district of Jammu and Kashmir soon. Today, I dedicate such cinema halls to the youth of Pulwama and Shopian", Sinha said and added, "This is an initiative taken by the Mission Youth under (secretary) Shahid Iqbal Choudhary".



Kashmir's first INOX multiplex in Srinagar's Somwar area having three movie theatres with a total capacity of 520 persons will also be open to the public from next week, according to Mint.



Up until the late 1980s, the Valley was home to almost a dozen independent movie theatres, but they were forced to close their doors after receiving threats from two militant outfits. Although authorities tried reopening several of the theatres in the late 1990s, militants foiled those efforts by attacking the Regal Cinema in Lal Chowk with a devastating grenade in September 1999.

Srinagar, September 21 - For the first time in nearly 30 years, the movie-going experience returns to Kashmir as multiple theaters have been inaugurated by Lt governor Manoj Sinha. The government of India is adamant to open theaters in every district of J&K as a part of the socio-economic revolution in the valley.## While inaugurating the 520-seater multiplex theatre in Srinagar, Sinha said land has been identified for developing a film city in the Union Territory (UT). It is Kashmir's first INOX multiplex with a total capacity of 520 persons.## Congratulating the people, Vijay Dhar, owner of the multiplex and INOX Group on the occasion, the Lt Governor said that a major socio-economic revolution is sweeping through J&K in the last 3 years and it is a reflection of a new dawn of hope, dreams, confidence, and aspirations of people, he added.## A couple of days ago, Sinha inaugurated multipurpose cinema halls in the South Kashmir districts of Shopian and Pulwama. Films like "RRR" and "Bhaag Mikha Bhaag" were shown to the people, including students of their respective districts. It was their first-time movie-watching experience in theaters and the joy of it was clearly visible on their faces. ## The Lt Governor observed that the opening of multipurpose cinema halls in Shopian, Pulwama, and the first-ever multiplex cinema hall in Srinagar marks the revival of cinema culture in the Kashmir Valley after three decades.## "Culture is a way of life and cinema being the powerful medium of sharing thoughts and ideas reflects societal values and change. Cinema brings people together. Apart from entertainment, it gives hopes, dreams, and inspiration to youth to pursue their dreams till they realize it", he said.## "Young generations have a strong urge to see a better society, to learn about other cultures, to become part of an interdependent world. And, it is the responsibility of the administration to provide them opportunities and support. The new cinema halls and ongoing film shootings will renew the beautiful bond between Jammu Kashmir and the Indian film industry.## "New film policy has been rolled out with special provisions and incentives for encouraging local youth to take up the film as a career. The government has set up a single-window clearance mechanism; prepared equipment, location, and talent directories, besides offering a host of incentives for filmmakers coming to the UT.## The policy will facilitate overall growth of the film industry in the region, setting up of J&K Film Development Council, a website for talent pool and shooting destinations; development of shooting locales, infrastructure for film screening, the revival of closed cinema halls, upgrade of cinema halls, setting up of multiplexes and cinema halls, destination marketing, J&K film festival, and restoration and preservation of J&K films.## "The new policy also aims at maximizing the potential of promising local talent and creating livelihood opportunities. The policy has been drafted after consultation with experts and in-depth study of similar policies of other states/UTs. Suggestions of renowned personalities of the film industry have also been incorporated", the L-G added. ## Sinha said to assist in film shooting, they have manpower of more than 1,500 trained artists which will also provide an opportunity to the local talent. In the Pulwama of Jammu and Kashmir, there is a large terrorist attack on the convoy of CRPF in Goripura area of Avantipura. In the attack, more than 40 soldiers of the CRPF have been martyred. The terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed took responsibility for the attack and described it as suicide.## It is being told that this is the second biggest terrorist attack after the Uri attack in September 2016 in which around 18 CRPF soldiers were martyred.
