Neena Gupta, Kapil Dev make surprise appearances in '83'

Mumbai, Dec 24 (IANS) Actress Neena Gupta essays the part of Kapil Dev's mother Rajkumari Lal Nikhanj in '83'. Ironically, the father of her daughter, Sir Viv Richards, was Kapil's bete noir at the 1983 World Cup.





The film has another surprise in it: Kapil Dev makes a cameo appearance as a member of the audience who picks up the ball after a cracker of a shot by Ranveer Singh, who plays the cricket legend in the film. The character played by Kapil exclaims: "Good shot, Kapil!"





The Indian cricket team, spearheaded by Kapil Dev, squared off against the mighty West Indies in the 1983 World Cup finals. Neena Gupta dated Sir Viv, the West Indies batting legend, who was a member of the 1983 Carribean squad led by Sir Clive Lloyd, which was then considered invincible, having won the first two World Cups.





In the finals, Sir Viv scored 33 runs from 28 balls with a strike rate of 117.85 before he was caught dramatically by Kapil on a Madan Lal delivery. Earlier, when India was playing, he proved expensive with the ball -- conceding eight runs in the one and only over he bowled.





Neena Gupta and Sir Viv started dating in the late 1980s and their daughter, Masaba Gupta, is one of India's leading couturiers and also an actor who made her debut with the Netflix original, 'Masaba Masaba'.





Neena completed her part of shooting for the film back in December 2019.

Mumbai, August 29 - Director Anurag Basu's Metro... In Dino had a decent outing at the box office, amid the low buzz and anticipation. Released in July first week, the big ensemble urban romantic drama has wrapped up its theatrical journey and moved to digital after 8 weeks of theatrical run. Featuring a star-studded cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sensharma, Anupam Kher, and Neena Gupta, Metro In Dino was reportedly made on a budget of around 50 crores, and grossed approximately 70 crores worldwide, including around 64 crores in India. After completing its box office journey, the spiritual sequel to Basu's acclaimed 2007 anthology film Life in a... Metro has started streaming on Netflix on August 29. As per unofficial reports, the film was sold to Netflix for 40 crores, as a result of the box office outcome. Mumbai, July 2 - Renowned filmmaker Anurag Basu's anthology film "Metro... In Dino" release date has been postponed and it will now be released on 29 March 2024, on the occasion of Good Friday. ## The film, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sensharma, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh, was earlier supposed to come out in December but has now been pushed to next year. ## "Get ready to be swept away by the heartwarming stories of modern-day couples brought to life by a talented ensemble cast.
