Chhaava Chhaava is an epic historical action film based on the life of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, who is played by Vicky Kaushal. It is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. The film focuses on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's conflict with Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (Akshaye Khanna), his bravery, and his sacrifice for the Maratha Empire. It depicts his leadership in defending against Mughal advances, his political strategies, and the challenges he faced, including internal conspiracies. It starts with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's death, and shows the rise of his son, who launches an attack on Burhanpur, a key Mughal province, showcasing his strength and defiance. The movie delves into Sambhaji's character, showcasing his bravery, political acumen, and his relationships, particularly with his wife, Maharani Yasubai, played by Rashmika Mandanna. Indian Box Office Hit Record 13,000 Crore Plus In 2025; Dhurandhar Led The Charge

Mumbai, January 16 - The Indian box office hit a new peak with record-breaking business of 13,350 crores from over 1500 movies in 2025, as per Sacnilk's estimated data. This was also the first time that domestic grosses crossed 13K crore, beating the previous record of 11,500 crores in 2023, a year which saw the comeback of superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Bollywood led the charge once again with nearly 5600 crores gross collection, which is around 40% of the total domestic box office collection. The Hindi cinema has recovered from the Covid dent; however, the low to mid-range films are still struggling to find an audience, even though some of the films in this category exceeded expectations. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Jio Studios and B62 Studios' Dhurandhar was the biggest domestic grosser with over 975 crores gross, followed by Kantara Chapter 1 and Chhaava. The spy action thriller also became the biggest Hindi grosser of all-time, beating Pushpa 2, which grossed around 965 crores. The four South Indian industries captured the 47% of the market share, with Malayalam cinema recording its biggest year and showing the most significant growth of its history. It was a forgettable year for Punjabi and Bengali cinema, while the Gujarati industry hit a new milestone with 250 crores, thanks to the all-time blockbuster movie, Laalo, which became the first film from the language to hit 100 crores gross. Among all the films released in 2025, three films managed to cross 500 crores gross, while 37 titles topped 100 crores gross at the Indian box office. However, despite the record-breaking year, some of the high-profile releases disappointed, which indicates the audience is no longer interested in star-driven and forced franchise releases. Dhurandhar vs Chhaava: First Week Worldwide Box Office Comparison of Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal-starrers

Mumbai, December 12 - Bollywood star Ranveer Singh's spy action thriller Dhurandhar has had a dream debut at the box office as the film concluded its first week with excellent collections. The film delivered a record opening for a Ranveer Singh-starrer and put the actor in the elite list of actors with mammoth first-week collection. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhuradhar's first week collection is almost identical to Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava, which was released in February this year. Despite being different in genres, both films stormed the box office, despite some of the so-called critics lashing out at them for their premises. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) India Box Office: Chhaava Holds the Upper Hand At the domestic box office, the historical action drama Chhaava had a stronger first-week gross with 262.50 crore, surpassing Dhurandhar's 248 crore in its debut week. Released much earlier in the year, Chhaava displayed exceptional reach across India, especially in Maharashtra and mass belts, where its historical drama theme resonated deeply with audiences. It sold approximately 1 crore tickets in the first week, which is the highest of the year. Chhaava's emotional storytelling and strong cultural connect helped it achieve a powerful opening stretch. Dhurandhar, meanwhile, delivered an explosive December start, performing exceptionally well in North India and urban centres. Its high-octane spy-action backdrop, sleek visuals, and powerful performances pulled in strong footfalls across multiplex chains, generating approximately 90 lakh footfalls. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Worldwide Box Office: Dhurandhar Leads Globally While Chhaava dominated the domestic market, Dhurandhar emerged stronger on the worldwide stage with superb overseas performance. With around 320 crore worldwide gross, Dhurandhar edges past Chhaava's 307.50 crore first-week number. Its action-heavy narrative and huge scale helped it secure superior traction in markets such as North America, the UK, and Australia. Chhaava and Dhurandhar may not have competed directly at the box office, but their first-week numbers place them among the most successful Indian releases of 2025. While Chhaava ruled the domestic market, Dhurandhar took a commanding lead overseas, making both films major box office success stories in their own right. Top 10 Biggest Indian Grossers of 2025 At The Overseas Box Office

Mumbai, December 14 - The Indian films have had a decent year at the overseas box office, which showcased a striking mix of regional powerhouses and pan-Indian titles. From Tamil and Malayalam films punching above their weight to big-budget Hindi entertainers finding audiences abroad, the list below reflects not just star power but a widening global appetite for Indian cinema in multiple languages. Ranveer Singh-fronted Dhurandhar has made its way to the top of the list, after the unexpected super blockbuster run at the overseas box office. It has dethroned superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie, which looked like it would top the list before the arrival of Dhurandhar. The top 10 as a whole have pulled in approximately 1250 crore overseas. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A few trends stand out. South Indian films, particularly Tamil and Malayalam, continued to dominate the upper ranks, showing the sustained international reach of regional content, even though the Bollywood films dominated the overall chart with 5 titles. Big franchise and action titles such as L2: Empuraan and Kantara Chapter 1 also performed superbly, proving that sequels and spectacle remain reliable overseas earners. Meanwhile, comedies and mass entertainers like Housefull 5 and Good Bad Ugly indicate that the diaspora and local markets still make space for lighter, crowd-pleasing fare. Language diversity is another takeaway: the top ten biggest Indian overseas grossers include Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada releases, demonstrating that language is less of a barrier overseas when a film has strong word-of-mouth, star appeal, or franchise recognition, even though some of the films in the list underperformed to their reputation.
