Box Office: Doctor Strange 2 Becomes Biggest Grosser of 2022 Worldwide

Mumbai, May 23 - Marvel Studios has once again claimed the top position at the box office as "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" has become the highest-grossing movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office. ## The superhero movie, directed by Sam Raimi, has crossed the $800 million global mark, which includes $342.1 million from domestic (North America) and $461.1 million from the international box office, for a total $803.2 million through 3rd weekend. The numbers become even more strong knowing the fact that the movie hasn't been released in China and Russia, two of the biggest movie markets. ## Among 28 Marvel Cinematic Universe films (and excluding China and Russia), "Doctor Strange 2" lands at No. 11 so far on a global basis. It is currently the only film of 2022 to top $800 million, and the second-highest-grossing Hollywood title during the covid-19 pandemic, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home" ($1.89 billion). Warner Bros' "The Batman" is the second-biggest movie of 2022 worldwide with $768 million. ## Among the top international markets, Korea remains the top contributor with $45.9M, followed by the UK ($43.8M), Mexico ($35.7M), Brazil ($29.2M), and Australia ($23M). Mumbai, May 13 - Marvel is the biggest non-domestic movie brand in India and it has been proved once again with the studios' latest superhero flick, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness". ## Directed by the maverick Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has crossed the prestigious 100 crores net mark at the Indian box office and becomes the second non-domestic film in 5 months to reach the figure. Earlier, Marvel/Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" did it with ease and went on to score over 260 crores gross. ## The sequel to 2016's movie has broken into the 100 crores net club in the first week itself with Rs. 104 crores for all languages. Mumbai, May 5 - Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was one of the first films to bring the Indian box office on its strong feet with big box office numbers in December last year. And now, another Marvel movie with Disney, "Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness" is ready to roar in India. ## Directed by Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has been one of the most-awaited non-Indian movies and the advance booking for the same was opened nearly a month before its release on May 6 in multiple languages. As expected, the superhero movie is getting a phenomenal response in the advance sales as it has already reached 28 crores gross. ## The original English version of the movie is leading the advance sales with approx. 19.70 crores gross, including all formats, followed by the Hindi version with approx. 7 crores gross. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, the highly-awaited superhero movie will debut in theaters on May 6, 2022, in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. ## On Monday (Feb. 14), Marvel released the full trailer of the sequel of the 2016's film. It is the second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that explores the multiverse concept, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home". "Doctor Strange 2", however, takes deep into the concept where things become messier than "No Way Home". ## In the latest trailer, one can see that Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme is under attack from all sides after he opened that gate of the multiverse in "No Way Home", which goes wrong as several monstrous beings invade the MCU. To deal with that he seeks the help of Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Oleson, however, it is not as easy as it looks. ## Meanwhile, "Doctor Strange 2" is rumored to have many cameos including Captain Marvel. In one of the clips of the trailer, it looks like Captain Marvel is fighting Scarlet Witch. Among the other possible cameos, previously Fox-owned characters like X-Men may debut in MCU with the Multiverse of Madness. The rumors have also stated that Tom Cruise plays a cameo as Iron Man in this blockbuster sequel. ## The movie is being directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, among many other Marvel characters. ## ## Stay tuned...
