The Conjuring: Last Rites Storms The Indian Box Office With Record Pre-Sales: The Horror Thriller Eyes Record Opening
Mumbai, September 4 - The Indian box office is ready to throw another major surprise as the latest instalment - The Conjuring: Last Rites - in the long-running The Conjuring Universe is looking at the record opening for a horror film in the country. Directed by Michael Chaves, who previously directed three films in the franchise, The Conjuring: Last Rites is creating havoc in the opening day advance booking. With the first show yet to start, the movie has already sold over 300K tickets, including nearly 200K in the national chains (PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis) for the opening day. The pre-sales of The Last Rites are by far the best ever for a horror film in India, even much better than Indian titles. Among recent Hollywood titles, the latest Conjuring film is having the best pre-sales in India, which has not only stunned the trade but also shows the growing interest among the Indian audience for horror titles. According to the reports, Warner Bros. Pictures has secured a wide release for the film in India with over 2200 screens, and considering the pre-sales trend, it is heading to open, at least 15+ crores gross, with a high possibility of touching 20 crores gross in all versions. There will be a competition for the movie in almost every major part of the country, but despite that, The Last Rites is expected to dominate this weekend in India, beating the domestic titles. This is another high for horror films in the country, where the genre has seen a steady rise over the last few years. Based on the true-life investigations of the Smurl haunting, the film stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who reprise their roles as paranormal investigators. It is the sequel to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), the ninth and final instalment of The Conjuring Universe. Stay tuned...
