Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files First Reviews Out: Call The Film An Eye Opener

Mumbai, September 4 - National award-winning filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's reality-based political thriller The Bengal Files is gaining much-needed traction as the release is around the corner. Based on the events surrounding Direct Action Day on 16 August 1946, the movie is scheduled for a September 5 release. The film has had its premiere in multiple cities in India and North America, and early audience reaction praises it for its gut-wrenching story. The initial response is both intense and emotionally charged as people who have already watched can't stop raving about it. Multiplex Chains Refuse To Screen Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files In Bengal Under Political Pressure, Makers Allege

Mumbai, September 4 - Director Vivek Agnihotri's much-awaited reality-based political thriller The Bengal Files is facing trouble in getting released in West Bengal amid pressure from the ruling state party, alleges the national award-winning filmmaker. Scheduled to release on September 5, the film presents a storyline focused on the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings and the Noakhali riots, depicting the violence and its aftermath as a genocide, and claiming that these chapters of history were deliberately suppressed or ignored. Ever since the movie was announced, it has been under constant scrutiny for showing the dark truth of Indian history. Now, this scrutiny is leading to the unofficial ban on the film in Bengal, which forced the makers to write an open letter to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, for urgent intervention. Producer of #TheBengalFiles, Pallavi Joshi, writes an open letter to the President of India:URGENT APPEAL:Your Excellency, @rashtrapatibhvn,"As Producer of #TheBengalFiles, I am pained that multiplex chains in Bengal have refused the film"™s release under political pressure"¦ pic.twitter.com/ERTLvqxp3y— Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri (@vivekagnihotri) September 4, 2025 In the letter, producer Pallavi Joshi has alleged that theatre chains in West Bengal are refusing to screen the movie under political pressure. Joshi also alleged that she, along with her family, is threatened every day by the workers of the ruling party under Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee. It is worth noting that similar hurdles were also faced by Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files, which some of the states refused to release, but the film went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of 2022. It needs to be seen how things unfold for The Bengal Files, which carries similarities with TKF. Produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and I Am Buddha Productions, the film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, Anupam Kher, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, and Mohan Kapur in key roles. Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files Censor Certificate and Record Runtime Revealed

Mumbai, August 27 - National Award-winning filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is all set to release the third instalment and possibly the final film in his acclaimed Files trilogy with The Bengal Files, which releases on September 5. The movie has been making headlines in the media just like the previous films for its political commentary, which has been the hallmark of the franchise. This upcoming film portrays the tragic events surrounding Direct Action Day, also known as the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings on 16 August 1946. Ahead of the film's release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the movie, and like The Kashmir Files, it has also got an A certificate. What makes the update even more significant is the film's approved runtime, which is 3 hours and 24 minutes (204 minutes). This not only makes The Bengal Files the longest film in Agnihotri's trilogy, surpassing The Kashmir Files (2 hours 50 minutes) and The Tashkent Files (2 hours 24 minutes), but also positions it among the longest mainstream Hindi films ever released. In recent times, it is easily the longest Bollywood film, beating Ranbir Kapoor's Animal (201 minutes). Given its certification and extended runtime of The Bengal Files, trade experts believe the film is being positioned as an epic-scale socio-political drama meant to leave a lasting impact. Agnihotri, known for his politically charged storytelling, has previously sparked nationwide discussions with his hard-hitting narratives. With The Bengal Files, the director is expected to dive into yet another controversial and emotionally intense chapter of Indian history. Produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and I Am Buddha Productions, the movie stars Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, and Mohan Kapur in key roles. The Bengal Files Director Vivek Agnihotri Responds Strongly to John Abraham's Criticism of The Kashmir Files

Mumbai, August 22 - National award-winning director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is gearing up for the release of political drama The Bengal Files, which is the third piece in Agnihotri's Files trilogy after National Award-winning movies The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022). The upcoming movie revolves around the Calcutta riots of August 16, 1946, which were triggered after the All-India Muslim League called for Direct Action Day to demand a separate homeland. The movie has been in the media headlines for various reasons, which was expected. Recently, Bollywood star John Abraham shared his opinion on films like The Kashmir Files and Chhaava, and labelled them as the extreme right wing's ideological films, which he said are not good for society. He expressed that he would never make films like The Kashmir Files to "sway people in a hyper-political environment". Abraham's comments left many people furious, including director Agnihotri. During an interview with Padmaja Joshi of NDTV, the filmmaker, who worked with Abraham in 2007's sports drama Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, reacted to the actor's comment about The Kashmir Files. "John is not a historian, an intellectual, a thinker, or a writer. He has been making very, very jingoistic films like Satyameva Jayate, too. He made Diplomat and all those kinds of films. He must have said that for a variety of reasons. If you had told me some great historian had said this, I would have understood it. I don't care about what he's saying. When was India's atmosphere not hyper-political? When was it that Hindu-Muslim and caste issues never existed in India?" "“ Agnihotri The filmmaker further said, "He is known for driving motorbikes and showing his body and eating protein, he should focus on those things, film-on mein naa hi ghuse toh behtar hai (better if he doesn't get into talking about films)." Produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and I Am Buddha Productions in association with Zee Studios, The Bengal Files stars Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, and Mohan Kapur. It is scheduled to release on September 5th. Stay tuned...

34 Years of Salman Khan In Bollywood - A Journey Filled With A Fair Share of Ups And Downs

Mumbai, August 26 - Superstar Salman Khan completes 34 years of working in the Indian Film industry. 34 years back, Salman debuted with Biwi Ho Toh Aisi, where he played a supporting role. Even though being the son of one of the most renowned writers of Bollywood Salim Khan, Salman didn't use his father's name to request a chance. ## The actor had his fair share of struggles to finally secure a chance to act in the film industry. Luck was on Salman's side too when he got selected to play the lead role in "Maine Pyar Kiya" a year later his debut, which made him an overnight sensation. His charming looks and innocent attitude caught the eyes of many people. Post the huge success of MPK, Salman consolidated his position with the super success of movies like Baaghi, Sanam Bewafa, and Saajan. He became the talk of the industry and one of the youth's favorites. He was even being compared to Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was the No 1 star in the industry back then. ## After the early success, Salman didn't have a smooth road in the next few years, as he gave 7 back to back flops in a row post his initial 6 successful movies. He didn't manage to select the best scripts then, as a result, some magazines even started to say his stardom has ended. But he overcame this adversity and Rose again to prominence with the super success of movies like Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! and Karan Arjun which once again reaffirmed him at the top. ## The years 1996-1999 are regarded as one of the best phases of Khan's career where 8 out of 13 movies he did were hits. Salman became the actor with the most number of hits in the 90's decade including the biggest hit of the decade Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!## Then came a new decade but this again was not so smooth for Salman. Even though he was an established star by then his personal life and back-to-back controversies during this time stopped big producers from offering him films. He was projected negatively by the media thereby giving him a bad boy image. Despite all this, the core audiences never stopped supporting him. He used to work with small producers and new directors during this period but regardless of this, his movies continued to take huge openings at the box office. Movies like Tere Naam, Salaam- E -Ishq, Garv, Lucky - No Time for Love, Wanted, and Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya are the biggest examples of this.## Salman had command over the biggest fanbase in rural circuits in India unlike any other actor used to have. Post the success of Wanted, the actor realized which type of movies the audiences want and started his dominant phase at the box office.## The Peak era of Salman khan at the box office started in 2010 with Dabangg after which all his movies in which he played the lead role did 100 cr + business at the box office. During the time gap between 2010-2019, Salman Khan delivered 9 big blockbusters out of his total 16 releases. He became the only actor after Rajesh Khanna to reach this level of Success which makes him one of the biggest stars of all time in Bollywood along with Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra, and Rajesh Khanna.## Salman Khan is the only star whose movies pull the masses irrespective of the reviews. He will next seen be in an extended cameo role in the movie Godfather alongside Chiranjeevi where he will make his Telugu debut. Apart from this, he has movies Bhaijaan and Tiger 3 too in his kitty along with No Entry 2, next Dabbang, and a possible film with Shah Rukh Khan for YRF. ## Stay tuned...

Rajesh Khanna biography author charts the superstar's rise and fadeout

Mumbai, Dec 30 (IANS) The rise of Jatin Khanna, better known as Rajesh Khanna, Bollywood's first superstar who commanded a colossal female fan following, reflected the socio-political changes simmering in India of his time, according to his biographer, Gautam Chintamani, whose book is the starting point for Nikhil Dwivedi's just-announced biopic. ## The 1962 Sino-Indian War, said the author of 'Dark Star: The Loneliness Of Being Rajesh Khanna', led to the questioning of the Nehruvian worldview and his version of socialism, and for the first time since Independence, the vote share of the Indian National Congress dipped in the third general election. The rise of the actor mirrored the growing sentiment against the status quo. ## In a conversation with IANS, Chintamani shared anecdotes from the actor's life, demystified the enigma that Rajesh Khanna was and spoke about the subsequent dethroning of the actor by Amitabh Bachchan, who continues to be very much a part of India's showbiz story. ## Explaining why he chose Rajesh Khanna as the subject of his book, Chintamani said: "If you think of filmstars or cultural icons such as Rajesh Khanna, then there are very few people whose life warrants to be told like a story. For me, he's someone who captured the zeitgeist, redefined it and left such a big impression that for generations, film actors have followed that template. That's what got me interested in Rajesh Khanna." ## Despite his success, the superstar never meddled with the scripts or the director's vision. "He never forced filmmakers to change their scripts for the purpose of accommodating his stardom," Chintamani said. "He was a very confident actor."## Talking about the skills of the superstar, Chintamani underlined two of them. One was the actor's way around with silences and the other was how he blended seamlessly with the staging, blocking and overall arrangement of a scene. ## "An actor's prowess also comes across in his silences," Chintamani said, adding: "And if you see some of the best Rajesh Khanna films, he is a part of the whole mise en scene, where he may not have dialogues at times, but his presence is so powerful that you get an idea of what a confident actor he is." ## For all his superstardom, Khanna couldn't escape a dramatic reversal of fortunes. Khanna had a falling out with the screenwriter duo Salim-Javed, who, just like Khanna, changed the rules of the game (in terms of writing) and played a huge part in the creation of Amitabh Bachchan as a subsequent superstar. ## Chintamani explained: "The writing on the wall became clear with the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan as the angry young man in 1973 and the falling out Mr Khanna had with screenwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar combined somewhere. It was very clear that Rajesh Khanna's romantic films would no longer be the mainstay of the industry. The emergence of Amitabh Bachchan, along with the popularity of Rishi Kapoor as a young hero, all happened at the same time." ## Chintama added: "Between 1973 and 1975 there were films such as 'Aap Ki Kasam' and 'Roti', which were very big hits, but post-1975, with the success of 'Deewar' and 'Sholay', the entire scenario changed." ## It is not that Rajesh Khanna did not keep in touch with the changing times. What changed was how the audience perceived him. And it coincided with the rise of a new and brighter star. Bollywood's first superstar soon found himself being sucked into a black hole. ## "He did try to shift gears and keep up with the times, but he was so good in what he did as a romantic hero or a dramatic star that it was difficult for people in the industry to imagine him doing action films. If you see the transition between 1975 and 1980, it was a very difficult phase for Rajesh Khanna," Chintamani pointed out. ## The author concluded by talking about the man behind the superstar. "He was very close to his daughters and he counted that as one of his greatest achievements," Chintamani recalled. "Although my book doesn't look at Rajesh Khanna as the family man because it doesn't focus a lot on that, he was very fond of his grandchildren and children." ##
