Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Becomes The Highest-Grossing Indian Re-Release Film

Hyderabad, November 3 - SS Rajamouli's action drama Baahubali: The Epic, the one-cut version of his epic Baahubali duology, has become the highest-grossing Indian re-release film of all time after it scored an excellent opening weekend globally.

Starring Pan India superstar Prabhas in the title role, the movie grossed approximately 40 crores in its 3-day opening weekend at the worldwide box office, including around 29 crores domestically and 11 crores overseas. This makes it the biggest re-release Indian blockbuster.

Baahubali: The Epic has beaten the lifetime re-release run of Harshvardhan Rane's Sanam Teri Kasam, which minted around 39 crores earlier this year. The entire collection of STK came from the domestic market, as it wasn't re-released internationally. Tumbbad is the third biggest grosser with around 37 crores.

The 3-hour and 45-minute-long blockbuster is heading towards becoming the first Indian re-release title to gross 50 crores. As reported earlier, Baahubali: The Epic will need to gross over 100 crores domestically to make Baahubali: The Conclusion the biggest grosser in India, a title which the movie held for nearly 8 years before Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule claimed it earlier this year.

Though the opening weekend collection of the film is excellent, it is unlikely to gross 100 crores domestically, which is a tough ask for a non-original movie. However, it needs to be seen how to fares during the weekdays as that will determine how far it can go at the box office.

Stay tuned...

Rajamouli Reveals Bali Inspiration Behind Baahubali Battle Film Roars Again At Box Office

When S.S. Rajamouli says inspiration can strike anywhere, he means it literally. In a recent X post going viral among film buffs, the master storyteller revealed that the Karna and Ghatotkacha fight sequence in Baahubali was inspired by a grand sculpture he saw in Bali. The larger-than-life depiction of the mythological clash sparked a creative spark "” one that eventually shaped one of Indian cinema"™s most iconic war moments. And now, with Baahubali: The Epic back in cinemas in its remastered, single-cut format, audiences are once again witnessing how that vision translated into cinematic history. #SSRajamouli Said I Saw - KARNA AND GHATOTKACHA FIGHT - Statue in Bali then I decided its need be in My #BaahubaliTheEpic Film. pic.twitter.com/CVdgie778A— GetsCinema (@GetsCinema) November 4, 2025 This new edition condenses the two-part saga into one sweeping narrative while upgrading visuals and sound for today"™s big-screen standards. With enhanced clarity, deeper sound design and a tighter storytelling rhythm, the film feels less like a re-release and more like a celebration of the world Rajamouli built. From Mahishmati"™s soaring architecture to the raw emotional arc of Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali, the film still carries the same thunder "” only sleeker, sharper and grander. Even as a re-release, Baahubali: The Epic has surged back into theatres with remarkable force. The film has already garnered ₹26 crore net in India in its first four days, with a global weekend haul of ₹39.75 crore, proving the franchise still commands massive pull. The re-release has drawn strong turnout across metros, fuelled by loyal fans returning for the big-screen experience, families rediscovering the epic, and a fresh wave of younger audiences seeing Baahubali in theatres for the very first time. This perfect mix of nostalgia and new curiosity has given the film an impressive second life at the box office. Whether you"™re revisiting Mahishmati or experiencing it for the first time, Baahubali: The Epic proves once again that true cinematic universes don"™t age "” they evolve. And as Rajamouli"™s Bali anecdote reminds us "” epic stories come from observing epic stories carved by cultures long before us. The only difference? He turned inspiration into a phenomenon.

Prabhas, SS Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Epic Becomes Biggest Telugu Re-Release Grosser: Scores Huge First Day Worldwide

Hyderabad, November 1 - Director SS Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Epic, a one-cut version combining his path-breaking Baahubali duology, has shattered records to become the biggest-ever Telugu re-release blockbuster. The epic action drama has enjoyed a full-fledged re-release "” not just across India but also in key international markets "” marking another milestone for the franchise. Starring Prabhas in the titular role, Baahubali: The Epic had its grand premiere on October 30, grossing approximately 5.25 crore worldwide. Notably, re-released Telugu films rarely have premiere shows, making this record-setting feat even more remarkable. What's more impressive is that the premiere earnings of the film alone surpassed the opening day collection of several major Telugu films released this year, which proves the undeniable legacy of Baahubali films. Following its historic premiere, the film recorded a massive opening day globally, with double-digit collections across India. As per early estimates, Baahubali: The Epic grossed around 12.50 crore on its opening day domestically (including 1.35 crore from premieres), while its overseas collections are around 6"“7 crore, taking its worldwide total to an extraordinary 19"“20 crore. A tale of destiny, betrayal, love, and power - once told in two grand chapters, now reborn as one monumental experience.🔥Relive the entire legend in #BaahubaliTheEpic - from Tomorrow#BaahubaliTheEpicOn31stOct pic.twitter.com/AZXFzLQxjZ— Baahubali (@BaahubaliMovie) October 30, 2025 With these figures, the film has become the highest-grossing Telugu re-release title and the second-highest-grossing South Indian re-release film of all time, behind only Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli, which grossed over 30 crores worldwide. The previous biggest Telugu re-release grosser was Mahesh Babu's Khaleja (11 crores). Let alone the re-release, the opening day collection of Baahubali: The Epic would even make the most of the original release envious. It is, however, worth noting that Telugu films normally don't have a proper re-release; instead, they are more like a celebratory re-release. But even with that, Baahubali is miles ahead of them. The 3-hour and 45-minute-long cut will most likely become the highest-grossing Indian re-release grosser by tomorrow or the next day, beating Sanam Teri Kasam, which grossed around 40 crores earlier this year. Baahubali: The Epic, however, will be eying much more as a genuine interest, for it can be seen among the audience even after 10 years. Stay tuned...

Yet, the response proves that the franchise continues to enjoy cult-level fan following across generations. Internationally, the film's bookings are record-breaking for a re-release Indian title. In North America, Baahubali: The Epic has already crossed the $200,000 mark in pre-sales "” a staggering figure that surpasses many first-time releases. The excitement in NA indicates a wave of nostalgia and admiration for Rajamouli's storytelling and Prabhas' iconic portrayal of Baahubali. Baahubali: The Epic is expected to create new records by a long margin for a re-release Indian film. Highest-Grossing (500 Crore) South Indian Films At The Worldwide Box Office: Rajinikanth's Coolie Joins Elite List at No. 11

Chennai, August 29 - Superstar Rajinikanth led his gangster action drama Coolie crawl past the 500 crores mark at the worldwide box office, making it only the 4th Tamil film ever to achieve the milestone. The movie had to battle its way to reach the coveted box office mark, despite the record start. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie joins Rajinikanth's own blockbusters - 2 Point 0 and Jailer, along with Thalapathy Vijay's Leo - to emerge as the 4th Tamil title to make its way into the 500 crores club globally. 2 Point 0 remains the biggest grosser with around 700 crores, as Coolie set to finish at 4, behind Jailer (605 crores), and Leo (606 crores). While Coolie brings in the lures for Tamil cinema, it also expands the South Indian cinema's 500 crores club grossers list to 11. This has been dominated by the Telugu film industry with 6 titles in the list, while Kannada has one in the form of Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2. SS Rajamouli's groundbreaking blockbuster, Baahubali 2 (2017), remains the biggest South Indian grosser at the worldwide box office with close to 1800 crores gross. It was also the first South Indian blockbuster to become the 1000 crores gross, while its predecessor, Baahubali - The Beginning, was the first to breach the milestone of 500 crores gross in 2015. Overall, Coolie is the 27th Indian film of all time to reach the landmark of 500 crores gross worldwide. The list is dominated by Bollywood with 16 titles, including Aamir Khan's sports drama Dangal, which is the highest-grossing Indian film ever with over 2000 crores collection. With Coolie, Director Lokesh Kanagaraj Joins the Elite 400-Crore League Alongside SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj teamed with superstar Rajinikanth for the first time for a gangster action drama film Coolie, which had a record-breaking opening weekend ever, after the record opening day, for a Tamil title. The movie entered the 400 crores club at the worldwide box office on its 5th day, and led the director to an elite club. ## With Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially entered the elite club of Indian filmmakers who have delivered three consecutive 400+ crore worldwide grossers, standing tall alongside legends like SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani. Arguably the most bankable director of Tamil cinema currently, Lokesh keeps winning at the box office. ## The filmmaker began this extraordinary streak with Vikram (2022), a Kamal Haasan starrer that revived the superstar's box office dominance and grossed over 400 crore worldwide. He followed it up with Leo (2023), featuring Thalapathy Vijay, which, despite polarised reviews, went on to collect over 600 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. Now with Coolie (2024), Lokesh has achieved the rare hat-trick, making him the only Tamil filmmaker to do so. ## This puts him in the same league as SS Rajamouli, who delivered path-breaking blockbusters like Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, and RRR, each setting new benchmarks not just in India but across the world, where his last two films went on to gross over 1000 crores worldwide. Similarly, Bollywood's titan Rajkumar Hirani struck gold with 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and Dunku, all surpassing the 400-crore milestone. ## For Lokesh, achieving the feat of delivering 3 consecutive 400 crores grossers in the relatively smaller Tamil market makes the accomplishment even more remarkable. His rise reflects the growing stature of Tamil cinema, even though it is yet to fully explore some of the key markets, including the Hindi belt. With his streak of consecutive blockbusters, he has proven that strong storytelling combined with star power and scale can deliver massive results. ## As he continues to shape the blockbuster Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), along with standalone films with some of India's biggest stars, the young filmmaker is now firmly established as one of the most powerful voices in Indian cinema today. Lokesh's next films promise bigger results with LCU's Kaithi 2, Rolex, and Vikram 2, and a standalone film with Aamir Khan in the pipeline. ## Stay tuned...
