War 2 Box Office Woes: Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's Actioner Set To Finish As The Lowest YRF Spy Universe Grosser Domestically

Mumbai, September 2 - When War (2019) exploded at the box office with nearly 475 crore worldwide, it set the bar sky-high for its sequel. Expectations grew even bigger when Yash Raj Films announced the addition of Telugu superstar Jr. NTR alongside Hrithik Roshan, making War 2 one of the most anticipated films of Spy Universe. Everything was going well as the industry was in the joyce mood three weeks before in the anticipation of the film's box office juggernaut. And then came D-Day, and despite the hype, the film gave a little shock to the trade with the lower-than-expected opening. This little shock soon turned into an utter disappointment as the film could never recover from its underwhelming opening. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film is in its third week of box office run, and it can be said that it has fallen short of expectations, and fallen short by miles, as it is now set to finish as the lowest-grossing film in the franchise at the domestic box office in its original Hindi version. War 2's Box office Struggle After the underwhelming but still respectable opening weekend of 191+ crores gross, including 153 crores in Hindi, War 2 lost momentum completely at the domestic box office as it fell like a deck of cards without putting up any fight. After 19 days, the film has grossed only 280 crores, including 212 crores (176+ crores net) in Hindi in India. Domestically, War 2 will end below the lifetime collection of Salman Khan-fronted Ek Tha Tiger, which was the first film in the YRF Spy Universe. ETT was released more than a decade ago in 2012, and despite the much lower ticket prices and no franchise advantage, the movie grossed over 263 crores (198+ crores net) domestically in Hindi. With War 2 nearing its end, it will end up as the weakest domestic performer in the Spy Universe, a sharp contrast to the roaring success of its predecessor. Even in all versions (including Telugu and Tamil), War 2 has barely managed to cross Ek Tha Tiger domestically, while at the worldwide box office, it will end up as the second lowest grosser in the Spy Universe, only ahead of ETT, which grossed 320 crores worldwide. The Bigger Picture The YRF Spy Universe has been home to some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters, from Ek Tha Tiger to Pathaan. War 2 was expected to build on that momentum, but its struggle highlights the risks of relying too heavily on franchise value and star power without equally strong storytelling. War 2 is far from the box office monster fans hoped for. As it ends up as the lowest domestic grosser in the Spy Universe, the pressure now shifts to upcoming instalments like Alpha, Pathaan 2, to restore the franchise's dominance. Stay tuned...

Baaghi Franchise A Step Away From 500 Crore Domestic Box Office Milestone: Baaghi 4 To Do The Honours?

Mumbai, September 2 - Bollywood action star Tiger Shroff's Baaghi franchise has emerged as one of the most bankable action sagas in Bollywood over the past decade. With its high-octane stunts, chartbuster music, and Shroff's ever-growing fan following, the series has maintained consistent box office success across its three instalments so far. The stage is set for the fourth instalment, which releases on September 5. Directed by A Harsha, Baaghi 4 is the darkest film in the Baaghi franchise, being the first to get an A certificate from CBFC. There is a great deal that depends on this film, which is also a make-or-break moment for Tiger, who has been going through a rough period. The success of Baaghi will not only give a big relief to Tiger, but it will take the Baaghi franchise past 500 crores gross collection at the domestic box office. Collectively, the franchise has already amassed around 428 crores in India with three films, making it one of the few Bollywood action series to maintain steady commercial momentum. With the arrival of Baaghi 4, the series now stands on the brink of entering the prestigious 500 crore club domestically. The film will need a little over 70 crores gross to take the franchise into the prestigious box office club, which looks like an easy task, given the past films of the series, but then, it will not be as easy as it looks in the current scenario. No Big Task But Need To Overcome Challanges Tiger Shroff was a real deal in the pre-COVID-19 era, where he consistently delivered box office numbers. However, things have changed since then, as his films have struggled to attract audiences to the cinema halls. For Baaghi 4 to help the franchise cross the 500 crore milestone seems like no herculean task, but it has to overcome challenges, including franchise fatigue and Tiger's poor box office form. Industry watchers believe Baaghi 4 has every chance of pushing the franchise comfortably past the landmark, provided it carries the same mix of adrenaline, emotion, and music that has been the hallmark of the franchise. If the upcoming instalment performs as expected, the Baaghi series will join the elite club of Bollywood franchises that have crossed the half-a-thousand-crore mark worldwide, strengthening Tiger Shroff's stature as one of the few stars who can drive a franchise on his shoulders. Sidharth Malhotra's Top 5 Opening Weekend Grossers: Param Sundari At No. 4 Behind Student of The Year

Mumbai, September 1 - Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra returns to the big screen with the romantic-comedy Param Sundari, which is off to a good start at the box office. The movie carried a decent buzz, which also translated into footfalls on the expected lines. Param Sundari scored the opening weekend collection of around 27 crores net, which is among the biggest of his career, but the biggest opening weekend still belongs to Brothers, which released in 2015 and also starred Akshay Kumar. The action drama opened to good numbers and collected around 52 crore in its first three days. Close behind Brothers is romantic action thriller Ek Villain (2014), which turned out to be a game-changer for Sidharth. With its strong music and gripping storyline, the film earned over 50 crores net in its opening weekend and cemented the actor's standing among the bankable young stars of that time. Sidharth's debut film, Student of the Year (2012), backed by Karan Johar, continues to hold a special place. Despite being a launchpad for three newcomers, Sidharth, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt, the film impressed at the ticket windows with a 30 crore weekend. More than a decade later, it still outshines some of his recent work, including Param Sundari, when it comes to the opening performance. Just behind Param Sundari, which is the 4th biggest opening weekend grosser of the actor, is Kapoor & Sons (2016), which managed 26 crore despite not being promoted as a mass entertainer. Another notable film is Marjaavaan (2019), which collected over 24 crore but couldn't break into the top five weekend grossers of Sidharth. With Param Sundari placing fourth in his career's biggest opening weekends, it's evident that Sidharth's strongest box office impact so far has come from action-packed or ensemble films. As he continues to explore new genres, fans and trade alike will be watching closely to see if he can surpass the benchmark set by Brothers and deliver an even bigger opening in the future. Advance Booking for Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files Begins: Will It Repeat The Kashmir Files' Historic Run?

Mumbai, August 31: Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is back with the final film in his Files trilogy, The Bengal Files, which is carrying the uncanny buzz in the trade and audiences alike. Following the historic success of The Kashmir Files (2022), which emerged as one of the biggest post-pandemic blockbusters in India, expectations are sky-high for Agnihotri's latest venture. The political reality drama is scheduled to release on September 5, and the advance ticket sales for the same have begun on August 31 in key circuits. Exhibitors believe the film could build momentum over the coming days, especially with strong word-of-mouth likely to play a pivotal role — a trend similar to what fueled The Kashmir Files into a nationwide phenomenon. The industry has largely been silent on Agnihotri's last few films, and the same is the case with The Bengal Files; even the trade, as a whole, is not throwing its hat in on what could be the outcome of this movie, which is very much similar to TKF on many levels. The Kashmir Files benefitted from raw audience emotions and word-of-mouth growth, and that might be the advantage for The Bengal Files, which is, as said, similar in genre and ignites the same emotions. The film has already generated conversations online, with discussions about its sensitive subject matter and Vivek Agnihotri's storytelling approach. Can It Match The Kashmir Files? The Kashmir Files stunned the trade by grossing over 340 crores worldwide on a modest budget, becoming one of the most profitable films in Indian cinema history. The big question is whether The Bengal Files can replicate that trajectory. Well, that is a question which will be answered once the film hits the screens. However, as said, there are similarities between the two films, including the dark history, which can be a game-changer for the film. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, August 30 – Kaleem Productions and Hombale Films' Mahavatar Narsimha continues its glorious run at the box office even after completing more than five weeks in cinemas. The film, which has been a crowd-puller since its release, showed yet another strong jump on Day 37, reaffirming its solid hold over audiences. On Day 36 (6th Friday), the film grossed around 1.15 crore in all languages. However, Day 37 (6th Saturday) witnessed a solid jump as the collections almost doubled, bringing in an estimated 2–2.25 crore gross. This upward trend highlights the film’s strong word of mouth and sustained audience interest despite multiple new releases. With this jump, Mahavatar Narsimha has now grossed approximately 287 crore in India (241 crore net). The film's worldwide gross has climbed to around 313 crore, a massive feat for an animated title. Since its release, the film has consistently surprised trade experts with its resilience at the ticket window. Mahavatar Narsimha Box Office Day 36: The Animated Blockbuster Continues Its Strong Run

Mumbai, August 30 - Kaleem Productions and Hombale Films' animated epic Mahavatar Narsimha is flexing its box office stamina after 5 weeks, despite the arrival of new releases. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film had already crossed the magical milestone of 300 crores worldwide within 5 weeks, and kicked off the 6th weekend on a strong note. The first film in the epic Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, Mahavatar Narsimha, remained over one crore gross on its sixth Friday at the domestic box office. As per estimates, it has scored approximately 1.15 crores gross in all versions, pushing the total India gross to around 285 crores (239 crores net) in 36 days. Worldwide, it has crossed 310 crores gross collection. The game-changing blockbuster has defied the odds and emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters of recent times, and by far the biggest Indian animated blockbuster of all time. Animation is a niche genre in India, with hardly any films coming out. Mahavatar Narsimha, however, is expected to change the mindset of Indian filmmakers regarding the making of animated titles. It has already begun with Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, in which there will be a total of seven films by 2038. The next film in the MCU is Mahavtar Parashurama, which begins production next year and will be released in 2027. The lack of Indian animation titles can be understood with the fact that it was Hanuman, two decades ago in 2005, which was previously the biggest Indian animated title with around 12 crores gross. Though some of the Hollywood animated films have found box office success in India, with titles like The Lion King and Mufasa: The Lion King. Stay tuned...
