Will Smith Banned From Oscars Ceremony For 10 Years But Will Remain Eligible For Future Oscar Nominations And Wins

Los Angeles, April 9 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned actor Will Smith for 10 years from returning to the Oscars or attending any other Academy events. The decision has been taken 12 days after the first time Oscar winner slapped Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. ## However, despite the ban, Smith will retain the Oscar that he won in the Best Actor category for "King Richard", and will be eligible for future Oscar nominations and wins. ## The Academy's 54-person board of governors held a special meeting on Friday to determine what action to take against Smith. The actor was heavily criticized by Hollywood celebrities for his conduct during the ceremony and some even called for him to lose the Oscar statuette that he was awarded and/or his eligibility for future Oscars. ## Smith's suspension was expected even though he announced that he was resigning as a member of the organization a week ago. Los Angeles, March 29 - Hollywood star Will Smith was one of the highlights at the 94th Academy Awards, held on March 27-28. While he won his first Oscars ever for his portrayal of Richard Williams in "King Richard", the 53-year old actor faced criticism for his misconduct with comedian Chris Rock at the star-studded ceremony. ## Chris Rock, who was on the stage to present the Oscar for documentary feature, made a joke about Will's wife being in "G.I. Jane" because of her shaved head. However, the joke didn't go well with Will Smith as he took the stage and slapped the comedian which stunned everyone. Los Angeles, March 9 - The Academy continues to announce Oscars presenters to take the stage for the 94th Academy Awards. On Tuesday (March 8), Marvel's new sensational addition, Simu Liu along with Uma Thurman, Lily James, and Rami Malek are announced as presenters for the 2022 Oscars.## Ruth E. Carter, John Leguizamo, and last year's best actor winner, Anthony Hopkins, who notably wasn't present when he won the award at the end of last year's show, will also take the stage during the Academy Awards as announced by the show producers Will Packer and Shayla Cowan. ## The newly announced stars will join the previously announced Oscars presenters including Kevin Costner, Zoë Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Rosie Perez, Chris Rock, and last year's best-supporting actress winner, Yuh-Jung Youn. The producers will continue to announce other talent joining the show in the coming weeks. ## In a major relief for the Oscars performers and presenters, it was recently announced that they will not be required proof of COVID-19 vaccination, unlike nominees and guests who will have to show proof of vaccination as well as two negative PCR tests. Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer "The Power of the Dog" led the show with 12 nominations, including the Best Picture. ## This year, the Best Picture category includes 10 films - "The Power of the Dog", "CODA", "Belfast ", "Dune", "King Richard", "West Side Story", "Don't Look Up", "Drive My Car", "Licorice Pizza", and Nightmare Alley. Among these films, "Dune" is one of the highest-rated movies of 2021 while "Don't Look Up" is on the other side, though it has been hailed for its subject. ## It remains to see which film begs Oscars for the Best Picture, but analysts are predicting that it could be between "Dune", and "Power of The Dog", two of the top-rated movies. Despite being hailed critically and doing wonders at the box office, "No Way Home" was nominated only for the Best Visual Effects category. ## Jimmy Kimmel called out on Academy on Tuesday's late-night episode and argued that the biggest snub was the movie everyone is going to see, even Academy voters. He also said that "Don't Look Up" was not worthy to be picked for a Best Picture nomination. ## "The biggest snub today in my opinion, and I'm actually even angry about this, I'm kind of embarrassed to say, is the unforgivable omission of Spider-Man: No Way Home", he said. "You're telling me Don't Look Up was better than Spider-Man? It certainly was not", he argued. Kimmel wondered how "No Way Home" didn't get one of the ten nominations this year and called it a "great" movie. ## Among the other people who are not happy with "Spider-Man: No Way Home's" Best Picture snub is director Kevin Smith. No Way Home was considered a long shot in the best picture race, and Marvel/Sony even started a campaign for Oscars nod over its box office success.## "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is currently playing in theaters and has so far grossed over $1.77 billion globally, there was hope that the Academy would recognize it for helping reinvigorate theater-going.
