Rajamouli Reveals Bali Inspiration Behind Baahubali Battle Film Roars Again At Box Office

When S.S. Rajamouli says inspiration can strike anywhere, he means it literally. In a recent X post going viral among film buffs, the master storyteller revealed that the Karna and Ghatotkacha fight sequence in Baahubali was inspired by a grand sculpture he saw in Bali. The larger-than-life depiction of the mythological clash sparked a creative spark "” one that eventually shaped one of Indian cinema"™s most iconic war moments. And now, with Baahubali: The Epic back in cinemas in its remastered, single-cut format, audiences are once again witnessing how that vision translated into cinematic history. #SSRajamouli Said I Saw - KARNA AND GHATOTKACHA FIGHT - Statue in Bali then I decided its need be in My #BaahubaliTheEpic Film. pic.twitter.com/CVdgie778A— GetsCinema (@GetsCinema) November 4, 2025 This new edition condenses the two-part saga into one sweeping narrative while upgrading visuals and sound for today"™s big-screen standards. With enhanced clarity, deeper sound design and a tighter storytelling rhythm, the film feels less like a re-release and more like a celebration of the world Rajamouli built. From Mahishmati"™s soaring architecture to the raw emotional arc of Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali, the film still carries the same thunder "” only sleeker, sharper and grander. Even as a re-release, Baahubali: The Epic has surged back into theatres with remarkable force. The film has already garnered ₹26 crore net in India in its first four days, with a global weekend haul of ₹39.75 crore, proving the franchise still commands massive pull. The re-release has drawn strong turnout across metros, fuelled by loyal fans returning for the big-screen experience, families rediscovering the epic, and a fresh wave of younger audiences seeing Baahubali in theatres for the very first time. This perfect mix of nostalgia and new curiosity has given the film an impressive second life at the box office. Whether you"™re revisiting Mahishmati or experiencing it for the first time, Baahubali: The Epic proves once again that true cinematic universes don"™t age "” they evolve. And as Rajamouli"™s Bali anecdote reminds us "” epic stories come from observing epic stories carved by cultures long before us. The only difference? He turned inspiration into a phenomenon.

Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Becomes The Highest-Grossing Indian Re-Release Film

Hyderabad, November 3 - SS Rajamouli's action drama Baahubali: The Epic, the one-cut version of his epic Baahubali duology, has become the highest-grossing Indian re-release film of all time after it scored an excellent opening weekend globally. Starring Pan India superstar Prabhas in the title role, the movie grossed approximately 40 crores in its 3-day opening weekend at the worldwide box office, including around 29 crores domestically and 11 crores overseas. This makes it the biggest re-release Indian blockbuster. Baahubali: The Epic has beaten the lifetime re-release run of Harshvardhan Rane's Sanam Teri Kasam, which minted around 39 crores earlier this year. The entire collection of STK came from the domestic market, as it wasn't re-released internationally. Tumbbad is the third biggest grosser with around 37 crores. The 3-hour and 45-minute-long blockbuster is heading towards becoming the first Indian re-release title to gross 50 crores. As reported earlier, Baahubali: The Epic will need to gross over 100 crores domestically to make Baahubali: The Conclusion the biggest grosser in India, a title which the movie held for nearly 8 years before Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule claimed it earlier this year. Though the opening weekend collection of the film is excellent, it is unlikely to gross 100 crores domestically, which is a tough ask for a non-original movie. However, it needs to be seen how to fares during the weekdays as that will determine how far it can go at the box office. Stay tuned...

On its first day of re-release, it collected a jaw-dropping number "” approximately ₹10.65 Crore net (around ₹12.80 Crore gross) in India and roughly ₹19.50 Crore worldwide "” breaking all previous records for a re-released film in the country. Beyond India, Baahubali: The Epic is witnessing a rare global frenzy for a re-release. The film is rolling out on 150 IMAX screens worldwide "” including all 34 IMAX screens in India "” making it one of the widest premium-format re-releases ever. In North America, where Telugu cinema has seen explosive growth in recent years, the film has already secured strong distribution and premium bookings, with trade reports noting it became the first Telugu re-release to cross the ₹10 crore global pre-sales mark. Early overseas demand, particularly from the US and Canada markets, combined with nationwide premium-format bookings in India, pushed advance collections past ₹5 crore even before release, signalling event-level interest. With massive nostalgia, a unified director"™s cut vision from S.S. Rajamouli, and heightened international interest, the film isn"™t just re-entering theatres "” it is staging a full-scale global comeback, reaffirming why Baahubali continues to stand as India"™s most powerful cinematic phenomenon. With its massive legacy, pan-India reach, and a freshly crafted single-cut version of the two-part saga by S. S. Rajamouli "” starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty "” this re-release isn"™t just another entry; it"™s poised to rewrite the entire leaderboard and firmly claim the title of India"™s biggest re-release phenomenon.

Prabhas, SS Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Epic Becomes Biggest Telugu Re-Release Grosser: Scores Huge First Day Worldwide

Hyderabad, November 1 - Director SS Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Epic, a one-cut version combining his path-breaking Baahubali duology, has shattered records to become the biggest-ever Telugu re-release blockbuster. The epic action drama has enjoyed a full-fledged re-release "” not just across India but also in key international markets "” marking another milestone for the franchise. Starring Prabhas in the titular role, Baahubali: The Epic had its grand premiere on October 30, grossing approximately 5.25 crore worldwide. Notably, re-released Telugu films rarely have premiere shows, making this record-setting feat even more remarkable. What's more impressive is that the premiere earnings of the film alone surpassed the opening day collection of several major Telugu films released this year, which proves the undeniable legacy of Baahubali films. Following its historic premiere, the film recorded a massive opening day globally, with double-digit collections across India. As per early estimates, Baahubali: The Epic grossed around 12.50 crore on its opening day domestically (including 1.35 crore from premieres), while its overseas collections are around 6"“7 crore, taking its worldwide total to an extraordinary 19"“20 crore. A tale of destiny, betrayal, love, and power - once told in two grand chapters, now reborn as one monumental experience.🔥Relive the entire legend in #BaahubaliTheEpic - from Tomorrow#BaahubaliTheEpicOn31stOct pic.twitter.com/AZXFzLQxjZ— Baahubali (@BaahubaliMovie) October 30, 2025 With these figures, the film has become the highest-grossing Telugu re-release title and the second-highest-grossing South Indian re-release film of all time, behind only Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli, which grossed over 30 crores worldwide. The previous biggest Telugu re-release grosser was Mahesh Babu's Khaleja (11 crores). Let alone the re-release, the opening day collection of Baahubali: The Epic would even make the most of the original release envious. It is, however, worth noting that Telugu films normally don't have a proper re-release; instead, they are more like a celebratory re-release. But even with that, Baahubali is miles ahead of them. The 3-hour and 45-minute-long cut will most likely become the highest-grossing Indian re-release grosser by tomorrow or the next day, beating Sanam Teri Kasam, which grossed around 40 crores earlier this year. Baahubali: The Epic, however, will be eying much more as a genuine interest, for it can be seen among the audience even after 10 years. Stay tuned...

Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Storms To 5+ Crore Premiere Gross Worldwide

Hyderabad, October 31 - Director SS Rajamouli's epic one-cut re-release of his path-breaking blockbuster Baahubali duology - Baahubali: The Epic has started with a bang at the worldwide box office after record-breaking premiere gross. Starring Prabhas in the title role, the 3-hour and 45-minute-long blockbuster had a limited premiere in India on October 30 and a full-fledged premiere in North America. The film grossed approximately 1.25-1.50 crores in its domestic premiere. In North America, the film is looking to gross around 3.75 crores, making it 5-5.25+ crores gross worldwide premiere. The Indian re-release titles historically don't have a premiere, so it is a new record for Baahubali: The Epic, and is likely to remain so. Also read - Can Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Make Baahubali 2 To Reclaim Indian Box Office Crown? The combined version of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion is likely to become the biggest Telugu re-release grosser after the first day itself (including premiere). If the momentum persists, it could become the biggest Indian re-release blockbuster in the first weekend itself, which needs to be seen. Currently, Harshvardhan Rane's romantic drama, Sanam Teri Kasam, is the top Indian grosser in its repeat run. The film stunned everyone earlier this year and went on to gross around 40 crores in its re-release run, followed by Tumbbad, which minted an excellent 37.50 crores gross. Stay tuned...

Can Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Make Baahubali 2 To Reclaim Indian Box Office Crown?

Hyderabad, October 30 - Maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli and Pan India superstar Prabhas' action drama Baahubali: The Conclusion ruled the Indian box office for nearly eight years as the country's highest-grossing film, before that reign came to an end when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule took over the top position following its phenomenal success in December last year. There is currently a difference of around 50 crores between the two films in favour of Pushpa 2. But the tables may yet turn with the upcoming re-release of the Baahubali duology, now presented as Baahubali: The Epic. This special cut will bring together both films "” Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion "” into a single, nearly 3-hour-45-minute cinematic experience. The advance booking of Baahubali: The Epic is robust, better than all the films which have been re-released at the Indian box office so far. To earn over 50 crores gross for the film shouldn't be a big ask, but it has to double it up to make Baahubali 2 reclaim its top spot. Baahubali: The Epic poses a unique case for box office accounting, as it includes both parts in one continuous feature, so the total earnings of its can't be attributed to just Baahubali 2. Since this is a one-of-a-kind case, what can be done is to split the collection of Baahubali: The Epic in half and add to both parts. If done so, the re-release will need to gross over 100 crores at the Indian box office to bridge the 50+ crores gap between Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2. For the record, no film has ever grossed more than 50 crores in its re-release run at the Indian box office, so it needs to be seen how Baahubali: The Epic fares, even though it is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time. Whether it can also help Baahubali 2 reclaim its long-held crown remains to be seen, but one thing is certain "” this epic is about to make history again. Stay tuned...

Baahubali: The Epic Tops 10 Crore Advance Booking Worldwide; Sets Up Big Release In Overseas Markets

Hyderabad, October 29 - Director SS Rajamouli's action drama Baahubali: The Epic, which is a nearly 4-hour one cut version of his Baahubali duology, is roaring in the advance booking ahead of its 31st October release. The bookings are better than many of the mid-budget films, let alone the re-release title. Starring Prabhas in the title role alongside Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj and Tamannah Bhatia, the film has topped 10 crores advance booking gross collection for the opening day, including premieres. In India, the bookings have crossed 5 crores, while overseas pre-sales are nearing the 5 crore mark, driven by North America. The pre-sales of Baahubali - The Epic are already higher than the lifetime collection of Indian re-release titles. It is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time, and will probably become the first film to cross the 100 crore mark. Meanwhile, the makers have locked a wide release of the film in international markets. In the USA, the film will be released in over 400 theatres, followed by 210 in the UK & Ireland, over 150 in the UAE & GCC, 144 in Australia and New Zealand, and over 100 theatres in Southeast Asia. Overall, the movie will be released in over 1150 theatres across overseas markets, which is easily the biggest for an Indian re-release movie. Produced by Arka Media Works, Baahubali: The Epic has been censored with U/A with an approved theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 45 minutes. The first half, which contains scenes from Baahubali: The Beginning, is nearly 1 hour and 42 minutes, while the second half (Baahubali: The Conclusion) is about 2 hours and 3 minutes. Stay tuned...

Baahubali The Epic Advance bookings legacy and everything around the re-release

A decade after rewriting Indian cinema"™s boundaries S. S. Rajamouli"™s Baahubali returns to theatres as Baahubali: The Epic "” a single, re-edited, remastered presentation of the duology that made Indian cinema gasp and global audiences sit up. The re-cut compresses the sprawling saga of Mahishmati into a tight cinematic experience while preserving the grand battles, sweeping visuals and the emotional core that transformed the franchise into a cultural milestone. The film follows the two-generation arc "” the rise of the legendary Amarendra/Baahubali, the betrayal that shatters a kingdom, and the son who avenges and redeems his mother and people. Baahubali: The Epic is more than a re-run: it"™s a curated anniversary presentation Rajamouli has personally supervised the re-edit, sharpening visuals, enhancing sound, and pacing the story for a tighter cinematic flow. With high-end digital restoration and 4K remastering, Baahubali: The Epic promises an even grander viewing experience, especially for those who missed it in theatres during its original run. The ensemble remains the film"™s spine: Prabhas in the lead(s), Rana Daggubati as Bhallaladeva, Anushka Shetty as Devasena, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishna, Sathyaraj, Nassar and others populate the royal and rebel courts. The film is directed by S. S. Rajamouli, produced by Arka Media Works (Shobu Yarlagadda & Prasad Devineni), with music by M. M. Keeravani and cinematography by K. K. Senthil Kumar. Visual-effects supervision, episodic worldbuilding and a host of VFX houses were central to the film"™s look. Baahubali"™s scale was engineered over long preproduction and heavy practical-set work. Production designer Sabu Cyril (and the art & concept team) built vast palace sets and engineered elaborate war-stage pieces; previsualization and large-scale battle staging were significant line items. The film"™s extensive preproduction spanned several months, with massive battle sequences requiring meticulous planning and costing lakhs per day to stage. "” Indian Express noted that certain war sequences cost about ₹1 crore every four days, and millions were invested in previsualization to get the action right. While The official teasers and trailers for the re-release leaned into nostalgia: restored battle imagery, refocused story beats, and a promise of "œone uninterrupted epic the advance booking response has been nothing short of phenomenal. According to trade sources, Baahubali: The Epic has grossed over ₹5 crore in advance bookings worldwide, with nearly ₹2.5 crore coming from India and another ₹2.5 crore from overseas markets. In the U.S. alone, pre-sales touched nearly ₹1.8 crore, reaffirming the franchise"™s global pull even years after its original release. The first installment, Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), was made on a grand budget of ₹180 crore and went on to collect over ₹650 crore worldwide, setting a new benchmark for Telugu cinema. Its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), mounted on an even larger scale with a ₹250 crore budget, became a cultural phenomenon "” earning around ₹1,788.06 crore globally and holding the title of one of India"™s biggest hits ever.Together, the two parts "” made with a combined production cost of nearly ₹430 crore "” created an unparalleled cinematic universe that continues to inspire filmmakers and captivate audiences worldwide. Baahubali: The Epic arrives as both celebration and commercial event: a remastered single-film presentation that has already registered substantial advance interest.Social media is buzzing with throwback posts, fan edits, and emotional reactions. Many call it "œthe return of Indian cinema"™s pride," while others simply say, "œBaahubali is not just a movie "” it"™s emotion revisited."Whether you come for the battles, the drama, or the shared fandom, the re-release promises a theatrical experience geared to big screens and big emotions.
